We went at 6 so I feel like we were pre-party atmosphere but all the staff was chatting with us; it was a great vibe. We had coconut shrimp, oxtail tacos, & jerk chicken. While all was amazing, I'm going back again for that jerk chicken…..best I've had in the area. Highly recommend :)
Tropikàl is a vibrant cozy lounge taking all the best cuisines, charm, & culture from each caribbean nation. We booked a late dinner, & boy are we glad we did. As the delicious foods & drinks flowed. The space slowly transformed to a dancehall hub. The DJ set up & the tables slowly disappeared. We didn't need to leave for clubbing as dinner turned into a night of dance. The Jerk calamari was the star of the show. Along with the curry goat with rice & peas tasted home-made, the roti to soak up the gravey was a nice touch. The fritters was too salty (more than saltfish fritters is expected to be). The stuffed plaintains were good, but our table was conflicted on whether the callaou was fresh. The ackee was clearly from a can, with minimal prep. The jerk tacos was on the sweeter side, which was unexpected. The spicy mango wings was good but tasted more lemon pepper than mango, still a little tangy. Their jerk dipping sauce is undefeated. Overall the staff clearly take pride in the asethics & outward appearance of the restaurant. The bathrooms, & accommodations needs serious attention.
I visited this place the last time I was in Montreal just for dancing & it was a great time. This time we were adamant about going for the food & made the reso weeks in advance. My husband & I had trouble deciding on what we wanted to eat because everything was fantastic. We had the Rasta pasta with oxtails, ackee & salt fish fritters, oxtail tacos & the jerk chicken. Oh my! Everything was so good. I was surprised about the amount of chicken we were given, the tacos were flavorful, the pasta had the perfect amount of spice & the fritters were phenomenal. The service 10/10. Jah was our waitress & Arielle is who greeted us at the door, both so kind & attentive. The restaurant was short staffed so we waited about 10 mins before being seated, the staff were incredibly kind & gave us free drinks to apologize for the delay. When Arielle found out it was our anniversary they gave us dessert on the house. The hospitality & service was amazing. I truly recommend to everyone & we may even go back before having to return to Alberta!
J'ai pris les tacos au poulet & j'ai été extrêmement décue de la taille de la portion... Je crois que ça aurait dû être classé dans les entrées. Je m'attends normalement à ce qu'un plat principal soit suffisant & soit satisfaisant quand je vais au restaurant. & il y aurait dû y avoir des photos des plats. Aussi on s'entendait pas parler. Musique trop forte!
I am so impressed about the food & service! The food was sooo soo delicious omgness , i took the taco beef oxtail & my husband the goat curry , honestly it was the best meal we ever had , so much flavor yummy , also the service wow we never felt so welcomed, everyone is niceeee , social amd caring🥹also pls note if you get a seat at the bar dont worry, once u sit ull like it & once u get the food youll love it ;) its worth it trust me !
Amazing food! The jerk chicken, wings, & tacos were all delicious, the mac & cheese was unreal.... & the drinks were great too. Service was exceptional, especially Ariel. Highly recommend!
EXCELLENT! Friday night, the music was a vibe, the spicy pineapple margarita was delicious. We ordered the jerk calamari... omg... the best calamari we ever had... with pikliz!!!! & the side jerk sauce with a little sweetness!!!!! YYUUUMMMMYYYYY!!!! Honestly that sauce should be bottled & sold everywhere because I would use it with everything. We also ordred the jerk poutine & the oxtail mac & cheese. It was just so tasty & perfect. I love how they mix all the Carribean superstar foods together in flavorbomb balanced heavenly bites. The staff was kind, knowledgable, from the hostess to the busboy. The waitress was attentive. It looked like they all worked well as a team (even with a short staff due to some being under the weather that day & not able to show up to work). I've been there before & tried different apps & entres: mushrooms, plaintain, chicken wings, tacos.... everything was tasty. I dont go there for typical traditional dishes but I'm sure those are great too. I love the creativity. BOTTLE UP THAT SAUCE, CHEF!
Everything was absolutely amazingly delicious!!! The food 10/10! The customer service 10/10!! The drinks were delicious! I'm definitely comming back for the Mac & cheese topped with jerk chicken & the shrimp tacos!! Jessica was an amazing server! A new fav spot !!
La nourriture est super bonne! Nous avons partagé plusieurs à-côtés & j'ai pris les tacos au poulet jerk, tout était bon & les portions généreuses. Service un peu lent, mais sinon rien à dire. J'y retournerai c'est certain.
I found this spot on TikTok & knew I had to visit when I got to Montreal. The food & service & vibes were all amazing (shoutout to Aliyah & Ariel!). My mom & I had an amazing time & loved the experience so much. The oxtail tacos & coconut shrimp were both so delicious!
Service was attentive & our server was so sweet! Mac n cheese does gran proud indeed.. jerk tacos were fun & filled to the brim but goat curry was a miss - overcooked & bit too bland we were floored they had no hot sauce except tabasco to offer us for a carribean spot! Impressed by what looked like a young team in the kitchen covering a Wednesday
J'aime beaucoup la décoration du resto. La musique était on. La nourriture est bonne aussi, sauf que pour certains plats (les tacos aux crevettes), pour le prix que ça coûte, les tacos sont petits, ça rempli pas. Le daiquiri goutait pas grand chose & le menu sur place est pas vraiment le meme que sur internet. Ps: 275$ de facturation si jannule ma réservation trop tard, c'est abusé, jamais vu ça.
The food was amazing we ordered the jerk chicken & ox tail tacos & it was our first time having this & they were to die for, our server anaise was so friendly & made the whole experience even better highly recommend this place!!
Delicious plantains! For people that don't like spicy, the Oxtail or Shrimp tacos are good choices. They ran out of the South African pinot grichio I really wanted to try but the food was good. Table was a little shaky.
The best restaurant in Montreal, hands down. We got the Rasta Pasta with jerk chicken, the jerk calamari & the oxtail tacos. The oxtail tacos were a spiritual experience, the flavours were rich & complex. If you haven't been to Tropikal yet, you gotta go!!
Manquait bcq de choses sur le menu/bar. Tacos oxtail peu garni, sauce aucun goût, bonne musique, beau décor, gentille serveuse. Je ne sais pas si je retournerais..
Fantastic service & ambiance but drinks are watered down & the jerk chicken is a missed opportunity. Chicken was semi-warm with rubbery skin & the marinade was pasty as the raw spices had not been cooked. The oxtail tacos were one note that could have benefited from a crunchy slaw for a little bit of acidity. Overall disappointing.
We found this an odd experience...overall good food but poor service, & one of the rum drinks (tropikal passion) tasted like water. It took a long time for anyone to greet us or take drink orders. Our server spent more time on her iPad than talking to us, & was confused by our order each time. We liked the jerk chicken wings, ceviche was weird & soupy, great prawn tacos. They were out of oysters (though I saw a platter go by), & no mint meant our drink order wasn't possible (but mint is not mentioned in the drink description). We also ordered the po' boy sandwich, which never arrived. We'd had enough, so used the e-payment system (no sign of the sandwich on the bill) & quickly left. Would not recommend - decent food doesn't make up for poor service & drinks missing alcohol.
Everything was lovly. Also enjoyed the music. Oxtail taco was our fave then curry goat.
