About

Sumo Ramen focuses on the preparation of traditional Japanese noodle bowls featuring rich, slow-simmered broths alongside a variety of grilled meat and vegetable selections. The menu highlights authentic ramen craftsmanship, utilizing springy wheat noodles and carefully balanced tare bases to build layers of savory flavor. Guests encounter a straightforward approach to Japanese grill culture where skewers and proteins are seared to achieve optimal texture. The space maintains a functional aesthetic designed to emphasize the speed and precision of the kitchen operation. Every dish adheres to core culinary techniques found in regional Japanese kitchens, prioritizing depth of flavor and quality ingredients in every bowl served. This establishment delivers a consistent experience for those seeking intense, umami-forward ramen recipes paired with charred, high-heat grill offerings in a focused and efficient setting.

Ramen restaurant in the heart of Montreal's chinatown. The ramen broth was ok, the soup was not as thick as what I'm used to. The noodles were like instant noodles texture. However, the beef was delicious! It wasn't the typical ramen meat but more of a Chinese style. The place felt a bit cramped, also there was no AC.

EDIT: Since I'm dumb - the owners were kind enough to tell me that the'expiry date' on the Soju is a sale date from SAQ, rather than an expiration date. So I've deleted that section - thank you!

Yeah .. this one didn't do it for me. Not worth the trek up the stairs.

Right from the start our server was super unfriendly. She barely looked or spoke to us the whole time.

I could typically overlook the crumby service, but the Sumo ramen was ok at best. It was all noodles, no toppings. It desperately needed more seaweed, bean sprouts, anything aside from more noodles. It even could use more broth. The broth itself was fine. The noodles were fine. It was all just OK.

I would try somewhere else. There was nothing special here, unfortunately.
