Bien qu'il attire les jeunes adultes, Universel Déjeuners et Grillades a également un menu pour enfants disponible intégré dans les deux menus disponibles, soit le menu régulier et le menu déjeuner. Johan, our server, was kind, professional, & incredibly attentive throughout our entire visit. He checked on us several times to make sure everything was going well & that we had everything we needed, which made us feel genuinely cared for. It's always such a great feeling when a server is present without being intrusive, & Johan struck that perfect balance.
I truly enjoyed my meal-the portion was very generous, & everything tasted fresh & delicious. You definitely get great value for what you pay. Between the excellent service & the quality of the food, the whole experience felt worth it. I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone looking for a satisfying meal & outstanding service. I'll definitely be coming back!
Universal Déjeuners & Grillades is an amazing spot for breakfast & brunch! The menu is extensive, offering everything from classic breakfast plates to creative dishes, & everything is cooked to perfection. Portions are generous, ingredients are fresh, & the presentation is always great. The atmosphere is warm & welcoming, perfect for families or friends. The staff is friendly, attentive, & makes sure you have a great experience. If you're looking for a hearty, delicious breakfast in a cozy setting, this is the place to go!

I've visited Universel Déjeuners (359 Rue Ste-Catherine O.) four times in the last three years, with the most recent time in July 2025. It has consistently provided satisfying & tasty breakfasts with good service & reasonable value.
Each time, I've been seated promptly & treated courteously. Although the servers are busy, they've done a good job each time. The coffee was refilled, the orders were done right, & the service was pleasant & efficient.
I had the namesake Déjeuner Universal. Two scrambled eggs, a crepe with added strawberries, bananas, & chocolate-hazelnut spread, along with bacon, brown beans, home-fried potatoes, toast, jam & cretons. I added ham & sausages, too. It was a massive breakfast, but I was very hungry (I'd been exercising a lot & walking about 30,000 steps a day.) It did not disappoint. Au contraire!
I've also tried their waffles. Very tasty! Their maple syrup was perfect. Not sure why, but it somehow tasted better than what I've had at other breakfast restaurants.
Previously, I enjoyed a tasty Mexican breakfast burrito, filled with scrambled eggs, cheese, brown beans, salsa & guacamole, & accompanied by their delicious home-fried potatoes & some fresh fruit. Very tasty. Very satisfying.
The portions have always been good & they seemed to use fresh, quality ingredients. The menu is big.
The place was clean & orderly, & the decor was modern & pleasant.
I've been to their similar-sized competitor nearby (a bit east on Ste. Catherine), but I prefer Universel Déjeuners.
Top spot for breakfast/brunch or any other time of the day! Amazing menu covers every option, & fresh fruit with everything. Servers are lovely, the prices are great, & the food is delicious! What's not to like?

The combination was delightful, with each ingredient complementing the others perfectly. Mushroom Egg Benedict: Another excellent variation of the classic dish, featuring sautéed mushrooms that added an earthy richness to the creamy hollandaise & perfectly cooked eggs. *Service: The service was smooth & efficient, accommodating groups of any size with ease. The staff was attentive, ensuring that our needs were met throughout the meal. We went multiple times to this pleasant restaurant for breakfast. My kids & us loved the food & the ambiance. The food was always delicious & fresh. We had an amazing waitress the first day (I didn't get her name). Johan was our waiter the other days. He was always attentive & friendly. We had a great time here. Thank you very much for the hospitality & the great food. Highly recommend this restaurant when visiting Montreal.

Servers were incredibly friendly, food prep was clean & fresh, constant refills on water & coffee which was great. & refreshing, lively interior design.
This food is so good I would eat every meal here for the rest of my life. So much variety. Always fresh. Absolutely delicious. Very fair prices for portion sizes. Never disappointed!

The restaurant strikes a harmonious chord, offering classic brunch dishes without unnecessary extravagance, all while keeping prices pleasingly reasonable. One particular highlight is their "skillfully" prepared crispy potatoes, a definite must of the whole breakfast seasoned to perfection that never fail to impress me. The addition of fresh fruits adds a wholesome touch as well. While the brunch selection truly is exceptional, it's important to note that the lunch menu comes with a slightly higher price point. However, considering the top-notch quality, diverse offerings, & inviting ambiance, I think it's quite acceptable to indulge a bit every once in a while. All in all, Universel offers a diverse brunch menu, making it a definite recommendation for anyone seeking both comfort & indulging brunch experience!
