A friend suggested we try Tropikàl Restobar while in Montreal & we were so glad we did.
Food recs-
Griot: pork was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, & packed with flavor
Mac n' cheese: don't sleep on this-sauce was uniquely spiced & literally the best we've ever had
Jerk chicken: juicy, tender, & spiced really well
Drink recs-
Ti-Ponch Fashioned: Nice take on a classic old fashioned; lime bitters & lime zest complimented the white rum well
Tropikal Passion: a unique drink with a sorrel cherry foam & a semi sweet citrusy base
If you're in the mood for comforting food & good vibes, Tropikal is a great option.
The food & vibe were fantastic. Amazing & friendly service, & will be coming back for the best mac & cheese with ox tail on top!
Ordered a $55'Oxtail to Share' expecting it to be suitable for two people, but it turned out to be a portion barely enough for one - & even then, on the small side. We also ordered a mac & cheese, which was delicious, but again surprisingly small for the price. While the food itself was good, the portion sizes felt disappointing given the cost & descriptions on the menu.
Only recommended if you want to pay $50 to taste something good but still feel hungry afterwards!
Had such an amazing time here! Huge shoutout to Ariel, Jessica, & Fafia, their service was super friendly, fast, & made the whole experience even better. I had the mac&cheese, & it was absolutely delicious. The vibe was amazing too, cozy, fun, & super welcoming. Definitely coming back
Amazing food! The jerk chicken, wings, & tacos were all delicious, the mac & cheese was unreal.... & the drinks were great too. Service was exceptional, especially Ariel. Highly recommend!
EXCELLENT! Friday night, the music was a vibe, the spicy pineapple margarita was delicious. We ordered the jerk calamari... omg... the best calamari we ever had... with pikliz!!!! & the side jerk sauce with a little sweetness!!!!! YYUUUMMMMYYYYY!!!! Honestly that sauce should be bottled & sold everywhere because I would use it with everything. We also ordred the jerk poutine & the oxtail mac & cheese. It was just so tasty & perfect. I love how they mix all the Carribean superstar foods together in flavorbomb balanced heavenly bites. The staff was kind, knowledgable, from the hostess to the busboy. The waitress was attentive. It looked like they all worked well as a team (even with a short staff due to some being under the weather that day & not able to show up to work). I've been there before & tried different apps & entres: mushrooms, plaintain, chicken wings, tacos.... everything was tasty. I dont go there for typical traditional dishes but I'm sure those are great too. I love the creativity. BOTTLE UP THAT SAUCE, CHEF!
Everything was absolutely amazingly delicious!!! The food 10/10! The customer service 10/10!! The drinks were delicious! I'm definitely comming back for the Mac & cheese topped with jerk chicken & the shrimp tacos!! Jessica was an amazing server! A new fav spot !!
Where do I even start! My friends & I travelled from NJ to celebrate my birthday. Ariel & Jessica worked their magic to ensure we had a great experience from start to finish! Ariel & Jessica were warm, inviting, & provided exceptional service. The DJ was absolutely amazing, his Kompa set was fire! The food was a 10/10. I tasted the jerk chicken, oxtail Mac & cheese, jerk wings, & my expectations were met! The drinks were fabulous! From the bottom of my heart I want to thank Ariel, Jessica, the DJ, & the kitchen staff for making my birthday a memorable experience! I would highly recommend TROPIKAL!
Amazing food! Service outstanding. Jessica is friendly & professional. All fresh ingredients. Jerk wings were great, mild or spicy mango. Jerk chicken, Shrimp were outstanding, big kick. Rice & peas great. Fries great. Special request, red snapper phenomenal. I am gluten free, so I couldn't enjoy the Mac n cheese, but the rest of the group said it was good. For a group of Black people from the South, it is high praise. People were not fans of the rum cake. Thank you for accommodating our large group. The chef was a pleasure to help develop the prefix menu. Need bigger water glasses because the spice will get you!

C'est mon nouveau restaurant préféré, tout est impeccable. La musique est bonne & le service est chaleureux. & que dire de la cuisine, j'ai pris les calamars, les creuvettes, mac & cheese, chevre cabri & le griot & tout était excellent. Mon coup de coeur est le griot, c'est le meilleur que j'ai mangé ever. Je recommande fortement.
Magnifique accueille bon service jamais en manque de rafraîchissement j'ai peu goûter au poulet jerk & au cheese & oxtail très délicieux bien épicé comme on n'aime dans nos pays chaud des Caraïbes
Service was attentive & our server was so sweet! Mac n cheese does gran proud indeed.. jerk tacos were fun & filled to the brim but goat curry was a miss - overcooked & bit too bland we were floored they had no hot sauce except tabasco to offer us for a carribean spot! Impressed by what looked like a young team in the kitchen covering a Wednesday
The service was great, servers were very friendly & nice. The food took forever to come out. The drinks were really tasty tho. I ordered the curry goat however it was tasting more like lamb but the rice & peas was delicious so was the Mac & cheeseee. Went on a Saturday the DJ was amazing but the atmosphere took a while to get poppin.

The ambience & service is spot on. You want to stay, & groove to their (fire) sound track. The main dishes (griot) & sides (mac n cheese) were delicious, mouth watering & uniquely seasoned. These are your favourite dishes levelled up. Where this place lost a point was with their cocktails (especially their signature punch) which was overwrought with bitters. Will we return? Absolutely, it's well worth visiting again.
The food is Great (Jerk Chicken Mac&Cheese was perfect the plantain sweet as always ) the drinks too ! I really enjoyed my experience. It’s a nice spot to go on a date or by yourself.

It was a not fully packed Friday night, my friends & I ordered our drink which are exquisite.
The Jerk Chicken Mac & Cheese was delicious. The place looked in fact tropical. The service was on point.
The only reason why it’s not a five star is that we waited almost an hour for the food. Even when the food arrived it didn’t arrive at same time. There was a huge time lapse between some of us. The part I couldn’t understand is how my fries only arrived when everyone finished the meal.
I went there with my husband last night & we had a fantastic experience. We sat at the bar & we tried different cocktails. You can literally pick any cocktail from the menu & you will be wonderfully surprised with the unique tastes. Our favorites were Éwé, Fré & the rum punch.
The food is out of this world. We tried the coconut shrimps, which was a bit spicy, but nonetheless delicious. Then We tried the fish with the rice & we ended with the cheese dip. The bar stuff were so attentive & truly made our experience unforgettable. All in all it was wonderful. We will definitely go back. Recommend 10/10
