Located in the heart of Downtown Montreal, near Place des Festivals, near Place-des-Arts metro station, it is a great spot for breakfast to get your day started off on the right track. Sit, relax, and enjoy your meal in our large dining area, or take any of our delicious choices on the go. Universel Ste-Catherine is also an excellent downtown hot spot for dinner all days and nights of the year. Its modern décor of glass and leather welcomes you in its large dining room. Come and enjoy a great meal before or after work, shopping or a night out. Universel is ready to satisfy its customers' appetites anytime of the day. Also enjoy Happy Hour Monday to Friday from 4pm-7pm. Experience the downtown scene either indoors or outdoors on our large terrace. Its extensive wine list cements this restaurant's wish to maintain its high standards, and its list of beers on tap reveals an establishment that takes pride in what Quebec has to offer. Despite its obvious appeal to the young adult crowd, Universel Déjeuners et Grillades also has a children's menu available for both its breakfast/lunch and dinner sets. Add in some impressive breakfast platters and the house specialty "Déjeuner Universel", and it's clear that this restaurant easily juggles its dual personality as a family-friendly establishment and a chic eatery.

Great portion sizes & amazing flavours! The smoothies are delicious & the eggs benedict come with a great variety of fruits on the side.

Our waiter Rahman was so friendly & attentive, he always checked on us to make sure we were doing well!

I've visited Universel Déjeuners (359 Rue Ste-Catherine O.) four times in the last three years, with the most recent time in July 2025. It has consistently provided satisfying & tasty breakfasts with good service & reasonable value.

Each time, I've been seated promptly & treated courteously. Although the servers are busy, they've done a good job each time. The coffee was refilled, the orders were done right, & the service was pleasant & efficient.

I had the namesake Déjeuner Universal. Two scrambled eggs, a crepe with added strawberries, bananas, & chocolate-hazelnut spread, along with bacon, brown beans, home-fried potatoes, toast, jam & cretons. I added ham & sausages, too. It was a massive breakfast, but I was very hungry (I'd been exercising a lot & walking about 30,000 steps a day.) It did not disappoint. Au contraire!

I've also tried their waffles. Very tasty! Their maple syrup was perfect. Not sure why, but it somehow tasted better than what I've had at other breakfast restaurants.

Previously, I enjoyed a tasty Mexican breakfast burrito, filled with scrambled eggs, cheese, brown beans, salsa & guacamole, & accompanied by their delicious home-fried potatoes & some fresh fruit. Very tasty. Very satisfying.

The portions have always been good & they seemed to use fresh, quality ingredients. The menu is big.

The place was clean & orderly, & the decor was modern & pleasant.

I've been to their similar-sized competitor nearby (a bit east on Ste. Catherine), but I prefer Universel Déjeuners.

My Egg Benedict Florentine has a big bowl of fruits, nutritious balanced & vision pleased brunch, very enjoyable. The atmosphere was good, spacious dining space, contemporary interior, nice music, encouraging conversation.

Service was great & always present. Waitress notice my wife was picking at her meal. The gluten free bread she had with her eggs was not good. My roast beef sandwich was good but not great. Food ok in balance service was great!

**Universel Déjeuners & Grillades: A Delightful Lunch Experience** *Recommended by a family friend from Toronto, Universel Déjeuners & Grillades did not disappoint.* Coffee: We began our meal with a regular coffee that felt like heaven in a cup. The rich aroma & perfect balance made it a great start to our lunch. Dishes Ordered: Bacon Egg Benedict: Perfectly poached eggs with crispy bacon, served on a fresh English muffin, all smothered in a silky hollandaise sauce. The flavors were spot on, & the dish was well-prepared. Asparagus, Ham, & Swiss Cheese Omelette: A fluffy omelette filled with tender asparagus, savory ham, & melted Swiss cheese. The combination was delightful, with each ingredient complementing the others perfectly. Mushroom Egg Benedict: Another excellent variation of the classic dish, featuring sautéed mushrooms that added an earthy richness to the creamy hollandaise & perfectly cooked eggs. *Service: The service was smooth & efficient, accommodating groups of any size with ease. The staff was attentive, ensuring that our needs were met throughout the meal. Presentation & Portions: One of the standout aspects of Universel Déjeuners & Grillades is the presentation & portion sizes. Each dish was beautifully presented, making the meal visually appealing. The generous portions ensured that we left feeling satisfied & content. Overall Experience: Universel Déjeuners & Grillades offers a wonderful dining experience with delicious food, excellent service, & a welcoming atmosphere. Whether you're in the mood for a classic breakfast or something a bit more unique, this restaurant is sure to impress.

Popular brunch chain in Montreal. A lot of menu options from classic breakfast, eggs benedict, omelettes, & lunch diner options. A lot of seating including outdoors.

We sat outside on a warm late morning & had a very good breakfast. I liked how we were warned about the wasps beforehand, but they are everywhere this summer so it is what it is.

Overall one of the best values for breakfast that we found on our trip. Two orders of eggs, meat, potatoes, toast & coffee along with a substantial kids meal was less than $40!

Food was tasty, coffee was delicious & the service was top notch. Can't wait to come back again on our next visit up the 401 to Montreal.
