Yokato Yokabai is a premier destination for authentic Hakata-style tonkotsu ramen. Known for its rich, creamy pork bone broth simmered for hours and prepared entirely without MSG, this cozy eatery offers a true taste of Japan. With house-made noodles, highly customizable bowls, and savory sides like their famous karaage, it delivers an uncompromising and traditional ramen experience.
Patrons describe Yokato Yokabai Ramen as a cozy, authentic spot where rich tonkotsu or torikotsu broths meet chewy noodles and generous toppings, with karaage, gyoza and takoyaki seen as standouts. The atmosphere is repeatedly praised for its warm Japanese vibe, though seating is tight and the space can feel cold or noisy when crowded. Service is often friendly and attentive, but pacing and consistency vary with long waits during peak times and some missteps. A virtual waitlist helps manage crowds since reservations are not common. Many call the ramen among the best in Montreal or close to Japan, though a few note price, portion size, or occasional service gaps. The Michelin link is debated, but the overall experience is described as a top ramen destination worth visiting for a comforting, authentic bowl. The main caveats are crowding, temperature hotspots near doors, and premium pricing at peak times.

We had pork & sesame broth thick noodles Ramen. Chicken & pork. Sesame broth was too heavy for me. The soup was colder than expected. Spicy chicken entree was good. Rice with pork entree was tasty. The place was packed on Sunday at 2. We waited for 20 minutes for a table. 4 stars overall.

Saturday 10 jan 13h. I don't believe this place should be a Michelin Recommended restaurant. There was no service at the entrance except a small ipad where you need to put your name & number to be on the waiting list. The guy that worked there ignored us & pass by us a few times but it was so clear that we were waiting to talk to someone. He simply pointed to the ipad & left. We finally got a SMS & went back where the same guy with the cap just never event looked at us so we needed to stop him & tell him we got an SMS. Cold & without any welcoming effort he sat us at the bar & left.
Next the girl behind the bar never welcomed us & passed in front of us without looking. Water came 5 min after & asked us if we were ready to order. No welcome, not a smile, cold & without care. We asked for sake & she didn't know much. So I asked for the sake menu & she gave it to me but warned us that there was nothing in stock exacept 2 or 3 little bottles of 300ml. Appetizer were below average. Karage Spicy was not spicy & WAY to much batter & the takoyaki was a puree of mush with seemed with no octupus.
Ramen took forever to come but once it arrived they were good but I had better in other restaurants.
Extra : I was in front of the beer tap & the glasses were not clean. I saw a waiter look at the glasses & noticed there were not clean but he served beer in them anyway.
That why I don't believe this place should be a Michelin Recommended Restaurant. You should feel welcomed in a restaurant & today it felt like we where a number & couldn't wait for the customers to leave so they could serve the next ones.
We waited about 45 minutes & their system said 0-15 minute wait time. It was well worth the wait as it had to have been the best bowl of ramen I've had in Montreal.
Excellent repas. Les nouilles étaient délicieuses & le poulet frit vraiment bon.
Petit bémol: attendez vous à attendre un bon moment avant d'avoir une table.
