About

Sota BBQ Coréen centers its culinary focus on the interactive tradition of table-side grilling, where patrons sear high-quality cuts of marinated beef, pork, and seafood over live flames. The menu highlights classic staples including thinly sliced bulgogi, spicy pork belly, and tender galbi, accompanied by a diverse array of house-made banchan side dishes. Each meal incorporates the essential elements of fermentation and spice, utilizing traditional preparations like kimchi and soybean paste to anchor the flavor profiles. The seating arrangement facilitates groups, featuring built-in ventilation systems designed to manage the smoke generated during the cooking process. Patrons engage directly with the heat source, managing the texture and char of their selections to their specific preference. This hands-on approach defines the technical execution and the structural rhythm of the entire dining sequence within the space.

Review Summary

Reviews for Sota BBQ Coréen are deeply polarized, highlighting a mix of highly satisfying and frustrating experiences. Many patrons praise the restaurant for its fresh, flavorful meat selection, diverse all-you-can-eat options, and generally pleasant atmosphere, often noting that the service can be impressively fast and the staff very welcoming. Conversely, a significant number of diners express dissatisfaction regarding inconsistent service, ranging from disorganized order management and missing food items to unprofessional behavior from staff regarding gratuity and closing times. While many find it a great spot for group gatherings and good value, others report issues with language barriers, confusing billing practices, and declining food quality, leading to a divide between loyal customers who see it as a staple and those who feel discouraged from returning.

We came in with moderate expectations, based on the portable fans placed at the door to circulate air through the restaurant & our experiences in other AYCE establishments. We were very pleasantly surprised. There were lots of different options & a variety of cuts in meat, & a good number of available sides. The servers brought out what we ordered, unlike many other places that will'forget' some items. The meat was well seasoned & was decent quality for the price. Overall, worth a visit if you're craving meat!

I was excited to come here to try the BBQ ans the sushi but was quite disappointed. A few things in the menu were not available (mushrooms, salad,…) & there was no salmon sashimi nor shrimp tempura on the menu. The sushi was of very low quality. I don't recommend. As for the BBQ, there was a nice selection of meat. I recommend the ox tongue. Well-marinated & very tender. Once again, this place is not authentic Korean so no ssamjang. They have sichuan pepper & soy sauce… The radish side dish was excellent but the kimchi was a bit too sweet. Service here is very quick. As soon as you order, they bring it to the table & also retrieve the trays & dishes fast.

I had a great expérience. The food is honestly one of the best I've had in Montreal-everything was fresh, flavorful, & well-prepared. You can really taste the quality. The only small downside was the service, which was a bit slow at times. However, the staff were still friendly & polite, so it didn't ruin the overall experience.

I would definitely come back again for the amazing food!

Sushi was bland & didn't have many options. The waiter was struggling to speak clearly. Overall the quality of the food was just not there.

Ever since Seoul Chako closed, this spot has become my go-to for all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ in Montreal. The quality is consistently great, & the bonus is that they offer sushi as well, perfect for us because my husband is obsessed with sushi.

I also really appreciate how well-ventilated the dining area is. Indoor BBQ spots often struggle with smoke, but they've mastered the balance here. You can actually enjoy your meal without smelling like a grill afterward.

Highly recommend! this place never disappoints (I've been 5x with family & friends)
