We had a fantastic culinary experience at Café Stash & would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for comforting, authentic Polish cuisine in old Montreal.
The atmosphere immediately stood out - warm wooden tables, cozy bench seating, & those iconic red hanging lamps that give the dining room a lively but intimate feel. A live piano player during dinner added a wonderful touch & made the whole evening feel special without being overwhelming.
Food-wise, everything delivered. The beef stroganoff was rich & deeply flavorful, perfectly paired with crispy potato pancakes. The kielbasa was juicy & nicely grilled, served with tangy sauerkraut & mustard that balanced the dish beautifully. The breaded pork cutlet was classic comfort food done right.
Both soups were highlights: the pickle soup was surprisingly bright & addictive, while the mushroom soup was earthy & satisfying. Desserts - apple & peach cobblers - were excellent, pleasantly flavoured & not overly sweet.
Drinks were equally enjoyable. The cocktails were solid, & the raspberry & tobacco vodka shots were memorable & fun.
Great food, lively ambiance, & genuine hospitality - Café Stash is an easy recommendation.
I was so impressed with this restaurant during a visit on a Friday for lunch (only day M-F that they serve lunch). I had visited Poland earlier this year & really enjoyed the pierogis & other items. This cozy restaurant was so true to Polish cuisine that I'll return in March when I visit Montreal next. I overdid it in order to try pierogis (they have a mixed platter of 4 total with each filling represented), golubki (stuffed cabbage), dessert, an excellent rioja, & finally a shot of vodka. The pianist was a fantastic touch for lunch. Don't let my spend scare you. I had everything & 3 glasses of wine. You could probably get out for less per person.
A great cozy spot for amazing tasting Polish food. Very much worth the wait!
Definitely add this to your list. The ambience was quite cozy & romantic. They had a pianist playing music & it was a the right level. We tried the mixed perogis, crepe, & the potato pancake. The food was absolutely delicious & we will definitely be coming back.
Every time I'm in Montreal, Stash Café is my dinner place - without question. We just went three nights in a row, & I still couldn't get enough. I could honestly go a fourth.
This place feels like a warm hug the second you walk in. The food is pure comfort - hearty, rich, & absolutely delicious. & the best part? There was nothing bad on the menu that I've tried. Every dish has been a hit, each one better than the last.
The vibe is fantastic - cozy & full of soul, especially with the live piano player creating the perfect ambiance (& yes, make sure to tip - it's part of the magic!). This is easily one of my favourite spots in Montreal, especially on a cold winter evening when it truly warms your soul.
The experience is made even better by the incredible staff. The servers are always polite, smiling, & genuinely kind - warm service that matches the restaurant's atmosphere. It makes you want to stay longer, order more, & come back tomorrow… which we did.
If it's your first time, trust me & go for the pierogies & the mixed platter - the best way to try a bit of everything. Also - don't skip dessert. The desserts are just as delicious as the mains, perfectly sweet, comforting, & unforgettable.
Authentic. Soul-warming. Addictive.
Highly recommend - just be warned, you might end up going three nights in a row too.
Already dreaming about my next plate of pierogies… & dessert. 🥟🎹🍰
My hubby's favorite place for cabbage rolls. I love the debutant dish that has a variety of foods.. the ambiance is cozy with live piano music… it's always consistently delicious & we save this for very special occasions or when we have guests coming from out of town who want to explore old Montreal & try Polish food (something different)
Love their apple cobbler & service is always on point. Highly recommended!
Had a great time at Stash Café with my party of four. We all had different options from the table d'hôte & everyone was satisfied.
There was a little bit of a mix-up with the reservation at the start but the staff were more than accommodating & made sure that everything worked out.
This is the second time I've gone in around two years & I only have good things to say. This is the place to go if you want try try traditional Polish food in a cozy environment.
L'ambiance, comme mentionné précédemment si vous aimez le piano live, les vieilles bâtisses du vieux Montréal à grandes fenêtres, chandelles tamisées à ambiance cosy cuisine réconfortante, this place is made for you.
Wow this place is magic. The vibe is cozy & comforting, just like their grub. I got the dish with a little of everything on it - & I could have easily downed a lot of everything I tried. Kudos to the chef. The food is divine.
Overall a delicious & memorable dinner out! The food was wow, the service was efficient & friendly, the atmosphere was intimate & cozy with a bohemian spirit. & the piano player was incredible & playful with the tunes he played, which added so much energy & vibe. It was a meal to remember & an experience to remember. Will definitely recommend & go back!
Loved this spot! The atmosphere was amazing. A cozy inside with even cozier food. Our server was so nice. Overall, just an incredible experience. Highly recommend & I'll definitely be back!
Restaurant absolument délicieux! La cuisine est authentique & goûteuse, que dire de l'ambiance cozy. Prix plus qu'abordable. Je recommande le menu débutant pour goûter au plus de mets possible !!!
Delicious food, cozy atmosphere.
Best perogies I've ever had.
Must try the potato pancakes!
Pictures of beef stroganoff & chicken escalope, teens loves it.
Such a lovely dining experience with authentic Polish cuisine! My hubby & I walked in w/o a reservation on a Saturday evening in March at 8:30pm. Despite still being full, we were seated right away at a cozy window table. Upon walking in, you are greeted with wonderful live music from a very talented piano player right at the entrance. The restaurant is warm & cozy with a red light district vibe with the red lampshades on all the lights. Lovely beamed ceilings & church pew bench seats with a long bar on the side. Our waitress was great, professional, & courteous. We ordered perogies, schnitzel, among other Polish dishes, & yummy cocktails. We thoroughly enjoyed each dish & the entire evening. We loved the perogies so much that instead of ordering dessert, we ordered another 8 mushroom perogies to go! I HIGHLY recommend for some authentic Polish cuisine!
Dinner on Friday night.
Lunch on Saturday.
(It was that good.)
If you love Eastern European cuisine, this is your place.
We tried:
Dill soup. Latkes. Perogies. Cabbage rolls. Breaded chicken. Sauerkraut. Beet salad. Everything 💯
Can't say enough abt this place. Food. Atmosphere. Cozy dining room. (Live piano player)
Would be wise to make a reservation.
What a surprise this spot was! We had never eaten Polish food before & boy have we been missing out. The food was great! Our server was super nice & helped us get the best food for our first time. We left stuffed & happy. Loved the cabbage & mushroom pierogis plus the potato pancakes along with the barszcz (beet soup) make sure to add the mushroom dumplings. The sauerkraut is warm & so so delicious. The piano player is phenomenal & plays covers of popular songs. The ambiance is kitschy & cozy. Make reservations or go early because this place is popular. A must when in Montreal.
I loved Stash Cafe, the atmosphere was super unique & cozy. They have created the perfect environment to enjoy hearty comforting meals. The pricing & portions was very good value for the overall experience. I will definitely be returning.
Highlights: Cabbage rolls were super tender, flavourful, & the right amount of meat.
The warm sauerkraut goes perfectly with the pork schnitzel.
The potatoes were so fluffy too & everything was seasoned nicely nothing was bland in the slightest.
Bonus points for the subtle live music from the pianist.
Cozy, comfortable & very welcoming, from the quality & quantity of food to the warmth of the staff, it's a great place for a meal with friends or family, or at the bar if you're on your own. & the piano player has been playing there for 28 years! Say hi - he's very friendly & keeps playing while you chat!
Amazingly delicious place!! Warm & cozy! We loved the Dill Pickle soup & the beet consume with the mushroom tortellini. We tried the sampler platter & it was fantastic! We are planning to come back for dinner!!! Definitely worth the effort to eat here. The service was friendly & efficient & everyone was so nice!
