Top spot for breakfast/brunch or any other time of the day! Amazing menu covers every option, & fresh fruit with everything. Servers are lovely, the prices are great, & the food is delicious! What's not to like?
Our first visit to this location. We have eaten at the Peel Street location before. They both are a pleasant place for breakfast. A wide range of food options. I would recommend going.
Went there during a visit to Montreal. The food was great & all. After I paid the bill & put the tip that I want, the server came to me & told me they have a 15% minimum tip policy, & I was like I didn't know. He just stood there waiting for the extra money to match the 15%, & he was like you still need to pay 6$ more. I see this as unbelievably rude! A tip is completely optional & I get to tip as much as I want/can. You don't get to stand there waiting for me to pay the rest in cash or whatever. Despite the good food, i am not coming back again because of this mandatory tipping policy.
The food was pretty good. It's a normal breakfast place. What I like about this place is you have a lot of options either for the drinks or the food . but for the service it was really slow. It took us time to get our drinks. We got the food before as for the atmosphere. It's a cute place. You have a terrace outside or you can sit inside. It's pretty cute.

I absolutely adore this diner in Montréal! The spacious layout & ample seating make for a comfortable dining experience. The service is both prompt & welcoming, ensuring a quick turnover of tables. We indulged in the UNIVERSEL BREAKFAST, & the crepes & sausages were definite highlights - bursting with flavor & perfectly cooked. The generous portions left us thoroughly satisfied, & the option to personalize the crepes with favorite fruits was a delightful touch. Overall, a fantastic dining experience that guarantees my return on my next trip to Montréal.
I once received great service but the second & last time I went, our waiter who gave bad service & couldn't even keep up with the bare minimum completely changed attitude when I wanted to tip less than 15% saying that in restaurants you HAVE to tip at least 15%. He became rude & we didn't receive a proper goodbye. I tip 15% when you do a good job, but he didn't as I mentioned earlier. As a waiter, you shouldn't even discuss about tip with your customers as it is EXTRA & OPTIONAL.
Having visited this restaurant several times for lunch, I recently decided to try their breakfast. I was pleasantly surprised by the diversity of the breakfast menu, which I found to be more varied than their lunch offerings. However, I noticed that a majority of the dishes included pork, which might not cater to the dietary preferences of all patrons. The vegetarian omelette I ordered was copious, thoughtfully prepared & delicious. This was a delightful contrast to the lunch options I had tried earlier, which were rather ordinary. One point to note was that tea/coffee, which was included in the price, was not initially offered. After waiting for some time, we had to ask for it, which was a bit of an oversight on the part of the service. Overall, I had a positive experience & look forward to seeing how the menu evolves in the future.
Excellent service- all the staff members are kind & attentive. Food options are great; there is wifi so you can work from here as well.
Very helpful, I mentioned a good allergy & they immediately offered a better option, & bilingual amazing, I wish Gatineau was like this

We had a server today that demanded we tip. When he handed us the machine, he had already selected the tip option. When I unselected it & paid, he lectured me on how people HAVE to tip here. I have been here before, & our server was amazing. She was very attentive, & I did tip that time. This time, we saw our server twice, & when it was time to pay he told us that we have to get up & pay at the front when I've seen other people pay at their table & last time they bought the machine to us as well. This time around, I felt very disrespected. He tried to take advantage of us, knowing we were tourists. The food was okay. I'll never come back after this experience.

One particular highlight is their "skillfully" prepared crispy potatoes, a definite must of the whole breakfast seasoned to perfection that never fail to impress me. The addition of fresh fruits adds a wholesome touch as well. While the brunch selection truly is exceptional, it's important to note that the lunch menu comes with a slightly higher price point. However, considering the top-notch quality, diverse offerings, & inviting ambiance, I think it's quite acceptable to indulge a bit every once in a while. All in all, Universel offers a diverse brunch menu, making it a definite recommendation for anyone seeking both comfort & indulging brunch experience!
