About

Yama Restaurant presents a fusion concept blending Japanese techniques with robust Peruvian ingredients. The kitchen emphasizes raw fish preparations, vibrant citrus-based sauces, and high-quality protein components common in Nikkei culinary traditions. Guests observe a focus on creative flavor combinations that bridge the divide between oceanic freshness and Andean earthiness. The interior environment prioritizes a functional arrangement suitable for focused exploration of these specific multicultural flavor profiles. Dishes emphasize precision in slicing and a reliance on complex, acidified marinades that define this unique cross-continental style. The menu functions as a technical display of balance where sharp ginger and spicy peppers interact with delicate sashimi. Every component serves to highlight the intrinsic textures of the selected ingredients without unnecessary distraction or traditional ornamentation.

Review Summary

Yama Restaurant is frequently praised for its vibrant atmosphere, sophisticated interior, and high quality Japanese cuisine, particularly the sushi and diverse vegetarian options. Many guests highlight the exceptional hospitality and attentive service provided by specific staff members, often noting that these interactions make the dining experience memorable and welcoming. While the establishment is widely considered a top destination in downtown Montreal for business meetings and celebrations, some visitors report inconsistencies regarding service attentiveness, management presence, and a perceived lack of value given the higher price points. Overall, it remains a popular spot for those seeking an elegant environment, though individual experiences with service speed and management interactions can vary significantly.

Do not come here. You will get better service at a food court & better quality of food. Came in eve of Christmas eve, the restaurant did not seem busy. However, it was impossible to find seating. I waited over 30 minutes just to be acknowledged & was eventually seated at the bar.

The food quality was unacceptable. The fish dish was extremely salty & stringy. The foams on the plate were dried out. Even worse, breakfast ordered through the hotel came with berries that had visible white mold next to my eggs Benedict. This is a serious food safety issue.

Very disappointing experience. Would not return.

The food & vibe is great- the staff is incredibly unhelpful & seem to require further hospitality training. I was staying at the hotel & had three issues. First, I ordered breakfast & my order was never put in- I waited over 45 minutes before I was told this. I was offered a croissant for my trouble & never got my food. Second, we were asked to leave due to reservations despite staying at the hotel- there were plenty of open spots around us & we were there for 30 minutes having one drink. The third, I broke my ankle outside & was trying to get to the hospital. I had been putting in to go orders all week & when I tried to put in a to go order on the way to the hospital I was told that they don't offer to go orders- only eating in restaurant or room service. I explained I had been doing pick up all week & that I broke my ankle. The gentleman who answered my phone call told me there was no way I was doing pick up all week (I have receipts showing I did) but agreed they could'figure something out'. My husband went to pick up my order, & they said it was never put in for the second time, but we could get room service. I waited over an hour for two cold & stale bagels & was charged a room service fee still. It was over $75 for two bagels. We absolutely love staying at the Vogue but this restaurant makes us think twice about coming back. If you're coming just for dinner I'm sure it's fine, but if you're relying on Yama as an option during a hotel stay, I cannot recommend any less. I've never experienced such poor service.

The breakfast is 5/5. Tried everything on the menu. Love how it is also dog friendly on patio.

We ate here twice. Both times for breakfast as it was attached to the hotel we stayed for a long weekend.

The food is good. I ordered the bagel & yogurt bowl on separate days. They weren't bad. My 8 year old daughter wasn't a fan of the oatmeal. She normally loves oatmeal, but didn't like this one because it was sweet. She's used to oatmeal without added flavours.

As someone who is allergic to eggs, their breakfast options mostly all contained eggs. Fortunately, they had side items to add to the non-egg options on the menu.

The prices are a bit on the high side for what you get. However, I'm guessing that's a way to eat at the credit you get if you are Hilton Honors Gold or Diamond.

The service was good, though. No complaints.

We went here twice, as I had a spend credit through the Hilton Honors program on my Amex Platinum card. Good: we had the Omakase sushi & the lemon dessert. Both were absolutely fantastic. The fish was fresh & melt in your mouth. The lemon dessert thing was recommended from the waitress who was very sweet & gave great service. Bad: this is very expensive, I wouldn't spend money here unless I had free spend through my credit card. The breakfast was about as good as a shopping mall cafeteria. The berries on the side of my eggs Benedict had white mold growing on them.

The eggs benedict (with salmon) was delicious & couldn't resist ordering more the succeeding mornings. However, their big breakfast was mediocre as the sausage wasn't the best. I would've given the food 5 stars if they also gave more fruits, as their portions were embarrassingly small with a slice of kiwi, a few raisins cut in half & half a strawberry. The service is top notch & deserves praise.
