Unfortunately, we had a very disappointing experience.
We clearly ordered four bone-in rib steaks, but only three were brought, & the fourth steak was incorrect. We immediately informed the server, & although they agreed to change it, the replacement took so long that I couldn't eat dinner with my family.
What made the experience worse was at checkout: I wanted to leave a $20 tip, but the server insisted that taxes had to be included & automatically applied a 15% tip, which felt unfair-especially considering the mistake & the long wait.
For a restaurant of this reputation & price level, the service was far below expectations. Very disappointing.
Update:
Following the owner's response, I contacted the restaurant by email as requested to seek a fair resolution. Unfortunately, I have not received any response so far.
Food was pretty good, albeit, not better than The Keg. Service was passable. Waiters weren't very friendly, but weren't flat-out rude. The atmosphere is a strange mix of elegant with tacky elements mixed in - like paintings of cows on the walls? Prices were in line with any other steakhouse. Overall, it was a decent experience, but there's no reason to go here over somewhere like The Keg.
This Steak house is in a beautiful location & the ambiance & decor of the restaurant was beautiful. The price point was very fair. However the location where we were seated on the 2nd floor next to the waiters prep station would really benefit from a wall & not just a metal curtain. The clang of the cups & chatter of the staff take away from the dining experience. The food was good However there were a few items that were warm not hot. But the staff replaced the food without a question. All & all it was a 4 star experience.
The restaurant is located at the heart of the old port. That justifies the high number of reviews.
For appetizer, we ordered escargot which was excellent (not as good as Modavie, but still it was great).
The entree was'okayish to good' in my opinion. We had bone-in ribeye steak which was not well-cooked (restaurants like Joey provide a much higher quality for the same price).
& finally we ordered crème brûlée for dessert which was too sweet (for example, compared to the Modavie's, the quality of crème brûlée was way lower here…).
The service was nice & professional, but it didn't really felt personal. I had higher expectations from this place.
The atmosphere was beautiful, but I wish the tables were not super close to each other. It felt a bit uncomfortable that we could hear all the conversations happening in our adjacent tables (& probably vice versa).
The only redeeming quality was our server who was extremely apologetic. Food was super delayed, steaks we're undercooked & when it was offered to retire a new steak, the old dried out steaks returned.
Super disappointed with the experience especially considering the star rating & price point.
I took the family to Montreal & wanted to try a local restaurant instead of a chain restaurant, such as Keg (beside it). Maybe it's just me, but I found the service subpar compared to other parts of Canada. Our busboy (Alex) was more helpful than our actual waiter. We had the crème brulee & cheesecake for dessert; I would have saved them for somewhere else. The steak is decent for the price.
The food was good but nothing spectacular. The price is fair for the quality & portion size. Service was fast & efficient.
Absolutely one of the best steaks I've had in while! The price is slightly pricey but very worth it in my opinion. We started with the Popcorn shrimps, & got the Porterhouse T-bone to share between 4, along with sides of Mac&Cheese & Shrimps. Everything was so so delicious!! Totally recommend.
The food was not good for the price, the steak was tiny, & the waiter put his own tip (25%!!!) without consulting us.
This was our first trip to Montreal, & Vieux-Port Steakhouse was our first stop! The service was excellent. Our waiter, Monosh was so kind & accommodating, & the food was fantastic! If you're looking for a delicious steakhouse, reasonably priced with super kind & efficient staff, this place is for you!
My partner ordered a well-done steak, which was prepared correctly. However, my medium steak arrived well-done. They did offer to remake mine. Interestingly, while my partner's steak was appropriately served without sauce as ordered, they brought me some extra sauce as an apology for the delay with my meal, which I didn't request. This felt a bit odd since we were both affected by the initial mistake with my order, leading to us eating separately & impacting our dining experience together. For a restaurant with high prices & ratings, this error & the somewhat uneven attempt at recovery were disappointing.
Our waiter jimmy was soooo sweet & had a very friendly & approachable personality! The small talk he made was personable & he made us feel welcomed in the restaurant. Asked us about our day, where we are from & what we like to do. I would definitely come back here service is impeccable. Food came with good speed & tasted pretty good too. Lastly the sizes of the meals from apps, to mains, to desserts are more than perfect for the price. Better than most restaurants P.S I love the mango mojito!!!! Thank you for having us, this place is a must on your dining list.
We got food poisoning from there.
Very concerning especially we the price we paid for our meal.
We have been here twice now & even without a reservation each time they were able to squeeze us in. The food is pretty good & moderately priced for a downtown establishment.
Not the greatest restaurant experience we've had. The staff were friendly enough but there were only a few other customers seated in our section & it took over 10 minutes for our server to take our drink order, which was fine as we weren't in a rush & we're planning on spending some time here enjoying the evening. Once the drinks came out a few minutes later, the server took our food order, came back about 5 minutes later with some bread, & then immediately with our food. I have no idea how they were able to make two steaks in 5 minutes but I didn't even have time to butter my bread before I had my steak in front of me. We each ordered a NY striploin, one medium rare & the other medium rare Chicago (charred). Both came out rare & looked exactly the same (definitely not charred). The food was okay, definitely not worth the prices they charge though. Finished with carrot cake which was bland with no spice & tasted like it came from a cheap grocery store, & a creme brulee which was chunky & had obviously scrambled. The espresso we ordered after was the best part of the meal for me.nice atmosphere with a fireplace & fairly cozy. The cocktails were very good.
Great place to go with your wife or friends. A must visit when in Montreal. We always attend at least once when in Montreal. It's pricey but well worth the money. I have never had a bad meal here. I have been going to this location for over 15 years & love it!!!!!
Service was really warm & nice & the prices aren't bad at all but the food is quite poor. Crab cake was frozen in the middle, the bread is low quality, steaks were overcooked, lobster was rubber, fries weren't made in house or served hot. I'm sure some people like this traditional (outdated) steakhouse but I won't be returning. No problem & all the best to them!
