Review Summary

Restaurant La Nouvelle-Orléans offers a warm Cajun dining experience with consistently solid to excellent food, attentive service, and a lively yet comfortable ambiance that blends vintage jazz with nostalgic decor. The price may feel a bit high, but portions are generous, presentations are appealing, and the kitchen seems to please across many dishes. Spiciness can be adjusted via a small pepper indicator next to menu items, and dishes such as sweet potato fries with Cajun spice, blackened fish, Caesar salad, and caramel pudding are frequently highlighted. Jambalaya, fried chicken, and other Cajun staples appear on the menu, with several reviewers praising authenticity and flavor. The space is intimate and may require reservations, with a small bar area offering a strong spirits selection and a solid wine list. Service is repeatedly described as impeccable, friendly, and attentive, and many reviewers say they would return, calling it a standout in the region. Minor drawbacks noted include tables that are a bit close and a limited beer selection.

My boyfriend brought me here because he heard the served alligator a couple years ago. It definitely wasn't on the menu, so I can't verify if that was ever true or not. I really like cajun food, but he'd never tried it before & ended up really enjoying it. I got a chicken caesar salad & a mojito, while he got the chicken & shrimp jambalaya with a side of fries. The french fries were really good, really delicate & crispy, & the jambalaya was great. The shrimp & sausage were seasoned really well, & the vegetables weren't too overcooked or mushy. My salad tasted really nice, & I particularly enjoyed the pickled red onions & croutons. Unfortunately though, I found the dressing to be just a bit too heavy on the salad, leaving it noticeably oily in my mouth, so I didn't finish it. The chicken on top was really great, it was sliced into long strips & was very crispy & flavourful. Considering adding chicken costed about 10 dollars, I'm happy they didn't skimp on the portion size because I would've probably left hungry otherwise. Maybe it's because I don't drink alcohol too often, but my drink kind of confused me. I did read that the mojito had tonic water instead of club soda, but the quinine taste (which i usually love) reminded me almost of fish while I drank. I considered trying to mix the drink a little to disperse the soda more evenly, but the inclusion of like, 2 whole stalks of mint made me not want to stir it up to avoid drinking a bunch of leaves. As I continued the drink I was less bothered by the flavour, as I approached the sweetener at the bottom. It wasn't terrible but the first few sips were definitely offputting. The server we had was great, really friendly & accommodating. The interior is very cozy & the aesthetic choices made are bold & unique. The actual space inside is very small from what I can tell, & they use it well. I appreciate that the washrooms are solo with a shared sink/mirror to maximize space while still being private.

An absolute hidden gem! This establishment has it all. The ambiance is warm, welcoming & the staff are way above par. (Merci, mille fois, Martine!) The food? Way above average. We started with cocktails, I discovered the "Banana Bomb" , an adult version of a banana popsicle, it was wonderful. My husband went with a spicy Caesar & reported it exceeded his expectations. For an appetizer, I chose the crab cakes. Seasoned to perfection, 2 clouds of crab heaven, the presentation was such that I hesitated to dig in. They were light in texture & prepared just so amazingly, I contemplated ordering more however, our entrées were on their way. My husband chose the Creole shrimp & rice, I went with a fried shrimp dish & a sweet potato fries side. The shrimps were huge & so tender. My dish was again, seasoned & prepared perfectly. My husband was also very impressed with the seasoning & texture of his as well.
Now to the nitty-gritty; the prices are more than reasonable & combined with the ambiance, welcoming staff & exceptional dishes, this is a "MUST VISIT" for all fans of Cajun/Créole cuisine.
