Located in Old Montreal, Vandale invites you to discover the cuisine of renowned chef Alex Payon as well as the cocktail menu of bar chef Jake Cristofaro. Located on McGill Street, a stone's throw from the Square Victoria metro and the Old Port, the Vandale restaurant opened its doors in September 2021. The kitchen offers classic dishes revisited with talent using local products.
Designed by the renowned Speakeasy team, the interior of Vandale Restaurant housed in a historic building, reflects the hip sensibilities of the Old Port and Griffintown. Arranged on several levels, this restaurant allows you to observe the 'Street Art' of a dozen Montreal artists. The spectacle is all at once in the hall, on the walls and in the open kitchen. The Vandal Team awaits you there.
Vandale offers a classy speakeasy vibe with a moody yet welcoming atmosphere, inventive cocktails and a diverse menu that ranges from generous share plates to satisfying mains, plus a notable private wine selection. The experience is frequently praised for attentive, friendly service and striking presentation, with guests often citing the ambiance, decor and the quality of drinks as standout features. Several reviews call Vandale a hidden gem and a memorable night out, though a few note higher prices and occasional service hiccups or slower pacing, particularly during busy times, and a drink detail not aligning with expectations. Overall, the venue delivers delicious food, well crafted cocktails, and a distinctive, immersive setting that many would return to for the atmosphere as much as for the flavors.
This is the second time I go to Vandale during Montréal à Table. I like to go during that time because the choices are limited & chefs are showing their best. I like the ambience, the painting on the walls (e.g. Anthony Bourdain). The service is great.

Mtl a table experience.
Food was all delicious, portions are very generous, esp the starters. Menu was varied.
Waiters are helpful but not overly well trained or well informed esp regarding wine choices. Service was prompt however.
Seems like a young crowd favors this place.
Group of 3, we went for MTL à Table! It was a very good tasting menu! The portions were pretty big considering it was 4 courses. The gnocchi & short rib were fantastic! The Staff, decor & vibe are great- there was just a super extra loud table next to us. All in all a very pleasant discovery !

Nous avons eu l'honneur de faire l'atelier de mixologie avec Paul. C'était hyper professionnel mais aussi très humain. Nous avons appris comment faire des drinks classiques.
We visited Vandale Speakeasy & were really impressed by the food - everything we ordered was delicious, well-prepared, & beautifully presented. Unfortunately, the service didn't quite match the quality of the kitchen. Our share plates arrived before our tasting plates & utensils, which made things a bit awkward. Our food even showed up before our drinks, despite the bar being fairly empty (we were told the bartender was backed up). Water glasses went unfilled all night, & there were long waits between each of the three courses.
What stood out most, however, was the nonchalant attitude of both our server & the bartender. There didn't seem to be much urgency or attentiveness, which dampened what could have been an otherwise fantastic dining experience. Honestly, it makes sense the place was empty on a Friday night.
The food alone makes Vandale worth a visit, but we hope the service catches up to the level of the kitchen.
Hidden gem in Montreal! Stopped in for the Atelier Mixology class in the basement of this restaurant (which was equally amazing). Had a drink at the bar before we started - absolutely delicious. The barman was kind, funny, & made the best drinks. These were not just generic beverages but rather artfully crafted, highly complex drinks. After the class, we decided to stay for dinner as it smelled SO good coming back up the stairs. We all opted for the 3 course meal - wow. Every course was more amazing than the last. I can't recommend this place enough! Merci!
