Location is great - in the middle of a park, cute patio on a beautiful day. Magalie & Jeanne were great, very attentive & helpful. Great QC wine recommendation. Food was fun & delicious, I especially loved the fresh house made buttermilk cheese in a courgette for the cheese course at the end. Definitely recommend 😊
We had a spectacular evening at Candide. The food is out of this world; simple, fresh ingredients are cooked to perfection & served alongside the best of Quebec & world wines which pair perfectly. The atmosphere is great & the staff are very friendly & knowledgeable about both the food & the wine.
Updated from last visit.
Visited Candide again. & it delivered smart, spring menu - vegetable forward with refreshing sauces, sophisticated ingredients & great service. This is the Candide that we know & love!
- The radishes were perfectly cooked, accompanied by a very tasty (bell pepper?) sauce. Perfect dish to start the show.
- Cucumber with spinach was a very light yet tasty dish. The texture was fun & the buttermilky, slightly sour sauce was very refreshing.
- Crab with carrots, yogurt & basil was a perfect combination of slightly sweet & savory. Baked & fresh carrot added the texture & the basil brought the brightness & freshness it needed. Yogurt went very well with crab & brought everything together.
- Don't let the tomato sauce in a halibut mussel dish fool you - it's actually creamy & slightly spicy with a touch of tomato. It all comes together in a very subtle yet satisfying combination.
- I've never thought chrysanthemum tastes so good with the hen & burned onion!
- Both desserts were great & again fruit forward with natural sweetness.
Really enjoyed the dinner which wasn't too heavy but with large enough portions to walk away full & satisfied. Looking forward to coming back!

Great atmosphere & service but the food is not as it used to be 2-3 years ago. Out of four courses, two were subpar. Especially the fish course (arctic char-on the photo) with sweet sauce & carrots. Somehow the dish was too salty & too sweet at the same time. It was bad, with weird flavor. The second course was some sort of soup with leeks & mussels. It was sour & you couldn't chew anything on the plate. The first course, the oyster & the dessert were solid, with great flavor. This is why I used to love Candide-simple, but sophisticated & tasteful. Unfortunately I don't think we will be coming back when half of the dishes are a miss. Also a mocktail was not really a mocktail but an apple juice.
I found myself feeling a little jealous of the chefs as I indulged in incredibly wholesome dishes, each crafted with fresh ingredients that complemented one another beautifully. I came to realize that this place is truly an anchor institution for the community, where the chefs cook purely for the craft & for the people. While my last two visits were good, it was that very first visit that was truly extraordinary.
Food was inventive, fresh, tasty & not pretentious. Service was not rushed at any point. I'd definitely go back in a few months when the menu changes.
Delicious & creative food. Great service. Unique wines. Dishes featured lots of unseasonable vegetables & fresh herbs.
A Charming Spot with Potential! This quaint restaurant, tucked behind an old church (now a community center), offers a unique dining experience with a focus on quality ingredients, thoughtful cuisine, excellent service, & a warm, inviting atmosphere. I reserved a bar seat for one, but the staff kindly offered me an available table instead. However, I opted to stay at the bar, enjoying the view of the kitchen. The bar seating includes under-table hooks for bags, a thoughtful touch. The seasonal menu is priced at $85CAD, includes two starters, one main, & one dessert. Add-ons oysters (+4$) & wine pairing (+56$ for four half glasses) are also available. The starters featured a good portion & impressive variety of fresh greens, including Brussels sprouts, shallots, radicchio, & spinach. The quality & freshness of the ingredients were evident & much appreciated. For the main, I had the Guinea Hen with Raspberry sauce. The dish was beautifully executed, the meat was tender & juicy, the skin perfectly crispy, & the flavors were well-balanced. The red wine pairing complemented the raspberry sauce nicely, enhancing the dish's complexity. Unfortunately, the starters were overly salty. When I informed my server, they adjusted the seasoning for my main course, which turned out perfectly. Despite the kitchen tasting each dish before serving, the saltiness accumulates as customers finish their plates, making it difficult to enjoy consecutive dishes. I could hardly enjoy my second starter after finishing the first. Dessert was an interesting combination of cheese & sweet potato, but the unexpected spiciness of the sweet potato was surprising. While I can tolerate spice, the level is certain too intense for many others. The menu or server should have mentioned this detail beforehand. Service was attentive after the initial delay, water wasn't served, & no one approached me for the first ten minutes. Additionally, the restroom door was left open for some time, which detracted slightly from the otherwise cozy ambiance. The location may be tricky to find, it's directly behind the church facade. Overall, while there were minor missteps, the quality ingredients, innovative dishes, & accommodating service made for a pleasant evening. I look forward to returning to explore a different seasonal menu.
Candide is nothing short of a remarkable dining experience. The food is truly exquisite, showcasing creative, seasonal dishes that are as beautiful as they are delicious. Each plate tells a story, blending fresh local ingredients with a thoughtful approach that makes every bite memorable. The service is warm & attentive, enhancing the overall experience. The only drawback for me was the lighting-it's a bit too dim, which slightly detracts from enjoying the visual appeal of the stunning dishes. However, this is a minor inconvenience when weighed against the exceptional quality of the food. If you're looking for a dining experience that's both refined & grounded in local flavors, Candide is a must-visit. Just consider bringing a small light to fully appreciate the artistry on your plate!
Amazing service!! Incredible food & the ambiance is perfect in there. Lots of warm lighting & wood, it feels very cozy. Also they are so accommodating- they let us choose a seat where we could watch the food being prepared, & they developed a main course especially for me as I'm vegetarian. We even got some fresh-from-the-comb honey at the end of it as a treat. It was an amazing experience with delicious food, thank you!
My favourite restaurant in the world. I have been here a number of times & each time has been perfect. The food is fresh & the vegetables are exquisite.
