Amazing food, but the service needs a personal touch.
The Good:
We visited Montreal for the first time & chose Rutba based on its excellent reputation. The food certainly lived up to the hype-everything was delicious & very reasonably priced. The atmosphere & seating were comfortable, & most of the staff were polite & professional.
The Critique:
Unfortunately, the experience was dampened by one individual (who appeared to be the owner or a senior server). We felt an air of superiority & a lack of warmth that made us feel unwelcome. In a city where everyone else was incredibly friendly & welcoming, this stood out in a negative way.
Verdict:
The flavors are 5-star, but the management could benefit from training their staff on how to engage neutrally & warmly with every customer. We loved the meal, but we hope the hospitality matches the quality of the kitchen next time.
Attentive & friendly service from Sim & others. Best Indian food we've had in Montreal in terms of flavor, creativity & presentation. The place was vibing with the cool decor, happy customers, sounds of drinks being mixed, & the guitar player! It was a Friday night.
Our first visit to Rutba was such a delight - tasty food, cozy ambiance, & friendly service. We may have ordered a bit too much, but everything was so good it was hard not to.
The star for us was the Telangana chicken curry: bold flavors with curry leaves giving off a beautiful perfumed aroma. The lamb rogan josh was also a favorite.
We couldn't resist the Rasmalai Tres Leches dessert, which did not disappoint. The flavors of cardamom, rose, & pistachio in this tiramisu-style sweet were divine - a perfect way to end a wonderful meal.
The space is casual & comfortable, & the staff are attentive & kind.
We're already planning our return for the samosa chaat, one of their many butter chicken variations, & another round of that Rasmalai dessert.
We had a nice dinner at Rutba & explored quite a bit of the menu.
The appetizers were definitely the highlight! The Mahi Moti was perfectly crispy on the outside with lovely flaky fish inside, & the Banarasi Cutlet had a great crunch & a surprising little kick of spice that we really enjoyed.
For the mains, the Mewa Mawa Kofta was a standout-the curry was incredibly smooth, rich, & flavorful. We paired everything with the Naan au beurre, which was fresh & hit the spot.
The only slight disappointment was the Lamb Biryani. We ordered it medium spicy, & while the flavor was there, the consistency was a bit watery, which isn't quite what you expect from a biryani.
5/5 Stars - Hands down the best Indian food I've had in Montréal!
I recently visited this incredible Indian restaurant with my family, & it was an absolute standout experience from start to finish. The chef here is clearly very experienced & passionate - you can taste the authentic touch in every single dish. It's like having a master cook prepare a home-style feast with perfect balance of spices & flavors.
The naan was phenomenal - fresh from the tandoor, soft, fluffy, slightly charred on the edges, & buttery in the best way possible. We ordered garlic naan & plain, & both disappeared in minutes because they were that good! Paired perfectly with the curries.
Speaking of the curries, they were superb - rich, aromatic, & full of depth without being overwhelmingly spicy (though you can ask for more heat if you like). We tried the butter chicken, paneer tikka masala, & a lamb curry - all were flavorful, creamy where they should be, & the spices were layered beautifully. The portions were generous, & everything tasted fresh & made with care.
The atmosphere was warm & welcoming, making it ideal for a family outing. The staff was friendly & attentive, & they made sure our kids enjoyed their milder options too. No rush, comfortable seating, & the whole place felt inviting.
This is easily the best Indian restaurant I've come across in Montréal - authentic, delicious, & worth every penny. We had such a great time that we're already planning our next visit. Highly recommend to anyone craving real Indian flavors! Will definitely be coming back soon. ❤?
Loved this Indian spot-4 stars for killer butter chicken, fluffy garlic naan, speedy friendly service, & unbeatable value! Bursting with flavor, though the wait was a tad long on a busy night. Still highly recommend for a tasty night out!
A true Indian cuisine in downtown Montreal. Our family is very happy about the food. They are quite busy. They don't allow us to call & reserve a table. This restaurant is first come first serve.
We arrived around 18:20. We waited not long because the staff tried to find a table for 6 of us. The restaurant is not big so all tables are very close to each other.
Food is awesome, real Indian taste. I love all curries especially lamb curry. Naan is soft & nice. Paneer dish & chicken tandoori are flavorful.
Service is attentive. Thank to Miss Simran. She is great & smiles all the time.
We will definitely come back.
Friends introduced me to this great Indian restaurant downtown. The food was excellent - lots of unique & flavorful dishes you don't always see. The service was friendly, attentive & very welcoming. Definitely a place I'll be going back to. Highly recommend!
?'What an impressive meal at Rutba! Honestly, I was blown away by the presentation-every single plate was absolutely beautiful, looking like something you'd see in a magazine.
?The food was rich, maybe even a little heavy, but in the best way possible. Those curries (mewa kofta & murgh makhni andaz) were incredibly decadent & creamy, perfect for tearing apart some fresh naan & dipping. The appetizers were fun, especially the Pani Puri. & dessert (rasmalai très leches & gulab jamun with ice cream) was the perfect, elegant finish.
?If you're looking for high-end, gorgeous Indian food that's packed with flavor, this is definitely the spot. Go hungry!'
had the pleasure of dining at Rutba Restaurant recently, & I ordered the thali - it was fantastic! The portion size was generous, & the variety of dishes made it a delightful experience. Each dish was full of flavor, & you could really tell that a lot of thought went into the preparation.
The service was exceptional, thanks to the wonderful team of super ladies running the restaurant. They were so accommodating & made us feel right at home. Huge shoutout to the person who trained them because the level of service was top-notch. Nandita, in particular, was incredible - she answered all our questions & made sure we were well taken care of throughout our visit.
A nice perk of visiting on a Friday evening is the live gig by a local singer. It really added to the atmosphere & made the experience even more memorable.
I absolutely recommend Rutba to anyone looking for great food & even better service. Thanks again, Nandita, for making our visit so special!
The food was excellent. Each dish had a different flavor & texture, & the Naan & rice well prepared.
Had dinner at Rutba last night with friends & it was excellent! We ordered the chicken biryani, paneer & kofta curries with some naans, plus a cocktail & a beer. Everything was packed with authentic Indian flavors & tasted delicious. The ambiance inside is warm, stylish, & perfect for a night out. A big thanks to Simram for the wonderful service & for surprising us with complimentary gulab jamun, & to Hritik for being so attentive throughout. Highly recommend this spot if you're looking for flavorful Indian food in Montreal!
I recently visited Montreal & stumbled across this gem of a restaurant called Rutba. I was seated outside by my server, Simran who sold me on the combination platter! The different flavors of each item were 100% on point. The spice level was deliciously perfect. Truly an experience in Indian flavors & gracious service.
I usually don't enjoy Indian cuisine, a matter of personal taste I use to believe. But after having tried this place I realize I had been having the wrong thing all this time. This place is amazing, their food is so impressive, delicate & full of flavor. So many little savory nuances, I was really blown away. Highly recommended. & the service is a plus. They well so welcoming since the start, they open the terrace for us even if it was too early. Our server, Sim, she is a jewel, totally adorable & professional.
I had a great experience at this restaurant! The food was delicious, the service provided by shaurya & nikk was amazing, friendly & attentive, & the atmosphere was warm & welcoming. Everything was well-prepared & flavorful. Whether you're stopping by for a quick bite or a full meal, it's definitely worth a visit. Highly recommended!
We had an absolutely amazing dinner at Rutba!
Their Panneer Tikka was to die for, very soft & full of flavors.
Surabi & Shravani were really sweet.
We had a problem with the parking, Surabi came forward & helped us without hesitation.
Shravani recommended the dishes, all of them were mouth watering. Highly recommend this place if you are in Montreal.
Great vibes, bold flavors! The cocktails were fun & the Indian bites were packed with spice & soul. Perfect spot for a chill night out.
Went there during night with my friend. Stunning Indian cuisine, every dishes are packed with flavors. Theres nothing more you can ask. Highly recommended their combo if you want to try more flavors at once.
Just a little discomfort from the bench seatings.
Remember to reserve your seats if you do not want to wait.
The food was delicious & well recommended by our server Sim.
I recommend this place for a flavorful meal. & good service .
