We went for Valentine's Day & overall had a decent experience. The set menu was very reasonably priced, especially for the occasion, & the service was good. A special shoutout to the woman who stepped in on what was clearly a busy night, she was warm, attentive, & great.
The food was a mix. Some real highlights: the mushroom arancini bite was excellent, the magret de canard was very well done, & the dessert was my coup de coeur of the evening. However, the morue was quite disappointing (especially since it's usually something we love), & the tuna entrée felt very basic & lacked flavor. The braised veal was just okay.
The ambiance was also average. We were seated at the back near the kitchen hallway with storage directly behind our table, which made it feel less intimate than expected for Valentine's Day. It may have just been our table or the busy evening, but overall we left a little disappointed.
I've been to Sauce Buvette du Quartier many times, & every visit is unforgettable.
Every time I go, I have to order the Bresaola, the whipped ricotta, & their calamari they never miss. I've also been getting the lobster-filled ravioli with an order of focaccia, & it's absolutely insane.
What makes it even more impressive is that there's only one person in the kitchen. Domenico cooks everything himself, Wednesday to Saturday, lunch & dinner.
Then there's the cocktail & wine list such a unique variety. I always order the Il Carbonaione, & it's the perfect pairing with the lobster ravioli.
Best part about this is is that it had free parking at the back no need to find a parking lot on the street!😊
Cozy Italian restaurant in the heart of Griffintown with a warm, inviting atmosphere.
We've visited twice now, & every single time the food has been outstanding. We've tried all of the pasta dishes, as well as the burrata, focaccia, & arancini, & each item has been consistently excellent. Every person we've brought here has loved their meal, which says a lot about the consistency of the kitchen.
What really elevates the experience, though, is the service. The staff genuinely make you feel taken care of from start to finish. They're friendly, attentive, & always courteous, creating an experience that makes you want to keep coming back.
Let me begin by highlighting the superb service by Duncan & the kitchen staff tonight. The food was impeccable & so fresh & the drinks were amazing! You guys left an amazing impression on us that we want to comeback & experience it all over again. I highly recommend this place for fresh & delicious Italian inspired food.
My recent visit to Sauce left me with mixed feelings, primarily due to the stark contrast between the lackluster food & the truly outstanding service.
From a culinary perspective, the experience was quite disappointing. The lobster ravioli I ordered was unfortunately watery, lacking the rich, concentrated flavor one expects from such a dish. Equally uninspired was the fried chicken, which arrived completely devoid of seasoning - not even a hint of salt. For anyone who appreciates good food, the offerings here simply don't measure up.
However, where the kitchen fell short, the front-of-house staff truly shined. The service was excellent throughout our meal. Our server was attentive, professional, & went above & beyond, making an otherwise forgettable meal more palatable.
We opted to sit on the terrace, which presented a missed opportunity. While it has the potential to be a beautiful outdoor dining spot, it currently feels neglected, as if the budget ran out mid-design, resulting in a hodgepodge of'beach chairs' rather than cohesive outdoor seating.
Given the significant culinary shortcomings & the uninspired ambiance, I wouldn't return. While the service was commendable, it simply isn't enough to compensate for the unappetizing food & the disjointed setting.
