About

Stash Café serves traditional Polish cuisine within an interior defined by exposed brick walls, dark wood accents, and an intimate, rustic atmosphere. The kitchen specializes in authentic staples such as handcrafted pierogi filled with various savory stuffings, hearty cabbage rolls, and rich, vinegar-forward borscht. These dishes emphasize robust flavors and traditional preparation methods that mirror historical Eastern European culinary practices. The menu features an array of sausages and comfort-focused platters designed to provide a substantial experience for those seeking classic regional fare. Patrons occupy tables set amidst a collection of vintage decor elements that contribute to a distinct, storied setting. Every plate reflects a commitment to preserving the integrity of Polish recipes through careful sourcing and preparation, ensuring that each component contributes to the overall cohesion of the meal.

Review Summary

Stash Café is widely celebrated as a premier destination for authentic, comforting Polish cuisine in the heart of Old Montreal. Guests frequently praise the hearty, homemade quality of traditional dishes like pierogies, schnitzel, and beef stroganoff, often highlighting the variety offered by the popular debutant platter. The restaurant is renowned for its cozy, intimate atmosphere, characterized by dim lighting, rustic wooden decor, and the consistent presence of talented live piano music that enhances the overall dining experience. While the establishment is exceptionally popular and often requires reservations, most visitors find the welcoming service, reasonable pricing, and genuine hospitality to be well worth the visit, making it a beloved staple for both locals and tourists alike.

It was my first time having Polish food at a restaurant. Surprisingly it was very delicious--who knew simple food like Perogies could be packed with flavor? Atmosphere & service were excellent as well. I'll be back.

Ate here in two different nights. Weekends are definitely busier, recommending to have reservations. Great flavors in their dishes & the staffs were friendly & hospitable.

Great dinner with live piano. Polish food was solid. We had the schnitzel & sole for mains. Ambiance was busy but not crowded. Good value.

You write that you are a restaurant of Polish cuisine. I chose between Borscht & Zhurek, I chose Zhurek (because I can cook Borscht myself). What can I say about your Zhurek - people, don't be lazy & don't deceive others, because it's not Zhurek, but just coloured water with sausages. & where are the eggs & mushrooms? Some even serve it with mashed potatoes (it's a bomb!). The Poles treated me to Zhurek & I was delighted. & many people know that Polish cuisine is quite hearty, saturated with mega large portions. It's scary to imagine, but at the same time it's interesting, what kind of Ukrainian Borscht do you have? I also ordered dumplings (Pierogi), mix. I must note that the dumplings (Pierogi) were delicious.

Everything is great about this place! Starting with food & finishing with the atmosphere. I especially recommend it to people who like Slavic food. Order "Debutant" because it is a mix of almost everything on the menu.

Easily the best meal we had during our visit to Montreal, I would come back to the city just for the ogorkowa soup. It's hard to find good Polish food & this was top tier!
