I don't usually write reviews, but Salumi Vino 100% deserves one. This place is hands-down one of my favourite restaurants in Old Montreal. The food is authentic, comforting Italian-like eating at my mom's or my nonna's-but with a touch of elegance in the way everything is presented.
The restaurant itself is small & cozy, with beautiful rustic walls that make it feel warm & intimate. One of the things I really appreciate is how clean everything is. I'm super picky when it comes to food & cleanliness, & what really impressed me is that the kitchen is completely open-so you can see everything being made right in front of you. It's like a little show, & it proves they're doing things right, from scratch & with care.
The wine selection is also great. Whether you're a wine lover or someone who just wants a nice glass to go with dinner, they've got you covered. & the staff is always so attentive & kind. Having the owner, Mario, come by each table personally just adds a special touch-it really feels like five-star service without the stuffiness.
I've been to Salumi Vino many times now, & I even hosted two family events there, including my small wedding. It was absolutely perfect. The location in Old Montreal makes it even better-amazing for photos & just a beautiful area to be in.
I recommend this place without a doubt. It's a hidden gem that truly feels like home, & the food never disappoints.View more

Mario & his staff were wonderful! We had a large group reservation & every single dish was absolutely delicious. My favourites were the arancini with truffle & the eggplant parmigiana: AMAZING!! This is the real deal. Been all over & rarely did I have the experience I had here. The owner personally takes care of all the clients & is extremely passionate about his food & rightfully so. The wine list is impressive. The meatballs & eggplant parm are just like our nonnas used to make. The gnocchi were divine & the ravioli were to die for. Their tiramusu was another show stopper. Cute little place in Old Montreal. We got the arancini to start, good taste but it was cold in the middle which was unfortunate. The sauce also came cold, on purpose for some reason. We had the ravioli & mushroom pappardelle, decent portions for both dishes but nothing special. Bit pricey for the overall quality of food. Service was professional & pleasant. Wine selection was good. We didn't try dessert. Overall, we'd give a 7/10. Happy we tried it but likely won't come back.View more

Wow, what a discovery! Facts: this is an Italian restaurant; it has an extensive wine list that complements much of the scratch made menu items. Notable differences from "other" Italian restaurants: the menu has a lot of off-the-beaten-path items (zucchini flowers as appetizers) as well as well-thought interpretations that transport you to Italy. The sauces are well simmered, so they develop a rich taste, enhancing the meats, fish or vegetables. We didn't have desserts, but the veal meatballs (with its Parmesan gratin & tomato sauce) & zucchini flowers as appetizers were well received, & the main courses of rapini sausage pasta (a bit oily, though), gnocchi & tuna plates were well executed. Don't forget to ask for bread to capture all the sauces that come with main dishes - it's a shame to waste it!View more

My family enjoyed an excellent meal at this classic Italian restaurant. The service was impeccable (Daniel) & owner Mario was a pleasure to talk to. The meatballs & amazing red sauce were fantastic. The Pappardelle Boscaiolo doesn't disappoint with black truffles & mushrooms. Homemade pasta makes every dish stand out with superb flavor. Amazing food, incredible staff, & a knowledgeable owner made our dining experience unforgettable. Every dish was a delight-the gnocchi with wine pairing was exceptional, & the burrata with fried pita was delicious. We walked in around 9:30 pm on a random night in Montreal & were quickly accommodated. Although it took some time for our food to arrive, it was worth the wait as everything was freshly prepared. My boyfriend & I will definitely be returning, hopefully with a reservation next time. This is a truly magical restaurant for a special date night.View more

Have to say. Been to many places ... & this place always feels like home. If you're from Montreal you should try it. If you're not, you should still try it ! Treated like royalty & been happy to have been going there for over 7 years. Amazing food & the owner is a very knowledgeable wine connoisseur. Food is always on point. My advice to someone who has never been here. If you don't order multiple entrees to share then you're missing so much of what the restaurant has to offer. They're amazing to share & have each such a great taste for your pallet. If you have a chance to ever try the osso bucco when it's there definitely worth it !!! Very friendly staff. A life changing restaurant. The absolute BEST pasta in the city. Hands down. Best dishes: the truffle gnocchi is to DIE for!! A classic & absolutely delicious. Handmade gnocchi with a creamy perfectly balanced dish. The tomato sauce is hand made & makes for a perfect dish with their handmade pasta. Mario truly knows his wines & always picks a good pairing!! Went there for dinner with a group of 6 & friends from out of town. Mr Mario was very welcoming & has a great sense of humour. Rachel, our server, was fantastic. She was very attentive & just a wonderful personality. We ordered a charcuterie appetizer, very good but the zuchini flowers were delicious. The veal was great & sauce delicious. Friends were very happy with beef short rib & pasta. Wine list is excellent & reasonable prices. Atmosphere is really nice in a beautiful old building typical of old Montreal. I typically dont eat out too much in Italian restaurants but we really had a good time with great food & service.View more

Great food, intimate vibe, & amazing service. Took my wife there for her birthday, & we felt catered to. The owner takes pride in offering the authentic Southern Italian cuisine experience. Menu is simple but offers a variety of pastas, meats, seafood & appetizers. They make their own tomato sauce & you can tell they use the freshest ingredients. You can also buy their sauce in a jar if you like. Wine selection was top notch. Overall, Prices are also extremely fair for the Old Port. Plus, it's around the corner from key Old Port hot spots while being far enough from the chaos to catch a break. Highly recommended for anyone looking for fantastic, authentic Italian food in an intimate environment.View more

At first glance it is a quaint, small typical style old montreal restaurant. Exposed stone walls giving us the feel of once upon a time. The wine cellar is large & visible. The staff are all quite friendly & courteous. The owner is friendly, present & on top of it all. The food was tasty. I guess all that one looks for in a eatery of this caliber. So we ate well. We drank well. & we enjoyed each other's company. ( By we I mean my very good friend from out of town & I.) Unfortunately the one thing that bothered me the most was that when I booked our table I was told that, (after much hum & ha-ing by the person taking the reservation), we would have to be done & out by 8 pm . So I agreed thinking that an early dinner,( 6pm) would not be a great issue & having till 8 pm would be more than enough time to enjoy my birthday dinner . Well from 6 till 8 there were a total of 8 people in the entire restaurant. As we left there was only two other people still eating. & no one madly rushing the restaurant to come in. I don't think we needed to be told that we had a cut off time if there were barely any other souls coming. It just made us feel rushed. I understand the logistics of it all. If you create a scenario where there is hight demand then most people will possibly want nothing more than to have an IN to the popular restaurant. So there you have it. The entire evening was enjoyable & yummy. But the false pressure was not needed.View more

1st off I will begin with one word: Wow. From the minute I walked in to the time I left, everything was beyond expectations. I was meeting some friends for dinner & as I walked in I was immediately impressed with the cozy & welcoming ambiance. The decor is tasteful & warm, exuding a natural comfortable feeling.. The minute I sat down the owner Mario came to introduce himself & welcome me there. Though the waiter was at our service throughout, Mario personally took our orders. I had a special request for my meal & was fully expecting that they would either not'be able to accommodate it or that they would need to charge me a fairly big surcharge for it., as most places do. To the contrary! Mario not only said no problem, but he also did it at no extra cost- a rarity by today's standards, to say the least. Now for the food. Simply put: Exquisite. Melt in your mouth dishes- from the appetizers to the main course, right through to the dessert. We all had different dishes & couldn't help dipping into eachother's plates to taste everything because it was ALL so good!! The wine selection was excellent & met the same caliber of quality as the food. We stayed to closing time but Mario did not rush us out. Once again, to the contrary, he stayed to speak with us. As I said in the beginning of my review: Wow. This place has it all: Decor, atmosphere, service, food & wine- all top notch. If you want to have a mouthwatering meal with good wine in a comfortable setting with welcoming & warm service, then this is a definite must go to. I came to this restaurant over the weekend as I heard it was authentic Italian. Well boy let me tell you.. this was the best authentic Italian I had in a long time. I had a bottle of white wine which was amazing, which had me telling our server this was the second best Italian which I meant the first. (It was their amazing white wine which mixed me up). I also had the best espresso martini in all of Montreal… no word of a lie, heart & soul was put into this martini. I travel a lot, drink espresso martinis on the regular, had Italian grandparents & I can say this is the most authentic you are going to find in Montreal. Amazing service, amazing food & amazing drinks. Thank you so much for making our experience the best. Will recommend this restaurant to anyone in Montreal who wants a good eat & good service!!
