About

St-Viateur Bagel defines the authentic Montreal-style bagel experience through a traditional wood-fired baking process. Each bagel features a dense, chewy interior contrasted by a golden, blistered crust achieved through immersion in honey-infused boiling water before entering the furnace. Hand-rolled dough circles undergo meticulous preparation to ensure consistent texture and size. The signature sesame and poppy seed varieties remain the standard bearers of this specialized culinary craft. Patrons encounter the distinct aroma of maple wood smoke that permeates the entire workspace during production. This establishment prioritizes long-standing artisanal techniques that elevate simple flour and water into a staple of the city identity. The operation relies on manual labor to maintain the specific structural integrity expected by dedicated enthusiasts of these boiled and baked rings of dough.

I think this location is the original location because it has the brick oven. But this location sells its spreads differently & a few blocks away from this location sells the bagels with the spread on & other bagel varieties.
This locations line was long but moved very quickly. It was about a 15 minute wait. Got one sesame bagel & one everything bagel. I think the sesame bagel was worth getting because it was hot & tasted very good on its own without cream cheese spread. The everything bagel was cold, & it didn't taste as good.
They sell individually packaged cream cheeses for $1 CAD, & they have other spreads & smoked salmons in the fridge. They also have merch available to purchase.
It is not cash only, they take card.

My goodness. The perfect lazy woman's schmear is a warm St-Viateur bagel dipped in smoked salmon spread. Take it from me, who was shown the way & the light by a Montreal local.

There really is no question that St Viateur is probably the best bagel in the world. This is especially true when you get it fresh from the oven. The smoked salmon spread they carry is also the best we've ever had, a deserving accompaniment to the bagel. Don't worry if you see a lineup outside the door, sometimes going all the way down the street. It is worth the wait which isn't very long anyway. This place is a must try.

We tried the famous St-Viateur Bagels for our breakfast. There was a queue & we had to wait for around 15 minutes. Please note that they do not have the bagel sandwiches at this location. You have to go to their other location for the bagel sandwiches. They only accept debit card or cash.

We ordered their sesame bagels, spice everything, all dressed & blueberry bagel. The sesame bagel was the softest & the best in my opinion. Then comes the spice everything & all dressed bagels. The blueberry one was hard & not that good. You can buy the cheese spreads. They give you the disposable knife. You have to spread it on your own.

If you're in Montreal, do not skip on these bagels.

The BEST & ONLY authentic bagels in the world. Poppy seed, sesame seed, cinnamon raisin bagel, pretzels & salmon/products spread & stuff. Traditional hot stone oven. Oh how I miss you.

This is the original location. This is the place to come to get hot bagels, maybe something to put on them & merch. They now accept credit cards. This isn't a cafe, for that go to their Avenue Mount Royal location. If there's a long line, you can go to their'backup' location a couple blocks east on St Viateur. The backup is still cash only & while they do have spreads & merch, it's really focused on the bagels.
This original location has some interesting articles & a pair of very rare limited St Viateur bagel Nike dunk lows.

It's worth getting whatever flavor is coming out of the oven hot, most frequently sesame. The warmth & chewy texture of a fresh St Viateur bagel is why you're here.

263 St-Viateur: the original (credit card, fresh bagels, spreads, merch, mini museum, a fast moving line)

158 St-Viateur: the back-up (fresh bagels, less likely a line, cash only, merch, spreads)

1127 Avenue Mont-Royal: the cafe whith tables & chairs, where you can order a bagel to be made for you.

When we're ever in Montreal, we have to make a stop for St. Viateur Bagels! The shop sits along the 80 Avenue du Parc North bus line & is just a minute from the bus stop, making it easy to reach by public transit. It operates as a grab-&-go storefront with no seating. If you don't have cash, an ATM is located near the entrance. Our friends & family love St. Viateur Bagels & can't wait to come back again to make a large pick up when we are ever in the area!

Their bagel selection sticks to the basics & expands into a broader range, including the classic Sesame, Poppy, & Plain, alongside more varied options like All Dressed, Cinnamon & Raisin, Rosemary & Sea Salt, Whole Wheat, Blueberry, & Pumpernickel. The pricing is available per single, half dozen, or full dozen, which helps us plan quantities for take-home consumption. Their bagels are constantly made fresh, & the store can get really busy, being so popular with long lines at different times throughout the day.

The store also offers merchandise such as t-shirts, tote bags, bagel chips, oils, all-dressed seasoning, pucks, & mugs, as well as refrigerated items like spreads & dairy products. The packaging provided for bagels is a brown paper bag, but they offer plastic bags for storage afterwards. The staff suggests slicing the bagels in half before freezing to preserve freshness. Lastly, make sure to bring a bag to carry it all home!
