We did order vegetarian though & they forgot to mark it as such & brought half meat out. They were very apologetic but you will want to confirm they write it down.
Definitely one of our favorite Montreal restaurants now. My wife & I did some research before we return this year & found many recommendations for Stash & we were not disappointed.
We didn't make reservations, but thankfully it was a weeknight & we were able to get in. Love the piano player for the added ambience.
We tried a little bit of almost everything & everything was perfect. This will definitely be a highlight to our trips in the future to Montreal & we recommend anyone trying it out.
Side note: We went to another restaurant a few days later & during a conversation with the chef there they recommended it as their favorite restaurant in Montreal before we even mentioned we had been there.
Definitely one of my favorite places in Montreal! The ambiance & decor is vintage chic - which is so nice! &, I love how there's live piano.
The food is exquisite & at a decent price. I was blown away by the stroganoff & the sledz. The drinks are also great!
Such a lovely dining experience with authentic Polish cuisine! My hubby & I walked in w/o a reservation on a Saturday evening in March at 8:30pm. Despite still being full, we were seated right away at a cozy window table. Upon walking in, you are greeted with wonderful live music from a very talented piano player right at the entrance. The restaurant is warm & cozy with a red light district vibe with the red lampshades on all the lights. Lovely beamed ceilings & church pew bench seats with a long bar on the side. Our waitress was great, professional, & courteous. We ordered perogies, schnitzel, among other Polish dishes, & yummy cocktails. We thoroughly enjoyed each dish & the entire evening. We loved the perogies so much that instead of ordering dessert, we ordered another 8 mushroom perogies to go! I HIGHLY recommend for some authentic Polish cuisine!
My wife is from Poland & she felt back at home with the pierogi & kielbasa flavours! Great food & love piano. A Polish staple for Montreal
I had a great time at Stash Café on Saturday, April 5th, celebrating a friend's birthday with a group of nine. The decor felt straight out of a Wes Anderson movie or an old-school train cabin-super charming & nostalgic. The food was decent, but what really stood out for me were the drinks-especially the pickle martini, which was a hit. They even made us a plate of pickles upon request, even though it wasn't on the menu, which was a really nice touch.
Overall, the vibe was lovely & we were having a great time-until our interaction with our server, which unfortunately didn't match the rest of the experience. She approached our table without a greeting & bluntly asked,'What do you want to drink?' It felt a bit off-putting right from the start. Then, before even offering dessert, she told us she needed to make sure we were leaving soon. This caught us off guard, as we were still ordering drinks & planning to enjoy coffee & dessert.
It felt like we were being rushed out, though the restaurant didn't appear to be full-there was no one waiting at the door when we checked. She also entered the wrong payment amount for one of our friends, & when he pointed it out, she implied that he hadn't paid her in full, which wasn't the case. It turned into an awkward exchange. After we left, we all realized she had been cold or distant with everyone at the table-not just a one-off moment.
On the bright side, the bartender who brought us our drinks was incredibly kind & all smiles-he really added warmth to our night.
Just a heads-up: the bathroom is located upstairs, so it might be a bit tricky if you have mobility issues. I was in a boot & using a cane at the time, & navigating the stairs wasn't the easiest. Getting around the table was also a bit of a challenge.
All in all, it was a fun night with great company & unique drinks, but the service unfortunately took away from what could have been an excellent experience.
As a Polish person myself, I can confidently say that this is the best spot for Polish food in all of Canada. I haven't food like this since I was back in Poland. The service is top notch & the live music with inside scenery makes for an excellent experience!
Food & drinks are absolutely amazing. Real authentic polish food! Will be back.
Their potato pancakes were to die for. The pianist was playing too & it was lovely.
Belle découverte dans le vieux port les perrogie sont délicieux.
Lovely restaurant! Live piano & ambiance was lovely, & the food was delicious. Very aware of celiac / gluten free & have lots of options, including their schnitzels!
Cute place with live piano. Attentive service. Great food. If you want to sample a variety of Polish dishes, debutant is a good choice. Sznycel wiedenski & sznycel mielony are both good. Also their beer tastes great. The apple cobbler is a little milder than I expected but still tasty.
This is our favourite restaurant in Old Montreal, we simply always have to go whenever we visit. The 3 course menu is always our go-to. The atmosphere alone could make this restaurant a must-see but the authentic food & hospitality is what keeps us coming back.
Just happened upon this restaurant with my wife & two good friends. We had a very traditional Polish meal & everything was fantastic. The Apple cobbler is the best I've ever had. The staff were super friendly & the price is reasonable. I'm sorry I don't live here because I would eat in this restaurant all the time.
Dinner on Friday night.
Lunch on Saturday.
(It was that good.)
If you love Eastern European cuisine, this is your place.
We tried:
Dill soup. Latkes. Perogies. Cabbage rolls. Breaded chicken. Sauerkraut. Beet salad. Everything 💯
Can't say enough abt this place. Food. Atmosphere. Cozy dining room. (Live piano player)
Would be wise to make a reservation.
Visited a couple of days ago. There were two of us, & I asked to sit at a four-person table in an almost empty restaurant. They refused, stating that larger tables were only for bigger groups. However, as we were leaving, I noticed three other couples seated at the very tables I had requested, even though the restaurant was still half-empty.
This is not the right way to treat customers, especially on a first visit. First & last.
