Dissapointed with my visit. We were a group & went for lunch. The food was good. Service was uneven (forgot my fries, mixed plates). Bread wasn't brought in, had to ask for it. The lunch menu wasn't given to us… had to ask. The guy at front had it in photocopy & was hesitant to give. They gave us all the regular menu, making it feel they wanted us to order the supper menu to get more $$.
I wouldn't go back.Voir plus
We had been there in the past. We found to quality of the steak to be improved over years past. We like the cauliflower bite appetizers, the new york strip & fries were delicious. All steaks were cooked to the correct degree of doneness. Its really nice to be able to bring our own bottle of wine to the meal as well.Voir plus
The service definitely changed. No bread was offered, we needed to ask for it. This restaurant is known for'unlimited fries' no one goes around & offers them anymore. Also, there was a'fire alarm' to the attached building, the staff acted like nothing happened. When I played the online reservation I indicated the reason of our outing, again- the staff wasn't bothered. Won't be going back.Voir plus
I love this restaurant & the atmosphere was pumping & it just had a great vibe & the food was so good. I started with a French onion soup & the broth was so rich & tasty. The soup was just delicious. Of course they had other things on the menu, but I went for the strip steak with fries & green beans. I did have the peppercorn sauce, which was just phenomenal & ended up having to order another pot of it to dip my fries into. The steak was cooked just right & was really really tasty despite eating so much. I did have a dessert which was good also. Great place for a bit of steak!!Voir plus
Best bang for the buck; good steak with fries & it's bring your own wine. Perfect for a supper before an event or a show downtown.Voir plus
Fries were great, steak too. The lighting & ambiance was basically nothing- needs candles badly.Voir plus
The appetizers, bang bang shrimp & calamari were amazing as were the steaks. The French fries were not as good as we have had before, limp & not well seasoned. All of the service staff were great. Very polite, enthusiastic, & smiling!Voir plus
This place is great, & price is reasonable considering also offering unlimited fries.Voir plus
Lively on a Saturday night. The place was pretty full, mostly larger groups, but still some empty tables. We waited 45 mins for our food & when the server finally brought out one of our entrees, steak fries, she mentioned she hopes we don't mind she's bringing it out before the other dishes, but it was sitting under the lamps & she wanted to get it out. Not what we wanted to hear. The other food ordered was only cesar salad, French onion soup & shrimp bang bang. It shouldn't have taken that long. Cesar salad had no flavour, nothing, no taste at all. It was bizarre. Soup was ok. I had been waiting to try it in Montreal & now wouldn't have it again. Bang bang shrimp was ok. Very small portion, even tho it's an appetizer. Steak frites was ok. Medium rare in middle only but over cooked around all around. I'm a French fry fan, but I have never had fries so horrible in my life. All you can eat fries? No thanks, couldn't even eat the ones on my plate.Voir plus
Filet was tasty but undercooked (ordered medium, was sub med rare). Unlimited fries were great & BYOW saves a few bucks. Service was friendly & on point. French onion soup was mostly bread & cheese. Very little broth.Voir plus
Great service. Unfortunately the steak was not cooked as asked & the taste/texture could be better... for the price. Lunch hour steak. This being said, you get all you can eat fries... if you like fries. They're good.Voir plus
When us 3 indigenous ladies walked in, our host met us at the door. & quickly told us, that he didn't serve alcohol. We automatically thought that he was styrotyping us. We quickly told him ,that it was Okey because we didn't drink alcohol. He replied that if we did drink ,that customers are allowed to bring in their own. On a lighter note, the food was awesome! I have never tasted pork chops so good! Sooo soft. ,& he, also made a special gravy for the fries! I would definitely recommend this place! For food wise anyways!Voir plus
Fantastic place to eat. Warm & inviting atmosphere with perfect background music. Not always the way in a lot of restaurants these days. The service was orofessinal, friendly, & impeccable. My friend & i ordered soup & casaer salads, as well as steak & fries. The steak was cooked to perfection. Incredibly tender. We ended our dinner with a profiterole, which we shared. It was quite a bit larger than I expected, so sharing it was perfect as it was the sweet we desired after a perfect meal. Highly recommended.Voir plus
During the dinner the service was fine, at the end we were rushed out , forced to pay right away & get out. The place was still busy & tables were still eating, the resto was half full so not sure why they had to kick us out. They started to push us out around 8:45pm, we were still drinking our wine , it was a office Holiday gathering & was not late. One of the girls even looked frustrated when we finally were practically forced to leave, she was wiping down the table as we got up. Did not feel welcome. .. I had the surf & turf dish, the filet minon was not the same size as the regular 6 oz the others got for the main dish. Green beans on every plate, pretty boring. Fries were the best part of the meal & the mushroom sauce.
In my opinion everything was good. lamb shank was so tender & so yummy 😋😋.Especial thx 🙏to 🌺CAMILLIA served us friendly but professionally. 💜 u can bring your wine 🍷 & if U need fries 🍟 they do with pleasure.Voir plus
Found this place recently & LOVE it. Great steak, unlimited fries & BYOW. What's not to love?Voir plus
Excellent service, pretty solid food. My only complaints are minor (hence 4 stars & not 5): all the knives were surprisingly dull (in a steakhouse!), & my steak has a good bit of fat on it. For comparison's saké, though, my wife's was fine. I do have to commend the waitstaff on their courtesy as well as the other foods. The green beans, French fries & peppercorn sauce were all sublime.
Place was packed when we arrived - always a good sign.
Food cooked to the correct temperatures (steak & tuna), fries are fantastic.
Service friendly & cost was very good value.
Booked to go back in two weeks.
Recommended.
Bit slow to get the bill, but that is a minor issue.
Steak was great. Perfectly cooked & nicely seasoned. Great fries. Beans were pretty decent as well. Service reasonable. A bit loud & kind of hybrid between nice & cafe style.
If u like open & loud, casual ambiance with really good steak, would definitely recommend.
Had a pleasant lunch there. Had the walley & fries. Fries were great. Walley cooked well however a little bland. Good service but waiter refilling water at the end seemed a bit hurried. Water splashed on me & when I looked up, saw him looking in some direction behind me, then ran off, leaving a puddle of water around the glass.
The service at Steak & Frites is always excellent, we often get the same waiter. He was extremely accommodating to us as we were the last the leave the restaurant. The concept of the restaurant, bring your own wine & unlimited fries, is very appealing. The food is always very good, it is a staple restaurant of ours, we love going here as a date or bringing friends.
The steak was very good & tasty. Fries were handcut & the lava cake was the cherry of the dinner. I just wish they serve wine there! We didn't bring our own.
The onion soup was not good at all. Not gratin & lacked taste. Too watery!! Also the dessert crème brûlée was worst I had. Watery texture & tasteless. Waste of my money on these 2 orders. The fries & meat was good though
I am giving a lower rating because of the lack of staff & the consequences. The staff present were attentive & welcoming but it was a while to be able to order & much longer to receive the order. I understand again why but it affects the experience.
The steak was excellent & the vegetables good. The fries were delicate & very good as were the sauces.
Great food! Fries are homemade. Bring your own wine! Servers are friendly.
The restaurant was very busy & yet we got our table right away, service was great & our food was cooked perfectly. I love that we were able to bring our own wine, they gave us a fancy standup ice bucket. The all you can eat fries promo is real & the fries are fresh & real. The sauces they serve with their steak are delicious.
Amazing restaurant! Great location. Waiter was kind, quick & overall fantastic. Food was AMAZING. Au Provre sauce was the best I have ever eaten. Steaks were buttery they were so tender. Fries were delicious & unlimited (we got a refill). Enjoyed the meal so much we even had dessert. Best cheesecake filling I have ever tasted. Will absolutely return whenever I am in Montreal, it is a must eat.
Robin, our server, was terrific. He constantly monitored our table & filled our water glasses. He was extremely friendly & courteous. The steaks my dining companion & I ordered, the classic macreuse comprising the "steak & frites" selection, were tender, juicy & cooked to the proper degree we had requested. The lobster tail, was alright, not stupendous, but we found the garlic butter rather acidic. I've not experienced that before. The "bang bang" shrimp were also alright, smallish, breaded & fried. The piquant mayonnaise accompanying them was very good. The fries were so-so. They tasted best when they were piping hot, but after a few minutes became limp & rather sweet tasting, something that usually occurs when the potatoes have been refrigerated a bit too long. The green beans that also came with the steaks, however, were excellent. Not overcooked & with some fresh crispness to their texture. The black peppercorn sauce, the dijonnaise sauce & the mayonnaise requested for the fries were all too acidic for our tastes. It seemed as though lemon juice had been used to enhance the flavor, but rather had the opposite effect. The Tiramisu, for dessert, was rather ordinary, not dissimilar to the kind one can buy from the supermarket freezer. That being said, I would return for the steak & green beans, but perhaps bring my own mayonnaise for the fries & rely on salt & pepper as seasoning rather than any of the sauces. The value proposition here is the reasonable pricing & the "bring your own bottle" policy. Having Robin as the server will also enhance one's visit.
This was our second experience at Steak Frites. First was in Laval. At times the quality & service may change but we were not disappointed. Same exceptional quality. Bang Bang Shrimps were delightful as was the presentation.
Filet Mignon was also cooked to perfection but presentation needed a little more attention. Vegetables were mixed within the mountain of fries which were tasteful nevertheless.
The service was courteous & attentive.
Prices were reasonable.
Will definitely go back.
