Last weekend I had the bigos again, that slow-cooked hunter's stew, & it was exactly as hearty & comforting as I remembered it. The staff recognized me from previous visits & brought out a little extra bread without me even asking, which is the kind of small thing that keeps regulars coming back. If you have not been yet & you want a genuinely warm, no-fuss meal in the Old Port area, this is the place.
Third time at Stash Café...crazy busy Thursday night on a chilly May evening in Old Montreal. Place was packed, pianist playing tunes, warm atmosphere...our waiter Marco made us feel as though we were guests in someone's home. The service was fast but not rushed, warm but not pressing, the food was so tasty that our four-top ordered seconds. I couldn't ask for a better evening out with plump perogis, juicy sausages with tangy sauerkraut...so glad we decided to walk home to burn off some of those delectable calories!
This has to be my favourite meal I've had in my 8 months of living in Montreal. Stash Cafe had been on my bucket list for months, but due to the busy schedule & shallow pockets of a student like myself, I had to put off making the trip to Old Montreal for a while.
First of all, the restaurant itself is gorgeous. The ambiance is perfect with the soft piano & all the wonderful art to admire.
The beef pierogis were so flavourful & paired perfectly with the peppery sauerkraut & sour cream. Exactly what I needed today after finals. I tried both desserts, & while I felt the apple cobbler was a bit lacking (too much crust/not enough apples, & I felt like it should have been served warm instead of cold), the sweet cheese crepe was life changing. I could have drank a bucket of the raspberry coulis mixed with the sweet cream.
Our server was very friendly, the food came extremely fast after ordering, & the meal wasn't even that expensive! Two main courses & 2 desserts for $56 is extremely reasonable for this level of quality & deliciousness. I'll be returning the first chance I get after summer break!
Growing up Polish, we always celebrated holidays with traditional Polish cuisine. My mom would also pick times to make trays of go??bki, or pierogi.
As a child, I didn't really enjoy it that much, but as I got older, I more appropriately understood the comforting value of Polish cuisine.
On a recent trip to Montreal, we visited Stash Cafe, & it was like I was teleported to my childhood, surrounded by happy people serving comforting Polish cuisine.
They have all the dishes you would expect, & they are all uperb. I went with a cheeky order of go??bki plus a kielbasa dish (because I had to try both). My wife had a veal cutlet, my daughter had bigos, & it was all terrific.
Five stars to the team at Stash Cafe, I cannot wait to return. Montreal continues to exceed expectations with the culinary scene, & Stash Cafe took it to new level for me personally!
Thank you for worst service possible.
As from'We would need this table in a hour' to endless waiting time at the'table they will need'. Staff not doing anything , looking at each other or phone.
I'd like to give advice to the staff members to service more positive than side eyeing every table. We caught a waiter squinting at customers while taking an order & we were like.. wow.
Famous borscht without any meat & with vinegar taste, with this recipe Cafe automatically can consider removing this dish from menu. If you're gonna tell me that it's'beet broth' maybe don't call it a borscht.
The food at Stash Café was delicious with great sized portions that kept you full! We ordered the zurek, debutant, strogonow, croustade, & a latte. I highly recommend getting a reservation if you're going on a Friday or Saturday as there can be a long wait, but it's totally worth it.
We loved the Stash Cafe! The food was so great. We had the side salad, potato pancakes & perogies. I also tried my first Polish beer. The live piano music enhanced the experience. I would definitely recommend it!
We had a fantastic culinary experience at Café Stash & would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for comforting, authentic Polish cuisine in old Montreal.
The atmosphere immediately stood out - warm wooden tables, cozy bench seating, & those iconic red hanging lamps that give the dining room a lively but intimate feel. A live piano player during dinner added a wonderful touch & made the whole evening feel special without being overwhelming.
Food-wise, everything delivered. The beef stroganoff was rich & deeply flavorful, perfectly paired with crispy potato pancakes. The kielbasa was juicy & nicely grilled, served with tangy sauerkraut & mustard that balanced the dish beautifully. The breaded pork cutlet was classic comfort food done right.
Both soups were highlights: the pickle soup was surprisingly bright & addictive, while the mushroom soup was earthy & satisfying. Desserts - apple & peach cobblers - were excellent, pleasantly flavoured & not overly sweet.
Drinks were equally enjoyable. The cocktails were solid, & the raspberry & tobacco vodka shots were memorable & fun.
Great food, lively ambiance, & genuine hospitality - Café Stash is an easy recommendation.
Bonjour,
