Yum! This place is great. Food was really good. I especially recommend the gai lan (Chinese broccoli) it was so good it gave me goosebumps! The beef rendang was also 11/10. Soooo good. The only dish I would skip is the fried mushrooms. They were too greesy & bitter from the turmeric. Otherwise, I definitely recommend everything.View more
Je suis venue deux fois. L'expérience du service a été bien meilleure la seconde fois, car la première fois les plats arrivaient n'importe comment. Je suis revenue car parfois quand les restaurants viennent d'ouvrir il y a des ajustements à faire. Mais les plats sont malheureusement définitivement bien trop épicés pour moi. Les brochettes de boeuf sont délicieuses. Le plat de fèves germées est quasiment immangeable en raison de la quantité extraordinairement élevée de sel. J'avais l'impression de développer de l'hypertension juste à l'avoir dans la bouche. Le riz est ok,le ragout de boeuf très bon. La carte est très chère. C'est dommage. L'inconvénient d'une petite place c'est effectivement la proximité excessive avec les voisins de table, qui nous bousculent quand ils passent où dont les conversations gênent les nôtres occasionnellement. J'aurai quand même tendance à encourager les gens à aller faire un tour si leur palais est d'attaque!View more
Parfait pour les coeliaques & soirée entre amis! Le petit espace du restaurant met une ambiance calme & chaleureuse. On a eu un très bon service & tout le personnel est vraiment sympathique. Coup de coeur pour le boeuf indonésien, crème brûlée au pandan, le tofu soufflé.View more

Absolutely loved this restaurant & the experience. Great atmosphere, great service, most importantly excellent food. After returning from Bali earlier this year I've been craving Indonesian food but we lack restaurants that serve authentic Indonesian dishes & flavours. Sister brought me here as she thoroughly enjoyed dining here previously. Dishes I recommend: balado udang patai (that galangal 🤩), gado gado (kangkung was cooked perfectly), tempeh satay (they do tempeh well!), ayam goreng manis (wow chili honey), rendang daging (so flavourful).View more

One of the very few (if not only) Indonesian inspired restaurants in Montreal, Satu Lagu was a nice place to enjoy Asian style food but of a particular savor that you would not normally be accustomed too...it's certainly not Chinese, nor Vietnamese (although closer to the latter than the former) with a lighter set of flavors & with an emphasis on umami-like essences.
Located on Mont-Royal East, the décor of the restaurant is clean, bright with hints of the cuisines' cultural roots (monkey light fixtures, rattan ceiling details, etc...) while the meal service is more tapas style than anything else. For our meal we asked our server (a very friendly & helpful Juliette) for the best-of options & went from there. We had the Ayam Goreng (plain & Manis (which is very spicy)...essentially fried chicken drumsticks but with an excellent batter), Belacan Satay (simple chicken skewers with a gritty shrimp flavored peanut sauce...good), Tauhu Telur Asin (a fried tofu dish...excellent), Kailan (a spinach/broccoli style dish with oyster sauce flavoring...good) & the House (Jasmin) Rice with Coconut flavoring (very good). For dessert we had a surprisingly excellent Pandan Creme Brule...very, very good. Finally, we paired the meal with a surprisingly appropriate beer called Doux Bisous which had a light citrus flavor & really worked well with this style of cuisine.
The food portions were on the smaller side (like tapas) however the service was done one dish at a time with the rice at the end. This was not how we eat typical meals as we prefer rice to be included & used as a base for the dish. We didn't realize this until the end but, now that we know we would have asked for the dishes to be served in quick sequence & especially for the rice to be brought earlier.
Service was very good &, as mentioned, our server was knowledgeable & helpful. Tired of the same-old Chinese & Vietnamese dishes then certainly give Satu Lagi a try. Enjoy!View more
Was really excited to try this place, planned the Montreal trip also around it. Was a bit disappointed. Not that the food wasn't good, but it just wasn't anything special for the price. The service, atmosphere & overall maintenance was great but they could up their game with the variety on food. The cocktail was also good (Paradin Rice). We had the Satay Daging (beef) & marinated Calamari. We also tried the Fried chicken.View more
