This establishment functions as a primary destination for those seeking a straightforward and well-executed representation of pan-Asian gastronomic standards.
Restaurant Rizière is widely celebrated as a culinary gem in Montreal, known for its authentic, flavorful Chinese dishes and welcoming atmosphere. Patrons frequently highlight the quality of the menu, specifically praising the expertly prepared dumplings, signature beef noodles, and unique salmon dishes. The service is consistently described as friendly, efficient, and attentive, contributing to an overall pleasant dining experience for both solo visitors and groups. While the space is compact and can occasionally feel drafty during colder months, the value, consistent food quality, and unpretentious charm make it a highly recommended destination for anyone seeking a reliable and satisfying meal.
This was by far the worst restaurant experience I've ever had.
When we arrived, there were plenty of empty tables, but the staff refused to seat us, saying they were reserved for an hour later. We politely explained that we would finish our meal well before then, but they still refused without offering any reasonable solution. We have to order foods to go.
The service only got worse from there. The head chef (who appeared to be in charge) was extremely rude & unprofessional. When we questioned the seating arrangement & the long wait, he told us,'This is how restaurants in Montreal are,' & even said,'Leave if you don't like it.' I have never been treated so disrespectfully by restaurant staff.
After waiting a long time for our food, we decided we no longer wanted to eat because of the terrible service. However, the restaurant refused to cancel or refund the order, despite the food not yet being served.
To make matters worse, the food was disappointing & tasted far from fresh. The quality did not match the restaurant's reputation or ratings.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but the rude attitude, disrespect toward customers, refusal to resolve a simple issue, & poor food quality made this one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.
We will never return & cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone. Worst restaurant of the world!! shame for you!
This response is simply untrue & attempts to rewrite what actually happened.
First, we were originally told that the tables were reserved one hour later, not 30 minutes later. Several tables were empty, & we clearly explained that we could finish quickly. Instead of offering a reasonable solution, your staff refused to seat us.
Because we were not allowed to sit down, we ordered takeout & waited for a long time. During that time, we were not blocking service or interfering with other customers. We were waiting for food that we had already paid for.
It is also important to point out that, despite being refused a table & treated poorly, we still left a 15% tip when placing the takeout order. This clearly shows that we were not rude, unreasonable, or disrespectful toward the staff. We behaved appropriately & even tipped before the situation escalated.
Most importantly, the chef's behavior was completely unacceptable. He did not speak politely. He raised his voice, told us words to the effect of'eat it or leave,' & repeatedly told us to get out. Our criticism came only after we were treated in this hostile & humiliating manner.
We did not discriminate against anyone. Saying that this behavior was a disgraceful representation of hospitality is criticism of your staff's conduct, not discrimination based on ethnicity. Accusing customers of discrimination simply because they complained about rude service is a serious & dishonest attempt to avoid responsibility.
Your response also fails to explain why your restaurant refused to refund an order after we no longer wanted the food because of the way we were treated.
We have already reported this incident to the appropriate tourism authorities & welcome an investigation. We are prepared to provide a detailed timeline & supporting evidence, including proof that we paid & left a 15% tip. Instead of blaming customers & changing the facts, your restaurant should review how the situation was handled & take responsibility for the conduct of its staff.
