We came back to Coco Rico after two years because we had such a great memory of their roasted chicken-& this time, the experience was even more special.
We had the privilege of meeting Concepción, the owner, who shared the beautiful story behind the restaurant. Her father came from Portugal in the 1960s & built this family business from the ground up. What makes it truly unique is that, after all these years, they are still using the original recipe he brought with him from Portugal.
Concepción is absolutely charming-like a mother welcoming you into her home, serving you authentic, homemade food that warms both your stomach & your heart. It's a true luxury for Montreal to have a place with this level of quality, not only in the food but in the human connection.
If you're in Montreal, even if you're not a chicken lover, you simply have to come here & try it. & don't leave without tasting the pastéis de nata-I can honestly say they're just as good as the ones you'd find in the best bakeries in Lisbon.
A favorite spot we'll always come back to-where you feel right at home
This was my first time trying pastel de nata .The pastry is light, flaky, & buttery, while the filling has a custard-like texture, more on the firm side rather than runny.
Worth trying if you're curious about this classic Portuguese pastry.
Merci Maria !
I can only speak for the Pastel De Nata but oh my goodness these things were gooey, hot & flakey & downright absurdly good. The service was sweet & they let us sit in their patio when we only bought one thing. Very friendly & the place smelled delicious so definitely worth some trying of the food too
I have been going to cocorico for almost 20 years & it's still the best place in Montréal For some of the most tender three Portuguese chicken in the city.
Service has always been absolutely friendly above & be on the call of duty. & half an hour before closing, I went in to have a chicken sandwich special - I never felt rushed, & the food was so fresh & so very hot. The chicken sandwich on a fresh roll, with extra sauce - medium, not too spicy, the home potatoes, & creamy coleslaw is my comfort food. I feel bad for the people who had ordered takeout & felt they were short changed, but I've made it a point to eat at the restaurant, & I've always had overstuffed buns with moist chicken breast & crispy skin. The Natas deserve a whole other review on their own - but just this to say, if you feel like you too hungry, take six of them to go - & your night will be complete :) I got to chat with one of the co-owners - who was a delight, bubbly & friendly, & we went down memory lane talking about how being a kid in the 1970s was such a privilege & so much fun. So that's how I ended my night with a full & happy belly & some wonderful shared laughter.
As much as I love Schwartz's, I say skip the lineup & walk up the street to Coco Rico. You'll be happy you did :)
I know this place has a lot of food on the menu but the only thing we tried were the Pastel de Nata. Wow Delicious & they could definitely compete with the one we ate in Portugal. Highly recommended!
The best place to experience the authentic taste of barbecued pork, lamb, or chicken. A cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, &, most importantly, the warm & welcoming attitude of the Portuguese owner made our day. Don't forget to try their famous Portuguese dessert, pastel de nata, which is arguably the best you can find in Montreal. Highly recommended!
Wonderful Family Business with a heartwarming atmosphere. The owner is absolutely amazing! Pastel de Nata- best in town, poutain (very large portions)- wonderful! It's perfect for a quick dinner, they offer chicken & salads on the side, also portugeese bread. 10/10!
