Sota BBQ Coréen centers its culinary focus on the interactive tradition of table-side grilling, where patrons sear high-quality cuts of marinated beef, pork, and seafood over live flames. The menu highlights classic staples including thinly sliced bulgogi, spicy pork belly, and tender galbi, accompanied by a diverse array of house-made banchan side dishes. Each meal incorporates the essential elements of fermentation and spice, utilizing traditional preparations like kimchi and soybean paste to anchor the flavor profiles. The seating arrangement facilitates groups, featuring built-in ventilation systems designed to manage the smoke generated during the cooking process. Patrons engage directly with the heat source, managing the texture and char of their selections to their specific preference. This hands-on approach defines the technical execution and the structural rhythm of the entire dining sequence within the space.

So first time here, we are from Niagara Falls. Mind you we have about 3 of these types of establishments in Niagara & they are all top notch, from food to service to atmosphere.
We arrive on time for our reservation, we are escorted not to the main floor but around the corner where we see the signs for the washrooms....ok ok lets see what's going on lol. They take us past the washrooms & then down stairs into another section of the restaurant & we were like ok ok this is nice.
Server comes over & drops a pitcher of ice water on the table, then says by the way limits is 2hrs & walks away. Leaves no glasses to use, no plates. No utensils & no tongs to use on our raw food to cook.
We figure out on our own that we need to scan a QR code & use that to place the order we want to grill....we manage to get someone else's attention & get all the missing items.
So we place our orders, & it takes almost 30min before any of our food arrived to cook. Mind you we have a 2hr time limit. So 30min gone....sushi shows up, but we didn't get any of the meat we ordered until around 45min in.
Food was mediocre at best, like a 5 out of 10.
Also about a quarter of the itmes we did order, never made it to our table. Not sure what happened there.
When we finally decided to pay & leave vetoed the same server who first sat us....about 20min went by & no one came to collect payment. We had to wave down a female employee.
She comes back about 5min later with a machine....presents the bill, then says oh by the way the TIP is already included in the total....uh ok, we were a table of 4....they decided to give themselves a $28 tip.
Then I put my card in (debit) to pay, she say oh we only accept cash or credit cards, wow ok....I said thats not on your website at all, & you never said that when we came in, she says we have a sign on the front door....yes, but if your website was honest about it I wouldn't have made the reservations lol
So we had to move money around to one of my wife's CC & pay.
All in all a horrible experience, we come to Montreal twice a year & will not be going to this place again.
$228 for 4 people lol soooooooo not worth it for this crap.
I was excited to come here to try the BBQ ans the sushi but was quite disappointed. A few things in the menu were not available (mushrooms, salad,…) & there was no salmon sashimi nor shrimp tempura on the menu. The sushi was of very low quality. I don't recommend. As for the BBQ, there was a nice selection of meat. I recommend the ox tongue. Well-marinated & very tender. Once again, this place is not authentic Korean so no ssamjang. They have sichuan pepper & soy sauce… The radish side dish was excellent but the kimchi was a bit too sweet. Service here is very quick. As soon as you order, they bring it to the table & also retrieve the trays & dishes fast.
