Reviews for Yen Cuisine Japonaise

japanese(42) fresh(39) sushi(37) recommend(27) quality(27) bowl(23) rice(17) sashimi(16) foie gras(15)I recently dined at Yen, & while my experience had its highlights, there were a few aspects that fell short of expectations. First & foremost, the food was fantastic. Each dish was meticulously prepared & bursting with flavor. From the fresh sushi to the sashimi, every bite was a testament to the chef's skill & dedication. The quality of the food alone would make me consider returning. The service was also commendable. The staff were attentive & courteous, going out of their way to help me figure out how to pay the parking fees-a gesture I greatly appreciated. Their willingness to assist with such a mundane task speaks volumes about their commitment to customer satisfaction. However, the environment left something to be desired. The noise level was quite high, largely due to the chatter from other patrons. This bustling atmosphere starkly contrasts with the serene & tranquil vibe typically associated with traditional Japanese restaurants. If you're looking for a quiet, intimate dining experience, this might not be the place for you. Another drawback was the behavior of one of the waiters. They seemed overly eager to clear the bill for the next table, which came across as somewhat pushy & detracted from the otherwise pleasant service. It wasn't a major issue, but it did leave a bit of a sour note on the overall experience. In summary, while Yen excels in food quality & generally good service, the noisy environment & the occasional pushiness of the staff might be off-putting for some. If you don't mind a lively atmosphere & are there primarily for the excellent food, it's still worth a visit.View more
The first place I recommend to everyone visiting or hungry in Montreal! Amazing staff, warm ambience & delicious food! Such good prices for incredible high-quality & generous dishes!View more
yen has been my favourite restaurant for so long for their quality. but this last visit left me kind of disappointed... my partner & i both love their foie gras & uni dons & have been ordering the same things for so long. i feel like this time, the uni portion was not represented accurately in the picture, nor was the foie gras. & the biggest let down was that the rice seemed very old & hard... almost microwaved day old rice? on a more positive note, we did enjoy the tako wasabi we ordered to share as well as the service!View more
Update: never coming back. This place went south. Seems like new management who doesn't care about the business. I got a stomach ache right after eating the tuna. Food USED to be so fresh & delicious. Proportion USED to be just right. So not only did they downsize, they're also giving you low quality food. Better take your money somewhere else. I went in April 2025 & noticed some difference. Came back in June, & it's just even worse. Old review: Went with friends & the food was fantasic 😍 We had the gyudon, niji chirashi, kaisen cappacio, salmon soba, foie gras salad, & some rolls but I forgot the name lol. Overall good!View more
Je reviendraiView more
Ça suffit aux besoins de clients locaux, faisant la cuisine japonaise typique. Goutez-y!View more
We had a family dinner & we were very happy with the foods & the service.View more
One thing is certain, in this restaurant you get a good quality-price. The bowls are still generous too in portions but if you eat a lot you may need an appetizer. I wouldn't say it's the best sushi I ate. The rice lacked flavor, the fishes are all the cheapest cuts, etc. However, for the price I paid, this is very good. In Montreal, I'm happy about this find. I really enjoyed the ambiance too & the service was good. Overall, a good ratio for quality & price. With slightly more generous portions.View more
The place is very nice, with a calm atmosphere. The food was fresh & tasty & they have a lot of options.View more
Ordered pick up, a party platter. Specifically asked for soy sauce at the counter. Got home & NO SOY SAUCE! Needless to say that oversight ruined our dinner experience. Who can enjoy sushi with no soy sauce? From the reviews & my own experience this is a place that has issues with take away orders.View more
Cuisine excellente mais service un peu lent, durée maximum d'une heure trente dans le restaurantView more
Best Sashimi Bowl in Montreal! The Nori Barachirashi was absolutely delicious, with incredibly fresh fish. I also had the Salmon Sashimi which was amazing, with zero fishy aftertaste! The service is excellent & the atmosphere is very warm & cozy. Highly recommended!View more
Great food, good & fast service, great atmosphere.View more
Been here a few times & the quality of food is always on point. Lots of variety on the menu tooView more
Food was decent & was full but that was because there was a lot of rice on the dons but limited fish or protein. For the gyudon there was only 5 piece of small beef.View more
