Well, we had pretty high expectations since this place was recognized as 6th best restaurant in Canada. Even though we had amazing time here, I feel it is a bit overrated.
Can't complain about the service - 10/10. The food itself was great, but I feel it lacks of creativity. I believe that high quality & amazing taste is not enough for one of the best restaurant in Canada.
Lastly, what really disappointed us - the atmosphere. The place itself is tiny & feels overcrowded, in addition to that the music was too loud that made having a good conversation more difficult.
Overall it was an amazing experience, but we should have had a lower expectations.
Very impressed with everything from the quality of the ingredients to the execution of the dishes & an amazing service. Highly recommend asking for the tasting menu if you are a first time visitor.
Beba is what happens when Argentina, Spain, & Italy have a dinner party in Verdun & nobody goes home. Named after a grandmother - the highest possible endorsement a restaurant can receive - this intimate little room on Rue Éthel operates like a love letter written in foie gras-stuffed dates & finished with a dulce de leche flan. You don't just eat here. You correspond with someone's abuela.
The menu changes weekly, which sounds like a commitment issue but is actually the most romantic thing a restaurant can do. It means they care more about what's good right now than what looks safe on a laminated card. The wine list alone could put a sommelier into a beautiful, dissociative spiral - natural, obscure, brilliant, & somehow reasonably priced for the sheer audacity of the selection.
The service is warm without being theatrical, the music is perfect without being loud, & the whole experience has the rare quality of feeling both effortless & deeply considered. Beba is not a restaurant you stumble into. It's one you tell people about in a hushed, slightly possessive voice, like a very good secret you're only sharing because you trust them.
This is a highly-rated restaurant in Verdun, Montreal; I don't think it quite lived up to the hype. Service was efficient, but we found our server to be a little dismissive & she encouraged us to over-order. Food quality was variable. The fish was excellent, as others have noted, but the pasta was uninspiring. The salad was fine & well-presented, but the dressing was similar to a Caesar dressing I make myself. The stuffed dates were delicious, if drenched in a bit too much olive oil. The wine list was extensive, but sold at a high price point. Overall, an interesting establishment, but expensive & our party of four did not feel this to be a Michelin-rated experience.
A five star experience. Hype was real.
Food was impeccable. The lamb tagliatelle & the beef cheek in particular were standouts.
Service was excellent, provided great recommendations on both food & wine.
dessert was maybe just-ok. Probably due to the quality of the food before, but the dessert was fine, not exceptional. Would've preferred a cappuccino option to only bodum coffee, but that is a very minor critique.
The atmosphere is cozy & just feels right. Fits the vibe well.
We had a great experience overall & will return.
every dishes was so exquisite & high quality;
customer service was very professional & perfectly demonstrated;
one of a first-rate restaurants in Montreal.
The service was excellent. Thank you to the bar tender for sending me your restaurant & bar list. You're a real one. Our server was really funny & I'm glad she took the time to tease me & tell I'm wrong about a few things. That kind of service is honest & refreshing.
The food however was really up & down. While I did enjoy the mackerel. I was very disappointed to have been served it with such an oxidized blood line. While it looks much fresher online in their photos! This should not be the case at the #7 best restaurant in Canada. Maybe don't order this dish on a Sunday. The knish was a bit dry for my taste. I would prefer it to be more moist. As a life long lover of knishes I was dying to try these & it turned to be my least favourite dish here. I had much better ones earlier in the day in Mile End.
The upside for was the octopus, clams & cannellini beans. This dish I will be raving about for a while. I also thought the foie gras dates were exceptional. Normally I don't like giving negative reviews. However I was looking forward to this meal a lot. I travelled here for my birthday dinner from across the country & I'm leaving kind of disappointed. I probably won't be back at this price point for inconsistent quality.
Cute & intimate spot for a delicious experience! The quality of ingredients were very fresh & portions were reasonable. We were pretty stuffed by the end. Also, the front of house team worked well together & were very attentive!
Really love & the food & music. Service is good. Portion not big but quality & taste so good that doesn't bother me.
Only one suggestion: Not many options for non alcohol beverages.
The food was at best average. Dishes lacked passion. Favourably didnt blend well at all. Pricing was high for this quality.
Dessert was the only highlights (flume was good)
Was a Chef for 8 years worked in top restaurants in the country but this was a classic Montreal fine dining disaster. Service was horrible our server was rude condescending & injected too much of her opinion. Please kindly let go of the one with the tattoo sleeve on her arm. Her resting face was very unpleasant. Please garnish your dishes at this price point.
Said this before but I'll say it on this review as well Montreal fine dining is a joke avoid it if possible
Everything was INSANE! Every ingredient used was thought & the quality was insane! Each dish was explained with details of the techniques used & where did the products come from. It was crazy! We had two from the classique: the KNISH ; the cured mackerel on a sesame bun I.N.S.A.N.E it was soooo good! Like each flavour was perfectly balanced & everything came through! Third was the beef tartare! CRAZY! So fresh, herby, lemon, with the perfect garlicky well toasted sourdough! With ANCHOVIES! In a really comforting way it satisfied my PIZZA CRAVING! & the last was QUEBEC LAMB two ways. The first was lamb belly sandwiched & seared with black trumpet & there was the T bone equivalent of the lamb all served with sautéed greens topped with a pine nut+raisin+capers gremlot & a red wine jus! This whole experience was amazing & I am SO GRATEFUL! It was truly a WORK OF ART!
Basically the best restaurant in Montreal. The food is always on point with amazing top quality ingredients. The service is friendly, the drinks & wine recs always hit the spot & the atmosphere is super cozy. We recommend this place to everyone we know.
Went here a while ago for a birthday. Sat at the bar. Some of the best service I've ever had. Not at all overbearing or pretentious, just very friendly with great recommendations. Awesome bar menu. Think we drank beer, wine, & liquor (& paid for it the next day...), but they had excellent choices for all, even some fancier import sharing bottles of beer. The food itself was excellent quality & well-made, but lacking a real "stand-out" flavor. Partner had an empanada to start which he said was one of the best he's had, but mentioned his chicken main dish was a bit one-note. I had a pasta myself which, again, was well-constructed, but a bit plain. Portions are quite good for a place of this price point, an app & a main each certainly sufficed. Pretty lacking on vegetarian options, but they were very accommodating upon request. Overall, though the food didn't blow my mind, I would 100% go back for the vibes & the staff.
Truly a must in Montreal - very deserving of its position in Canada's top 100 restaurants. We were greated by an attentive waiter who we later learned was co-owner Pablo Schor. He made us feel like family. I have a fairly detailed list of allergies which he took care of professionally & definitively - I was able to taste most items on the menu thanks to his input & help. A truly wonderful overall experience thanks to the quality of the food, service & general vibes. 10/10 do wholly recommend!
Great experience. Charming little restaurant with excellent food. Only made better by magnificent service from Antoine. Couple of standout dishes: Tuna with cold capellini with tomatoes - Didn't expect this to work but it did. Grated tomatoes with garlic reminded me of pan con tomate. Tuna was of exceptional quality. Grilled Rabbit, yellowfoot chanterelles grenobloise - First time having rabbit, & it was beautifully cooked. Montadito mackerel, sesame, horseradish - Looks simple but delightfully balanced
Beba really impressed me. You can tell the quality of the food is amazing.
Overall a positive experience, service is professional & attentive. Radicchio Salad & Involtini were great(eventho there were low quality pine nuts on the involtini), the beef cheek with sweetbreads & tomatoes was a big disappointment:there was no salt on the tomatoes, the sweetbreads were under cooked & the beef cheek portion was very small...& that for 60 (!!!!) $,it really pissed me off. It's a bit of a Bobo restaurant, a cool place for people who wants to feel cool. I would suggest to go for a date rather than with friends.
5 star all around! Outstanding service, out of this world wine list & beautiful food. The restaurant offers cozy vibe & unique dishes created with top quality seasonal ingredients. One of the best restaurant Montreal has to offer!
Food was delicious & of high quality. Stands on its own alongside other greats in Montreal (like Vin Mon lapin for example, which we had just visited the night before Beba). We had tartare, mushrooms, ragu, & asparagus. Cocktails to start & a beautiful bottle of wine. Our server was sensational. A father who apparently lives down the street, he was kind, very engaging, providing all the rich detail tailored to the guests level of interest. The location & clean/crisp but warm/cozy interior makes it feel like a neighbourhood gem rather than a well trodden (or tired) institution. We had exactly the kind of fantastic dining experience that keeps us coming back to Montreal. Well done Beba!
Finally. A good "fancy" restaurant where the portions were good for the price. You get exactly what your order with no frills. Just good quality ingredients. Cocktails were on par with high end cocktails bars but at a more reasonable price. Seasonal menu makes me excited to come back!
