Creative dishes… but as creative stuff usually goes, the client/consummer might not get it, or not all of it. The sushis were great overall, the tuna tartare was too sweet for my palate & the VIP appetizer was interesting.View more

The food here is just ok I feel but Ive always been very satisfied with the service & even though the food is just ok i must say i keep going back for the sushi pizza which actually looks nothing like a pizza 😂 it looks like a butterfly on some days & tear drops on another day. I do recommend trying it though it is sooooo tasty.View more

Bone-in Rib eye & Rip cap steaks were amazing. Sides were equally great. Sushi was fresh too. Staff was amazing & very attentive. Great vibe with chill & upscal decor. Would definitely come here again. They were also able to accommodate our well behaved toddler!View more

This is my second time visiting here. The first time, we had a less than stellar experience as one of our party's streak was first under cooked, then over cooked. While they did take it off the bill, it was disappointing. This visit, however, they knocked it out of the park! All of our steaks were perfectly cooked. The sides were absolutely delicious. The wine selection was huge. Our server was extremely attentive but not intrusive. One of our party ordered the sushi platter & it looked incredible. He said that it was delicious as well.View more

Had a nice meal, steak was tasty & sushi was well prepared. Our server, Pascal, was awesome! Very friendly, great recommendations, & just a really cool guy. The restaurant is undergoing renovations to make it look more modern, which will help with the atmosphere. All in all, we had a great time & the food was very good.View more

The menu is dated. On the steak side, it's exactly what you would have gotten at any steakhouse 25 years ago. I had a Kansas cut, which was flavorful. The sides were a bit sad: the toppings on the Monte Carlo mashed potatoes were not generous, & the veggies were uninspired. On the sushi side it's competent but unimaginative. You can easily find much better elsewhere. The service was friendly but there were a few small mistakes (I had to ask for a steak knife, they left an empty wine glass on the table, etc). They are currently renovating part of the place, perhaps this will be the occasion for them to revamp things a bit? It would be nice for Montreal to have a truly innovative & upscale steakhouse.View more

Pour être honnete, meilleur steak vieilli 90 jours de ma vie, cuisson parfaite. Les sushis etait très frais, vraiment recommandé. Les contres maintenants: tartare de boeuf beaucoup trop piquant, sauce au poivre médiocre, vraiment décevant pour un steak house, beaucoup trop réduite, beaucoup trop de poivre, je ne crois pas qu'il y avait de la crème fraiche ni de cognac. Was here on Saturday, F1 night. Had an absolute garbage dinner at The Keg the previous night (only place to get a seat unfortunately) The great experience I had at Vargus was due to the bar staff: Joanne & the blond girl (I apologize but I didn't get her name) These 2 girls are the most outgoing, qualified, personable bartenders /hostesses I have ever been around. Friendly from the initial "hello", great to chat with about things while still servicing the busy bar & service area. Smiles the whole time & it was crazy busy. Two of the most genuine people I have interacted with in a very long time. I'm from Ottawa & I would come up for a night just to have dinner because of these 2 girls. I was with a buddy, in for the weekend, & we had a great time. Steak & sushi were fantastic as well. Great place to have dinner for sure & I will be back. Reserved the place for two friends & I for a bachelor's dinner. Not busy at all on a Sunday considering it's the long weekend. Ordered two platters of sushi accidentally but didn't regret it, a Porterhouse with fillet mignon. Food was absolutely phenomenal & the service was impeccable. Recommend this place 10/10View more

Food - their Lamb shanks, BBQ ribs, salmon plate are great. Tried their sushi for the first time, not bad at all. Onion soup is delicious with the old gruyere cheese. Cesar salad never disappoints. Their portion size varies from one dish to another. Service- nothing to complain about. Always good. Atmosphere- if you want a quiter ambience, do not sit near the bar. Otherwise, the ambience is great.View more

The steak was amazing. Rib eye fry aged 28 days to perfection. The sushi on the other hand was lacking, & probably not even on par with your typical all you can eat joint. The service was great, but it seemed like a restaurant made more for business meetings than to celebrate special occasions. Mid food Streak frite was expensive for what you're getting ,the fries are soggy but the meat is okay. The calamaries are tasteless & the batter crumble as soon as you touch it Sushis are fresh but again expensive (50 for 20 pieces) The apple cheese cake was old & it's graham base soggy. We were celebrating our anniversary & made reservations to eat here. Some of the low ratings concerned me however I don't see the merit in them? The food was fantastic! I ordered the Ribeye & my wife ordered the kamikaze. Also got a side of mushrooms & mashed potatoes. Everything was perfect, steak was cooked to perfection & the sushi was very high quality. Service was not slow at all (& the place was packed when we went). Not sure of the negative reviews but I had a great experience. Will return when we visit Montreal again!View more

Portions are large. Steak was tender. Sushi was good.

What do you get when an upscale, oldschool steakhouse specializing in surf 'n' turf tries to cater to an increasingly diverse, health-conscious clientele?
A group menu of gravy-drenched meat & unoriginal sushi, with sides of iceberg salad, bland vegetables, tastes-likes-it's-from-a-can tomato soup & plain mashed potatoes, garnished with an oh-so-elevated sprig of parsley.
Would I have come here on my own? No. I'm clearly not this restaurant's target demographic.
Do I appreciate the effort they made to include vegan & vegetarian options on their group menu, like breaded cauliflower? Absolutely.
Did I imagine the chefs in the kitchen exclaiming "oh God, we have to include vegetables" in desperation? Many times.
Did my meal remind me of sad wedding venue or cafeteria food? Yes.
But if you're planning a group dinner, it sure as heck beats a steak-only menu. Plus there's lots of seating, & service is quick & efficient, so you'll be back at the office in under 2 hours.View more
