The taste/flavour has nothing extraordinary in it. The meals were made in a very simple way which is kind of nice but missing some smoky flavour; The chicken slices on my sandwich were bland. Soup leaned towards the salty side. Fries were a little greasy. The serving portion is quite huge which is great for people with big appetite. The waiting staff is attentive & friendly. Parking space is a plus as customers have a designated free parking towards the back of the restaurant. The place is clean however the lighting is somewhat too dim for me.View more
We really love oldschool places so the atmosphere were really good & unique. The service & people were also kind & smiley. For the food we didn't eat chicken. We have tried poutine, fries & a ceasar salad. Fries were not crispy at all & reminded of just old cooked potatoes & they were greasy. After our stomach felt not good beacuse of the grease. For vegetarian options is only a fries & a salad.View more
One of the best BBQ chicken in Montreal. Large chickens, not the usual small ones. Fast service. Fries are excellent.View more
If this is not a'Heritage Montreal' site, it should be. Hands down the very best chicken in Montreal. As soon as you walk in the smell will have you salivating. Fries are awesome! Time machine decor is perfect. Polite friendly service.View more
Now you will notice I have it 5 stars for atmosphere even though it's all original & out dated. The reason why? Because it's out dated ! It's like going back into one's childhood & it's nostalgic. Food is yummy & predictably delicious. Portions are generous & the home made crisp fries & BBQ sauce are to die for. The chicken in any form is awesome because it a hot chicken sandwich or rotisserie style yummy. Pricing & value are totally there & a great place for a family meal. Not fancy but it gets the job done well. Dave the manager is always on top & making sure everything is done to his high standards. The customers are proof as most are patrons for generations. You have to go.View more
Chalet Bar-B-Q is a forever favorite. It is what it is & loved by many, many Montrealers. We travel all the way from St. Lazare occasionally to eat or pick up a chicken & fries from take-out. Latest visit was after a show in downtown Montreal.View more
My first time eating here & I was not disappointed! Chicken was great, fries are easily the best fries I've ever had & the SAUCE! absolutely delish. Highly recommend, portions are great for the price you pay. & beer for under 6$! Worth a trip out hereView more
Great fries. Chicken could have been cooked more. Had a nice flavour. I didn't like the sauce. A bit like stepping back in time to the 60's. It's okay but I wouldn't go back.View more
Chalet BBQ is nothing short of an icon in NDG, so talking trash about this establishment would be like insulting the Pope right in the Vatican. No danger of trash talking this place as far as I'm concerned. The chicken is moist & perfect, the fries are EXACTLY the way fries should be & the sauce is simply delicious. UPDATE: After a few years, we finally returned to Chalet BBQ to enjoy some delicious BBQ chicken. Food was just as good as before, but the service has deteriorated considerably. We were 2 couples & one of our friends are handicapped & had a problem with his legs. Even though we arrived late in the evening, with the restaurant 80% empty, the host/manager refused to give us the larger booth so our friend could sit & get up safely, instead telling us he was "...saving the booth for larger parties". Needless to say, no other parties arrived & the booth was left empty, while the 4 of us sat at a small table crowded in the corner. I grew up in NDG & all my friends & I practically lived in this restaurant. What an insulting'homecoming' that was. After being treated like Persona non Grata, we'll do this manager a favor & won't be returning.
I have been coming here for more than 40 years as it was a family favorite. The chicken is tender & tasty, the FRIES are the best in Montreal, in my humble opinion. & THE SAUCE. I used to drink what was left when i was young. Not much has changed over the years EXCEPT for the size of the chicken they serve. i felt as if I was eating a baby chicken, the drumstick was so small!! They must have changed supplier. Charge more, but give us a normal size chicken leg, please. I will still go back, but will have to order two legs instead of one...View more
Very cozy place to grab a nice meal & enjoy the service. It was my first time visiting Montréal & we needed a nice meal before heading back home. This place came about & we decided to try it. It was a great choice! The food was delicious & filling, & our waitress was wonderful. The waitress was very friendly & gave us recommendations to save some money. Their gravy has a hint of heat. Their fries were crispy & very palletable. Chicken soup was perfect to warm up. I liked their water pitcher. Unfortunately, I don't have a picture of their water pitcher. Go & check it out.View more
Still the best rotisserie chicken available in Montreal, & serving one of the best lunch specials available. The fries are excellent, but the baked potato is a great option too.View more
The standard for real BBQ chicken. Very moist & tender. Quebec fries. Sour Cole slaw. & their sauce.View more

I’ll start with the cons
Service was good by the woman. The fat white man serving us was terrible. Broke my grandmothers wheelchair when putting it away for us.
I personally seen him make a waitress cry. Very dismissive possibly because we were a large group or possibly because that’s just how he is.
When asking for butter or condiments etc it was slow & we had to ask per one per person & they would come give us 1 little packet of butter for 10 people. We had to ask 6 times.
2 people taking everyone’s order which caused them to mix up our orders
Pros Food was really good. Chicken was really really good. The lady serving us was pretty nice
Price is really good
If you’re eating with indecisive people the menu is short & sweet & shouldn’t take them long to order
Fries are fresh cut not frozen
Will be back for the food but definitely not the serviceView more
What can I say this is a landmark & I’ve been coming here since before I was born 55 years ago & I have been here over 1000 times . Tasty chicken , the fries & sauce are to die for in my opinion & the coffee is nice as well. Prices have gone crazy in the last 5 years though & it’s become more expensive than the big chain chicken joints like st hub, Benny etc . I sure do miss thé old days when I got a double leg dinner with fries, sauce, slaw & a drink for less than a McDonald’s trio. I miss some of servers that I grew accustomed over the decades …View more
