One of the best dining experiences we've had in Montreal in a very long time !! Food was on point & the service was excellent. Ask for Marilie, she is a gem, had great recommendations & tips, the wine she recommended went perfectly with our meal & she has a great sense of humor!!
Marco is super kind & accommodated us on the terrasse despite being fully booked. In a series of disappointing dining experiences in the last year (mostly due to service), yesterday reinstated my hope in great restaurants & service ! Will definitely be back, thank you !!
Tuck Shop is the restaurant equivalent of that one friend who never tries too hard but always shows up looking incredible. Tucked on Notre-Dame West in Saint-Henri, it has the rare quality of being a genuinely great restaurant that doesn't seem to know - or care - that it's a genuinely great restaurant. No dress code, no attitude, no one asking you how the first few bites are going. Just good people, good wine, & good food doing its thing.
The steak frites is the kind of dish that makes you briefly angry at every other steak frites you've ever had. Perfectly cooked, no theatrics, no unnecessary foam or micro-herb situation - just meat & fries that have clearly been thought about by people who take the simple stuff seriously. This is the spot where industry people go on their nights off, & if that's not the highest possible endorsement a restaurant can receive, I don't know what is.
Great place ! The maitre'd Jonathan is incredible - great taste in wine & fantastic service.
Tuck Shop has always been a'go to' spot for my wife & I. From date nights, to birthdays to anniversaries, we've been many times in the last few years. The food, the wine & the service are always exceptional. This past weekend though, they truly outdid themselves. I was planning a surprise dinner with about 18 guests. Other restaurants wanted to charge me exorbitant amounts of money for a group that size, or offered me ridiculous seating times like 5pm or 9:30pm. Not Tuck Shop though. I spoke with Jonathan & his exact words were'I'll do what it takes to make this happen.' & let me tell you, he wasn't kidding. The dinner was amazing from start to finish. Every guest was beyond impressed. All in all, I can't thank them enough for an extraordinary dinning experience. I cannot emphasize how much I recommend this restaurant. Go ASAP!
Beautiful ingredients, local produce, & a thoughtful wine selection. The effort in the kitchen is remarkable, & the service is truly exceptional.
however, the wine list pricing is greatly exaggerated. There should be more affordable options. The least expensive'reasonable' wine is 110$.
Wishing you & your team all the best & Continued success to all!
Our experience was, unfortunately, disappointing. We were a table of three on a Saturday night, & the overall atmosphere was overwhelmingly loud. The music was excessively loud, leading guests & staff to shout just to hold a conversation. On top of that, the open kitchen contributed a lot of additional noise. Staff didn't seem trained to minimize the noise, & no measures appeared to be in place to reduce sound. I've been to open kitchens where the cooks work quietly & efficiently, this wasn't one of them.
We were seated directly across from the restrooms, which was not ideal. Guests often left the doors open, though I have to give credit to the waiters who diligently closed them each time they walked by. Still, it wasn't a pleasant or comfortable spot to dine.
As for the food, it was overall good but didn't leave a lasting impression. A special mention goes to the quality of the meat for the Onglet de Boeuf & the lemon curd for dessert but on the other hand, the crème brûlée was a complete miss & the aspargus appetizer quite bland.
Toward the end of the evening, four different staff members came by to ask if we were finished with dessert. It came across as pushy & gave us the impression that we were being rushed out, despite the restaurant still being busy & nearby tables just receiving their main courses
On a positive note, the wine recommendation was excellent.
Unfortunately, I don't plan to return & wouldn't recommend it to others, but I hope this feedback can contribute to improving the overall guest experience.
Recently booked a table at Tuck Shop, & from start to finish, everything was spot on. From the moment we walked in the door, we were immediately taken care of.
The service was outstanding. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly, attentive, & made us feel right at home. They were genuinely excited to share their knowledge about the food & drinks, which made the experience even better.
The wine list is great, & the staff really knows their stuff. We got an awesome recommendation for a bottle that paired perfectly with our meal.
As for the food - we expected it to be so, but it was incredible. We sat at the chef's counter, & it was great to watch the chefs work their magic. Each dish was fresh, full of flavour, & beautifully presented.
The menu changes every month based on what's in season, so you know everything is always fresh & well thought out.
All in all, Tuck Shop is a St. Henri & Montreal gem. Great food, excellent service, & a cool atmosphere. Can't wait to go back!
Incredible food with a vast selection of wines, & excellent service! Highly recommend the oysters & steak, if on the menu.
Tuck Shop used to be one of our favorite spots-we always loved the food, the ambiance, & the overall experience. Unfortunately, something has changed, & our recent visit left us extremely disappointed.
From the moment we sat down, we felt rushed through our entire three-course meal. Our $100 bottle of wine was repeatedly poured high, seemingly to encourage faster consumption. As we were slowly savoring our last glass, we were abruptly informed that we couldn't order a cocktail to finish our evening because we needed to vacate the table in five minutes & jackets were delivered to our chairs, which were quickly taken back when I asked to first finish my wine glass.
The worst part? We were only given 1 hour & 15 minutes to enjoy a full three-course meal & a bottle of wine-an experience that should have felt indulgent & enjoyable, not pressured & hurried. Meanwhile, two other couples were there before us & still enjoying a coffee & dessert while we had to go. For a pricy evening, it was one of the most dissatisfying dining experiences we've had in a long time.
If you value a relaxed & well-paced dining experience, I'd recommend looking elsewhere. We won't be returning anytime soon.
Food was pretty good. The sommelier was trying to upsell me on getting the more expensive wine to "impress my clients" not knowing that it was just a company meal. Kinda weird!
