Went for dinner last night with my wife & every single dish was a 10 out of 10. The food is authentic & the flavors are incredible; you can taste that it's fresh & made with care. Great selection too, so many options to choose from that we're already planning to go back & work through the menu. Warm spot, easygoing vibe, & a real taste of South India right here in Montreal. Highly recommend.
Very slow service. We waited a long time for our food, & even tea & coffee took too long to be served, even though they were made using a machine. Many customers came in but left because of the slow service. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this restaurant.

We used Thanjai to cater some meals for our family reunion, & we could not have been happier with the experience!
We ordered vada, samosas, biryani, & had Thanjai come to our venue for a live dosa bar. Everything was fresh, flavorful, & delicious. The team was friendly, respectful, accommodating, arrived on time, & made everything seamless. The pricing was also very reasonable, especially for the quality of food & number of people we were feeding!
If you're looking for authentic, delicious Indian food in Montreal with outstanding customer service, I highly recommend Thanjai. They played a big part in making our family reunion such a memorable event. Thank you for everything!
We were outside of Montreal for a South Indian family reunion & we had this restaurant cater multiple meals & snacks. They were able to work with us on a menu & accomodate our food restrictions. The food was delicious & the service was punctual & very friendly! We would highly recommend them!
One of the best South Indian restaurants in Montreal, strongly recommended, we tried Mysor dosa ,masala idly , carrot halwa , & gobi munchrian it was as per our expectations.
Food: Excellent! Authentic taste. Samabar portions are small but taste is okay. Chutneys are delicious.
Service: It was a mess!!! I strongly recommend the restaurant management to hire a professional to streamline the entire operation from taking order to delivering food on time. When I was there from start to finish, it costed me nearly 2 h 45 min, that too after my inititative to pay up & leave. Some customers who got one dish & not other that go with it. Some were waiting for their food to arrive for nearly 1.5 h but still no sign of food. The people making mistakes with charges at the register- due to disorganization. When some error occurs due to wrong input of charges they had to run to call one person to fix the error. It looked like, this one person was handling ordering, serving, & even cooking some of the dishes. My own bill was wrongly charged but they took initiate to fix it. Like these, there were many more operational issues. The restaurant people are nice & patient, but they (manager/owner) should hire a professional to figure out how to make their day-to-day operation efficient. Spend some money to make customers & employees happy, otherwise...
This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. The customer service was extremely poor from the moment we arrived. After waiting over an hour for our food, the wrong dishes were brought to our table, which was incredibly frustrating after such a long wait.
When we tried to address the situation, the manager was unprofessional & avoided speaking with us. Instead of taking responsibility or trying to resolve the issue, he walked away & hid rather than addressing our concerns. That level of customer service is completely unacceptable.
Mistakes can happen, but how a restaurant handles them is what matters. Unfortunately, there was no apology, no accountability, & no effort to make things right. Based on this experience, I would not recommend this restaurant & will not be returning.
Very disappointing experience at Thanjai Restaurant in Montreal.
Our family had a reservation for 10 people at 7:30 p.m., & we arrived on time. We ordered our food right away, but after more than an hour, only two people at our table had received their meals. The remaining eight people were still waiting with no clear explanation.
We had four children with us, & they became hungry, upset, & started crying because of the long delay. We spoke to the manager & explained the situation, but he seemed completely unconcerned & did nothing to improve the service.
Even the samosas we ordered as an appetizer took over an hour to arrive. Meanwhile, customers who came after us were served before our table, which made the experience even more frustrating & unfair.
There was poor communication from the staff, no proper apology, & no effort from management to handle the situation professionally. Eventually, we decided to pay only for the food we had received & leave.
This restaurant is not prepared to handle large groups or families. The service was extremely slow, disorganized, & disrespectful. We left feeling frustrated, disappointed, & embarrassed after planning a family dinner there. I would not recommend this restaurant based on our experience.
Very disappointing experience. The service was extremely disorganized. Our waitress kept bringing the wrong meals to the wrong people, forgot the kids' food, & served the adults first while the children were left waiting. We had a large group, but tables that arrived after us were served before we were. The staff seemed confused the entire time, & the long wait made the experience frustrating. I would not recommend this restaurant based on the poor service.
