Here you will discover a traditional Japanese specialty known has Shabu Shabu The origins of Shabu Shabu cooking date back many years, where families gathered around a large hot pot for their evening meal. Shabu Shabu means splash-splash. The customers receive thin slices of raw meat and vegetables, which they cook quickly in a pot of boiling water. These are dipped in a sesame sauce or ponzu sauce (soy based sauce). After the meal, the remaining broth is used as a soup for noodle or rice. Today, the freshest meat and seafood available, delicious Japanese sauces and a bowl of rice is all that's needed for a classic Shabu Shabu meal and Kagayaki is the place to experience what Shabu Shabu is all about. Along with great food, Kagayaki offers a great friendly atmosphere, traditional decor and great fun whether you are with a group of friends, family or in couple. Great place to celebrate any type of small dinner parties. No one does Shabu Shabu Kagayaki style!
Shabu Shabu Kagayaki stands out for fresh vegetables and high quality meats, versatile broth choices, and generous portions that combine with a quick, friendly service and a welcoming, lively ambiance; the overall experience is described as consistently satisfying with attentive staff, helpful explanations, and good value, though a few visits note slower service during busy times and a broth that may be a bit salty or portions that feel smaller at first glance.
We paid around $200 but the overall experience did not justify the price.
The food was underwhelming. The'chef special' spicy broth was particularly disappointing - it tasted like diluted Korean soybean paste with little depth or seasoning. As for the meat, only the wagyu was decent; the rest of the beef cuts were not enjoyable.
One health concern: the egg served for sukiyaki was not pasteurized. When I asked, the server confirmed it was a regular raw egg & said'everyone eats it this way.' However, in Canada, eggs are not generally considered safe for raw consumption, unlike in Japan where handling standards differ. A clearer notice or pasteurized option would be more appropriate.
Dessert (matcha mochi with red bean filling) tasted good, but the texture was odd - warm outside & cold inside. Feels like they just took out of the fridge & didn't cook it through..
Overall, the experience felt average at best, but priced at a premium. Not worth it & will NOT come back. There are so many other nice places in montreal, skip this one.
I've been going there for more than a decade, but it's become overpriced for what you get-especially since the menu change. I understand raising prices, but cutting portion sizes at the same time-mainly vegetables, & even removing rice from the combo-just doesn't make sense. Why spend $60 for so little when $60 gets you an all-you-can-eat hot pot? Overall, it's still a good spot-the ambiance & staff are great-but it's not worth it anymore.

I was suprised to see that owner sat on the table while customer was eating.
It's NEVER happen if this japanese shabushabu restaurant was managed by a japanese owner.
We are wondering why tha google review is this much high...
Beef was delicious but I don't think quantity is enough, As I am a japanese, of course I know shabu shabu is a kind of luxuary food but for the price,there are tons of restaurants offer much more enough amount of food for the customer.
A japanese waitress treated us very well ,I am happy that she shows japanese traditional behavior.
Food is excellent but one of the heater for the broth was lagging at times. Service was a bit slow, we waited a considerable amount of time for each dish, but the place was full.
Excellent! Freshness of veggies was remarkable, the meat perfectly sliced for easy cooking, & the saki sampler highly recommended. Definitely worth every penny !
Really good & fresh food.
I got the combo with beef. It comes with a generous plate of veggies. Side of tofu, rice cakes, rice & sauces. You have a choice of noodles, I got udon noodles. The combo also comes with a dessert.
The service is quick & very friendly. The price is on point for what you get. Highly recommend. Will definitely go back

Une expérience culinaire tout à fait original sous une ambianze jazz au couleurs orientales. Une dynamique interessante & adapatée pour la romance ou une soirée entre amis.
Le service était rapide sans reproche. La cuisine était très bonne & le menu varié.
La petite dame avec des lunettes a été très gentille & accueillante avec moi , surtout le service il était rapide , simple , efficace & la serveuse aussi était gentille , j'ai pu discuter avec elle en japonais & ça été une expérience gratifiante , je reviendrai là bas !
1ère expérience dans ce domaine culinaire, rien à dire, c était bon, la personne qui m'a reçu & accueilli a été en plus d être pro très sympa. Rien à dire, l ambiance, il n'y pouvait rien, un jeudi soir de début février...

Première fois s'était vraiment bon. Je n'étais pas familière avec se genre de resto, ça ma vraiment sortie de ma zone de confort mais dans le bon sens. Le service était vraiment exceptionnel, les gens sont tellement accueillant & chaleureux ! Je recommande vraiment
Ça fait plus de dix ans que je vais à ce resto & ça reste un de mes préférés !! Tout est tellement bon & je repars toujours avec un reste de soupe pour le lendemain midi. Les légumes sont vraiment frais, la viande d'excellente qualité, & le café est un des meilleurs que j'ai bu. Les employés sont toujours super gentils. Je recommande
Nous sommes allé essayer ce restaurant ma copine & moi! C'était une première expérience pour nous & nous avons adoré! La nourriture était excellente, l'ambiance chaleureuse & le service impeccable! La serveuse a bien pris la peine de nous expliquer comment ça fonctionnait! Je recommande sans réserve!
First time experiencing this, loved every second of it. La bouffe est excellente, le cher monsieur est super cool, gentil & il te démontre quoi faire si t'es pas certain.
We were there on a Tuesday night, so it was very quiet, weekend might be different. No wait for a table. Very friendly & helpful service. The food was amazing, I ate so much! Broth flavourful & the meats were very good. Highly recommend it!
