It was absolutely amazing. My wife had the prime rib, which was done to perfection, accompanied by the garlic mashed potatoes. She absolutely enjoyed it! I had the Beef Wellington. It was also amazing! I also had the lobster mashed potatoes, & oh my goodness, they were brilliant! We followed up our meal with the strawberry cheesecake. Wow, it too was amazing!! Our waitress/bartender Amy was very friendly & extremely professional. She is a great conservationalist & wise beyond her years! You are very lucky to have such an amazing employee. Bravo!View more
Ordered Kansas aged steak for lunch. Tasted like I cooked it, not over a BBQ but on a Temu griddle. Unseasoned. Barely 1/2 inch. Tasted like steak you find on the clearance section of a low end supermarket. Baked potatoes top was great, bottom had the consistency of leather. Unimpressed. Service was great.View more
In Montreal for vacation & chose Vargas for our dinner the first night. They had just reopened & have a new menu. We shared the ahi tuna tartare, my husband ordered filet with shrimp & scalloped potatoes for his sides & I had the salmon wellington. Every bite was delicious, perfectly cooked & properly seasoned. I wish we had room for dessert. Our server Roberto was great. Highly recommend Vargas!View more
The menu is dated. On the steak side, it's exactly what you would have gotten at any steakhouse 25 years ago. I had a Kansas cut, which was flavorful. The sides were a bit sad: the toppings on the Monte Carlo mashed potatoes were not generous, & the veggies were uninspired. On the sushi side it's competent but unimaginative. You can easily find much better elsewhere. The service was friendly but there were a few small mistakes (I had to ask for a steak knife, they left an empty wine glass on the table, etc). They are currently renovating part of the place, perhaps this will be the occasion for them to revamp things a bit? It would be nice for Montreal to have a truly innovative & upscale steakhouse.View more
I ordered a steak & Monte Carlo potatoes for lunch & the steak tasted as if it was cooked & reheated for way too long. Medium cooked steak should never taste dry, terribly cooked. The best thing was the gravy, it tasted homemade & was the highlight of what I ate. I would try something different next time, maybe an off day for the chef when we went, but my expectations won't be very high.View more
We were celebrating our anniversary & made reservations to eat here. Some of the low ratings concerned me however I don't see the merit in them? The food was fantastic! I ordered the Ribeye & my wife ordered the kamikaze. Also got a side of mushrooms & mashed potatoes. Everything was perfect, steak was cooked to perfection & the sushi was very high quality. Service was not slow at all (& the place was packed when we went). Not sure of the negative reviews but I had a great experience. Will return when we visit Montreal again!View more
What do you get when an upscale, oldschool steakhouse specializing in surf 'n' turf tries to cater to an increasingly diverse, health-conscious clientele?
A group menu of gravy-drenched meat & unoriginal sushi, with sides of iceberg salad, bland vegetables, tastes-likes-it's-from-a-can tomato soup & plain mashed potatoes, garnished with an oh-so-elevated sprig of parsley.
Would I have come here on my own? No. I'm clearly not this restaurant's target demographic.
Do I appreciate the effort they made to include vegan & vegetarian options on their group menu, like breaded cauliflower? Absolutely.
Did I imagine the chefs in the kitchen exclaiming "oh God, we have to include vegetables" in desperation? Many times.
Did my meal remind me of sad wedding venue or cafeteria food? Yes.
But if you're planning a group dinner, it sure as heck beats a steak-only menu. Plus there's lots of seating, & service is quick & efficient, so you'll be back at the office in under 2 hours.View more

So on Saturday me & my friend went to this restaurant & let me tell you. The chef didn't do a good job at all,the Ribeye stake was so chewy & it was suppose to be medium rare was not that at all & it had sea salt on it was most disgusting thing ever I wish they can take it off the menu. & the main course I had calamari it was so chewy to & tight I had to send it back
& the mash potatoes was not good either it was so dry omg. The next time I go back their I want the sous chef Ronald Franklyn to be there cause the chef who works on the weekend don't do a good job..
