Situé au coeur du Centre-Ville Montréal, notre restaurant sur la rue Ste-Catherine est ouvert depuis 2016. Prêt du Quartier des Spectacles, tout près du métro Place-des-Arts, c'est un endroit idéal pour le petit déjeuner pour commencer la journée sur la bonne voie. Asseyez-vous, détendez-vous, et profitez de votre repas dans notre grande salle à manger, ou emportez l'un de nos délicieux choix avec vous. Universel Ste-Catherine est également un excellent endroit branché pour le dîner tous les jours et les soirées de l'année. Le décor moderne de verre et de cuir vous accueille dans la grande salle à manger. Venez déguster un bon repas avant ou après le travail, le shopping ou en soirée. Universel est prêt à satisfaire l'appétit de ses clients à tout moment de la journée. Profitez également du 4 à 7 du lundi au vendredi. Découvrez la scène du centre-ville soit à l'intérieur ou à l'extérieur sur notre grande terrasse. Sa grande carte des vins confirme que l'Universel tient à maintenir la barre haute, et sa liste des bières pression révèle un établissement qui est fier de ce que le Québec a à offrir. Bien qu'il attire les jeunes adultes, Universel Déjeuners et Grillades a également un menu pour enfants disponible intégré dans les deux menus disponibles, soit le menu régulier et le menu déjeuner. Ajouter certains plats de petit-déjeuner impressionnants et la spécialité de la maison "Déjeuner Universel", et il est clair que ce restaurant vit bien sa dualité d'endroit familial et convivial et de restaurant branché.

I've visited Universel Déjeuners (359 Rue Ste-Catherine O.) four times in the last three years, with the most recent time in July 2025. It has consistently provided satisfying & tasty breakfasts with good service & reasonable value.
Each time, I've been seated promptly & treated courteously. Although the servers are busy, they've done a good job each time. The coffee was refilled, the orders were done right, & the service was pleasant & efficient.
I had the namesake Déjeuner Universal. Two scrambled eggs, a crepe with added strawberries, bananas, & chocolate-hazelnut spread, along with bacon, brown beans, home-fried potatoes, toast, jam & cretons. I added ham & sausages, too. It was a massive breakfast, but I was very hungry (I'd been exercising a lot & walking about 30,000 steps a day.) It did not disappoint. Au contraire!
I've also tried their waffles. Very tasty! Their maple syrup was perfect. Not sure why, but it somehow tasted better than what I've had at other breakfast restaurants.
Previously, I enjoyed a tasty Mexican breakfast burrito, filled with scrambled eggs, cheese, brown beans, salsa & guacamole, & accompanied by their delicious home-fried potatoes & some fresh fruit. Very tasty. Very satisfying.
The portions have always been good & they seemed to use fresh, quality ingredients. The menu is big.
The place was clean & orderly, & the decor was modern & pleasant.
I've been to their similar-sized competitor nearby (a bit east on Ste. Catherine), but I prefer Universel Déjeuners.Voir plus

We were a group of three young women. Food & atmosphere was on level with any other restaurant at this price point. When it came time to pay the $140 tab, I realized I had only brought $150 with me & left the server a $10 tip. When our server saw the tip, she proceeded to chastise us, telling us she only makes $12 per hour & that she expected at least a $40 tip... & then stayed at our table & demanded we give her more money. I have never seen or heard of any establishment allowing their staff to do that & shame on them for paying their staff so little that servers have to resort to bullying their own customers to make ends meet. J'ai eu deux expériences très différentes à L'Universel.
La première fois, c'était pour un lunch : service excellent, personnel attentionné, & le plat de saumon était absolument délicieux. J'étais très satisfaite.
Malheureusement, lors d'une seconde visite pour un souper, j'ai commandé le même plat, & j'ai été déçue. Le goût n'était pas du tout le même, & la qualité semblait moindre. Mon ami a également été déçu par son plat.
Dommage pour ce manque de constance. Le restaurant a du potentiel, mais il faudrait vraiment plus de régularité dans la qualité des plats & du service.Voir plus

The restaurant is amazing - very clean, & the staff are welcoming & friendly. Theepan , the owner, is always present, checking in to see if everything is okay or if you need anything. He is very kind & attentive. The food is delicious, & the portions are generous.

Personnel incroyable, surtout Saad qui a dépassé le concept de la gentillesse & de la bienvenue. Il est super accueillant, il nous parle comme un ami & rigole avec nous comme un vrai poto depuis 30ans. Honestly I felt compelled to write a review solely because of how great this place was. The prices were super reasonable, the atmosphere was perfect & represented the heart of Montreal. It was quite busy but our food did not take long at all & the service was excellent & speedy. 10/10 would recommend to anyone staying or passing through Montreal to eat here for a good breakfast.Voir plus

Toujours un excellent moment, ça fait plus de 10 fois que l'on vient manger un brunch ici & tout est toujours parfait !
le weekend il y a un peu plus de bruits que la semaine mais ca va & on est placé tout de suite sans attente !
Les serveurs sont attentionnés la nourriture est très bonne pour le brunch.
