Inspired by the various barbecues of the southern United States, several establishments have opened their doors to offer high-quality meats smoked on-site and marinated with secret house sauces.
The meat is served shredded, minced, and occasionally sliced. It is cooked over a wood fire and/or charcoal and offered with a vinegar-based sauce for dipping.
Favorite cuts of meat on sharing platters include beef brisket, homemade sausages, ribs, smoked chicken, and/or pulled pork. The many side dishes that make all the difference are not to be overlooked, such as mac and cheese, cornbread, coleslaw, poutine, grilled corn on the cob, and smoked beans.
We strongly suggest that you go on an empty stomach in the company of hungry people, because these are generous dishes to share.

If you are looking for the most authentic wood-fired BBQ, head to Lattuca BBQ in Old Montreal. The owner, John, has won numerous awards worldwide for his expertise in cooking and preparing meats. Little tip: you must try their brisket.

The preparation technique is American, but the meat is entirely Canadian. The atmosphere is festive and encourages sharing platters for several people. As a side dish, don't miss the excellent mac and cheese and the moonshine poutine.

What started out as a street truck quickly turned into a restaurant in Laval to meet the high demand. The smokehouse is American with a Colombian and Peruvian touch in the kitchen. The service is caring in a relaxed atmosphere.

In addition to the huge choice of cocktails (more than 120), you can taste (devour) meats cooked in the smokehouse. There is a good atmosphere all the time, especially in summer with their magnificent terrace. The decor reminds us of a Texas saloon, as seen in country movies. Our team's favorite is their magnificent ribs.

Located on the West Island in DDO, Smokebox is sure to envelop you from the moment you walk in the door. The brisket, mac and cheese, and chicken are among the favorites. The space is small, but it's cozy with an open kitchen that allows you to see all the magic in the making. Take advantage of the patio in the summer to eat outside.

If there is a must in Lasalle, it is Au Cochon Fou. The southern-style smokehouse was created in collaboration with the famous Brasserie Des Rapides. You can eat alone or share a tray containing all their smoked specialties, however, the portions are very generous. Will you dare to try their homemade smokin' jalapeno sauce?

A definite favorite in Verdun is the Blackstrap BBQ. Just like in American barbecues, everything is prepared on-site every day while supplies last. The meats used are of high quality from Quebec and Canada. Everything is absolutely delicious, even the mushrooms are a real hit!

It's not for nothing that Le Boucan has appeared on several television shows, their ribs, pulled pork, and poutine are simply sublime. Beyond that, it is a warm, friendly, and family place. If you don't eat meat, rest assured, that their menu has some great options for you. Why not complement your meal with a nice glass of bourbon ?!
51, rue Roy E, Montréal, H2W 2S3
Chef-owner Nick Hodge impressed the judges on Iron Chef during his visit. Believe us, a visit will convince you as well. The place is small, but warm with wooden walls and super friendly staff. In addition to the smoked products, they will bring you (literally) a pot of fried chicken to the table. Visit on an empty stomach, the portions are generous.

It's in Laval West and Sainte-Rose that you can go and taste what many will say is the best American BBQ in the region. Don't be surprised to see their street truck at festivals in the summer. The meat is smoked daily and marinated in their secret sauce. The atmosphere is festive with many drink specials. Otherwise, they are known for their Texas onion blossom appetizer, a must-try!
