About Us
Carefully thought-out by friends and partners Fred Beaver and Dave Szamosi, the realization of Moonshine BBQ Smokehouse has been perfected through years of love for BBQ. Moonshine pays services to that love through a carefully crafted union between deep-south and French Canadian flavours.
We love our meat… by carefully selecting “AAA” beef and responsibly raised pork and chicken from local farms, we’ve been able to capture the perfect marriage of flavour and quality. Slow cooking for up to 16 hours, on a mixture of maple, cherry and hickory, being rubbed with our signature spice blend, has a mouth watering outcome that will leave your taste buds in awe!

If you live in NDG this is the BBQ place you should be going to, food is amazing, everything from the brisket to the wings are huge portions, incredibly filling & just damn good real BBQ. The fried pickles are also addictive, easily eat 1000 of them. You're doing yourself a disservice by not coming here.View more
I've been coming here often enough, I think it's time for a review. It's by far my favourite BBQ place in Montreal. It's a great South Carolina-style BBQ restaurant with huge servings for a good price. I always get the brisket, either in a sub, by itself or their burns ends. It never disappoints, the flavours are so good. We did try the Champion plate the first time we went & every cut of meat offered was delicious. Also a big fan of their mac & cheese, the noodles are never soggy, they still have a bite to them & the sauce is extra cheesy. Even though I am usually stuffed by the end of the meal, I have to have the skillet cookie. It's to die for. Definitely not a place that you will leave still hungry!View more

I have heard lots of good things about the food at Moonshine so I finally ordered for delivery thru my son. We ordered the brisket sandwiches. The fries were good & the Mac n Cheese was tasty but it was the brisket I was very disappointed in. The sandwich was smaller than I expected, the ciabatta bun was very dry & the brisket was dry as well, I expected it to have a bit more sauce to it but it looked like it was a bit over cooked. I just wanted to share an experience we had this evening. Melissa was an amazing waitress, she was kind & helpful in choosing our meals. She was just a fantastic human throughout our evening. On top of an excellent service, my fiancé forgot her purse at the restaurant & Melissa reached out to us within a couple of minutes of leaving the restaurant to inform us that she forgot her belongings. As far as BBQ places go, there are better options in Montreal/Laval. While the service was excellent & the look/branding of the place is on point, the food could be better. The mac & cheese was the best thing we had; it had a nice smokey flavor. However it could have used some sort of topping for textural contrast. The brisket.& chicken that we had were bland. The chicken may have been slightly overcooked. The french fries were also bland. The corn bread tasted more like a cupcake; quite sweet & not corn-y enough for us. The sauce was interesting in a good way; pepper-y without being spicy. I suppose if you like the sauce you can use it to flavour the other items but that wasn't enough for us.View more

Went for dinner with my wife after we finished work. At around 4:30 the restaurant's dinner service is still fairly quiet, so we enjoyed a nice meal of brisket & ribs. For the price, portion size was generous & satisfying. Service was very friendly & her drink recommendations were great. Will come back.View more
Walked in with reservations last winter on a Saturday night. Place was empty. 3 girls behind the counter all looking at their phones & had no intention in greeting us. We had to go to them. One finally decide she would show us to a table. After seating us she was no where to be found for about 20 mins. Finally came back & ask if we'd like to order. I asked if we could order a drink first. She tool our order then came back 15 mins later with our drinks. Another 15 mins goes by she took our food order. We then waited about a half hour for the cold food to be put on our table. Oh ya the place was practically empty. The baked beans were hard as rocks. I guess the chef doesn't taste his good before serving it. The waitress never came back to check to see if we wanted other drinks or even to ask if everything was OK. Didn't I mention the place had maybe 6 other patrons? This one of the worst experiences I've had in a restaurant. Will never return. Hope by now they properly trained the wait staff.
