This will be a long review, but I hope it's taken as constructive feedback. It's not just about the food, service plays a major role in the overall experience.
I want to start by saying the food was good. I would have considered coming back for it. However, because of the overall experience, I won't.
We chose this restaurant for a birthday celebration. The décor is beautiful, cozy, clean, & exactly the upscale Mexican vibe we were looking for.
We had reserved for 15 people but ended up being 16, our mistake, & an additional table had to be added. This was done before any orders were taken, & no one changed seats during service.
Throughout the evening, there were several service issues beyond timing & billing. Drinks were accidentally spilled on members of our table, & at one point a drink was knocked over by management. They did replace them, which we appreciated, but it contributed to the overall disorganization of the night.
Meals did not arrive together. Some sides were served long before the mains. Mocktails were delayed. Billing was extremely disorganized, & it took nearly an hour to correct multiple incorrect receipts.
After all of this, as we were finally preparing to leave, the manager approached our table & loudly stated that a Gigot d'agneau had not been paid for.
He referenced us having'changed seats,' implying that this caused the billing confusion. As mentioned earlier, the additional table had been added before any orders were taken, & no one moved during service.
At that point, after the cumulative issues of the evening, his accusatory tone was the final straw for me. I reacted strongly & raised my voice. I could have remained calmer, but being spoken to in a way that questioned our honesty after everything that had happened made the situation escalate.
It's important to mention that the manager was also yelling during this exchange.
Following the argument, I offered to pay for the'missing' dish to resolve the situation immediately. The manager declined & said it was not necessary.
Mistakes happen, especially with large groups. We were patient for most of the evening. However, professionalism & communication matter just as much as food quality. The situation could have been handled calmly & discreetly instead of escalating publicly.
If accommodating large groups is difficult, that is understandable, but it may be better not to accept them.
I hope this feedback helps improve future guest experiences.
I've had nothing but great experiences here. The food is authentic & full of flavor, the atmosphere is warm & welcoming, & the service has always been attentive & professional. It's a beautiful Mexican restaurant with a great vibe definitely worth visiting.

Loved it! Don't go there expecting typical, authentic Mexican food, it's more of an upscale, modern twist. Pricey, but worth it! Service was great as well.
If you're looking for an upscale Mexican experience, Balam is the place. The decor is absolutely stunning-it feels like you've been transported to a high-end beach club. We loved the Ribeye Tacos & the Hamachi Tartare; both were incredibly fresh & flavorful. The cocktails are also a work of art . Great music, great service, & a perfect spot for a night out.
Balam at Royalmount offers a vibrant, elevated dining experience, serving sophisticated, contemporary Mexican cuisine in a stunning Tulum-inspired setting. The atmosphere is energetic & stylish, making it perfect for a festive night out.
The food is exceptional, seamlessly blending traditional Mexican flavors with modern techniques. Must-try dishes include the rich rib eye tacos & expertly prepared ceviches, all using fresh, high-quality.
What truly elevates the experience is the service, particularly our server, Jaime. Jaime was fantastic-attentive, professional, & genuinely warm.
He guided us through the complex menu with insightful recommendations & ensured our drinks were promptly refreshed.
Jaime's excellent service made our evening feel seamless & personalized, turning a great meal into a truly memorable occasion.
'I'm a Mexican living in Montréal, & knowing the authentic flavors of Mexican food, I'm amazed at how close the taste is here. The mole with duck leg is delightful, & the dining area has a beautiful view. I highly recommend this place!'

Balam is such a great spot! The food tastes super fresh & authentic. the pescado & guac were amazing. The vibe is cozy & chill, & the staff were really friendly & welcoming. Honestly felt like a place you just want to come back to again & again. Definitely recommend if you're craving good Mexican food! 🌮
Food was good but overpriced in my opinion but it may be the setting. We tried the Balam guacamole which was good. The fish tacos were very flavorful & packed. The Balam margarita was great as well.
Service was slow, we had to wave the waiters multiple times for dessert or water.
If you want a fancy Mexican meal, try it.
Cuisine mexicaine, pas vraiment mexicaine. On vous vend une assiette de mini-salsas avec des tlayudas, mais au final, on ne vous donne que des chips tortillas, car il s'agissait d'une erreur d'impression, selon la serveuse. Le canard n'a ni saveur ni texture.
Les meilleurs de la soirée était les tacos de faux-filet.
Mexican food, not so Mexican. They sell you a plate of mini salsas with tlayudas, but in the end they only give you tortilla chips because it was a printing error, according to the waitress. The duck has neither flavor nor texture.
Really cool place, very good hi-end Mexican food, elevated & very tasty! Beautiful restaurant decor & very friendly staff! Fast service even when busy.
Ceviche dishes were incredible.

I had an amazing experience at this new mexican restaurant. The atmosphere is warm & inviting, the service is friendly & attentive, & the food is absolutely outstanding. The highlight of my meal was the duck tacos-perfectly cooked, tender, & packed with rich, savory flavors. They're unlike anything I've had before-
unique, delicious, & a must-try for any taco lover. If you're looking for authentic Mexican cuisine with a creative twist, this place is a gem. I'll definitely be coming back for more!
I went there on Saturday night with three other friends & everyone loved their food. Three of us had the duck carnitas & my other friend had the surf & turf & ordered the guacamole for the table, everything tasted amazing! (We're Mexicans). I loved that they bring you nice warm tortillas & different home-made hot sauces on the side, so you can make your own tacos with the meat of your choice. When we ran out of tortillas they happily brought more & didn't charge extra for them. The cocktails were pretty nice too. Great place! We'll be coming back soon!
What an amazing Mexican restaurant in Montreal! The food & drinks were delicious & the setting is beautiful (both inside the restaurant & the lovely view outside).

amazing mexican, the drinks are delicious but the margaritas & guacamole are a musstttt! The service from the staff was impeccable, efficient & super friendly.
Absolutely gorgeous place. Visited it for a business lunch. Interesting selection of dishes with mexican touch. Tried a variety of items on the menu & the most that stood out was Coctel de Camaron! The rest was good. Wasn't of the Ceviche, but that's personal taste. Waiting time was a bit much, but it was definitely worth it. Probably do not go with big groups as we spent there over 1.5h altogether. Located outside of the mall in the middle of the garden. Definitely worth trying
