Review Summary

Sato Izakaya has quickly become a beloved destination in Montreal, celebrated for its authentic Japanese cuisine, cozy and vibrant atmosphere, and welcoming service. Guests frequently praise the high-quality menu, with particular highlights including the remarkably crispy pork katsu, flavorful ramen, fresh sashimi, and the popular aburi sushi. The restaurant offers a generous variety of dishes that are consistently well-presented and delicious, making it an excellent spot for both casual meals and special celebrations. With its thoughtful decor and attentive, friendly staff, the dining experience feels both professional and intimately warm, often drawing comparisons to an authentic trip to Japan. While most visitors find the value and portions to be exceptional, the overwhelming consensus is that this restaurant is a hidden gem that leaves diners eager to return.

Only managed to snap a shot of the cheese katsu because we inhaled everything, it was so good!!

Reasonably priced, excellent tapas. The chef in charge of creating the menu really did an amazing job, I really felt her love in the food. We had the salmon aburi sushi (a must), pork gyoza, cheese katsu & scallop & shrimp butteryaki (scallops were giant & amazing, from Japan).

Lovely atmosphere & staff outside on the terrace.

Was awesome when they started the business in 2025. Now overpriced & shrinkflated the quantity, understandable but sad.

Love this place! I've tried a bunch of different dishes & they were delicious, very similar to the flavors that you taste in Japan & the price is very fair. My favorites are the Sushi & Tonkatsu.

I used to love this place but our last experience was a huge letdown. The food was not fresh & tasted bad. They also use AI (as pictured). I will not be coming back.

On recommande.

We had lunch at this Japanese restaurant & overall had a very good experience. The food was good, & considering the quality & portion sizes, I think the prices were quite reasonable. There is really not much to complain about when it comes to the value.

The ramen was definitely the highlight of the meal-excellent flavor, good texture, & very satisfying. We also really enjoyed the chicken katsu. The portion was very generous, & it was one of our favorite dishes of the meal. The Hamachi crudo was decent, although I found it a little more average compared with the ramen & chicken katsu.

The salad was also fine, & the sauce had a good taste, but we didn't really like its texture. It was a minor issue & didn't take away from the overall experience.

The service was good, & the staff were nice & attentive. Overall, we enjoyed our lunch & would happily come back, especially for the ramen & chicken katsu. With the combination of good food, generous portions, reasonable prices, & friendly service, this is a Japanese restaurant worth trying.

We originally were waiting for table around the block at competition but they weren't nice so we decided to come here.

Glad we did, our service was really solid, very friendly & our ramen was so good! Love the broth. Plus they have one of my favorite sakes, Dassai 45!
