About

Yama Restaurant presents a fusion concept blending Japanese techniques with robust Peruvian ingredients. The kitchen emphasizes raw fish preparations, vibrant citrus-based sauces, and high-quality protein components common in Nikkei culinary traditions. Guests observe a focus on creative flavor combinations that bridge the divide between oceanic freshness and Andean earthiness. The interior environment prioritizes a functional arrangement suitable for focused exploration of these specific multicultural flavor profiles. Dishes emphasize precision in slicing and a reliance on complex, acidified marinades that define this unique cross-continental style. The menu functions as a technical display of balance where sharp ginger and spicy peppers interact with delicate sashimi. Every component serves to highlight the intrinsic textures of the selected ingredients without unnecessary distraction or traditional ornamentation.

Review Summary

Yama receives widespread praise for its sophisticated ambiance, excellent sushi, and creative cocktails, making it a popular destination for both business meetings and social gatherings in downtown Montreal. Many guests highlight the exceptional hospitality and attentive service, frequently commending staff members for their professionalism and ability to curate a memorable dining experience. While the majority of reviews celebrate the high quality and beautiful presentation of the dishes, particularly the fresh nigiri and wagyu options, some patrons feel the pricing is high relative to portion sizes and occasionally encounter inconsistent service during peak hours. Overall, the restaurant is consistently viewed as a refined, warm, and reliable spot for a high-end meal or a relaxing drink.

We recently tried Yama restaurant & were absolutely blown away! Our server Talia was incredibly attentive & friendly but the food was the star of the show. Everything was so delicious & visually the presentation was like art! We capped it all off with a Matcha Mousse & this is hands down THE best dessert we've ever tried. We highly recommend eating at Yama & can't wait to go back!

YAMA is a Japenese restaurant located in Vogue Hotel. This was a convenient & easy option for us since we stayed at Vogue. We dined at YAMA our first evening & were pleasantly surprised. The menu had many vegetarian options for us, which we appreciated. Even for a Sunday evening, the bar & restaurant were steadily busy.
We ordered:
Starters: edamame & vegetable gyoza. The edamame was classic. The vegetable gyoza were cooked crispy & was served in a shallow bowl with a coriander infused citrus sauce. It was tasty, & balanced well.
Small plate/side: midori no ha maki roll is a vegetarian roll with fresh veggies, wrapped in lettuce as opposed to traditional seaweed. It was a simple roll with a burst of freshness. We ordered the truffle fries because our server said they were amazing. They did not disappoint.
Entree: we ordered the roasted eggplant for our entree. We did not know what to expect, but were pleasantly surprised. The eggplant is cooked so well that it melts in your mouth. It was topped various wild mushrooms cooked differently (i.e. some crispy). It was a mild dish packed with a lot of flavor.
Dessert: For dessert we ordered the chocolate praline mousse. This was insane. Imagine a hard chocolate shell bomb with a mousse filling. The exterior was a chocolate & hazelnut shell. This dessert satisfies all cravings: chocolate, crunchy, & crispy.
We were very pleased with the vegetarian options at YAMA.

The only downside is the price. You are paying hotel prices to dine here, but that should be expected.

We went here twice, as I had a spend credit through the Hilton Honors program on my Amex Platinum card. Good: we had the Omakase sushi & the lemon dessert. Both were absolutely fantastic. The fish was fresh & melt in your mouth. The lemon dessert thing was recommended from the waitress who was very sweet & gave great service. Bad: this is very expensive, I wouldn't spend money here unless I had free spend through my credit card. The breakfast was about as good as a shopping mall cafeteria. The berries on the side of my eggs Benedict had white mold growing on them.

Good food, friendly service, a little slow but that's what it takes to prepare quality dishes fresh. The dessert is especially memorable, maybe worth a separate trip just to try their dessert menu.
