Balam propose une expérience culinaire dynamique et raffinée qui transporte les convives dans un décor inspiré de Tulum, alliant esthétique élégante et atmosphère chaleureuse. Le menu met en avant une cuisine mexicaine contemporaine et sophistiquée, avec de nombreux éloges sur la fraîcheur des ingrédients, la qualité des ceviches et la saveur des tacos. Food was truly delicious! Everything we had was way better than expected, very flavorful & intentional. Plate presentation was beautiful, felt very upscale. Wait staff was extremely attentive & friendly. Decor was beautiful, fresh & bright. Location was great, not inside the Royalmount mall, but adjacent & leading out to the parc/courtyard/esplanade area. Definitely not a'mall' vibe. It struck a perfect balance between casual comfort & understated elegance. It was a little loud, but Saturday afternoons through to evenings there is a live DJ event that happens in the courtyard so it is not the reataurant itself that was loud. Other nights & afternoons would be far quieter. We sat on the terrace & therr was a large screen broadcasting the FIFA wold cup games, so it could also be a chill spot to catch the game. But I repeat, the food, it was really exceptional. The entire menu seemed appetizing. I would highly recommend going & look forward to my next visit.
I have to say, this place is worth every penny you spend. The food is outstanding, the ambiance is beautiful, & the service is truly A1.
In my humble opinion, this is the best Mexican food in Montreal. Everything we tried was exceptional. The duck tacos, ribeye tacos, & ceviches were absolutely amazing.
Make sure to save room for dessert you'll be pleasantly surprised. Every dish was prepared with care & packed with flavor.
If you're looking for a great dining experience, I highly recommend Balam. Good food, great atmosphere, & memorable moments. Highly recommended!

The thing is that the service is very slow coming from the waitresses. I saw the drinks being quickly ready from the bartenders & just waiting to get picked up & this probably explains why the drinks taste dilluted. Its really too bad because it is a very beautiful place with a lot of potential but there is some training to do, especially with the price you are paying you expect a similar, decent downtown upscale service & we did not get that at all. It felt very fast chain unfortunately. Hopefully it gets better, but it does make me second guess another visit
The restaurant itself was beautiful, service was great! Cocktails were delicious.
I did however find it a bit of a nuisance that as soon as we arrived we were told we had the table for 2 hours only but the table wasn't even ready for us when we got there. I was glad they didn't rush us & allowed us to stay longer.
I would give it 5 stars for atmosphere if it wasn't for the music being way too loud (live dj ), the point of going out to eat with friends is also to talk without shouting. Besides that, everything was great.
Had an amazing experience at Balam! The food was absolutely delicious, full of authentic flavors, & everything came out fresh & perfectly prepared. The atmosphere was beautiful, warm, & welcoming.
A huge thank you to the waiters Emilia & Abdallah for the outstanding service. They were incredibly attentive, friendly, professional, & made the whole experience even better. They constantly checked in to make sure everything was perfect & made us feel truly welcomed.
Had an amazing Sunday brunch experience at Balam. The service was exceptional from start to finish, & Daria truly stood out with her professionalism, kindness, & attention to detail. This will be a long review, but I hope it's taken as constructive feedback. It's not just about the food, service plays a major role in the overall experience.
I want to start by saying the food was good. I would have considered coming back for it. However, because of the overall experience, I won't.
We chose this restaurant for a birthday celebration. The décor is beautiful, cozy, clean, & exactly the upscale Mexican vibe we were looking for.
We had reserved for 15 people but ended up being 16, our mistake, & an additional table had to be added. This was done before any orders were taken, & no one changed seats during service.
Throughout the evening, there were several service issues beyond timing & billing. Drinks were accidentally spilled on members of our table, & at one point a drink was knocked over by management. They did replace them, which we appreciated, but it contributed to the overall disorganization of the night.
Meals did not arrive together. Some sides were served long before the mains. Mocktails were delayed. Billing was extremely disorganized, & it took nearly an hour to correct multiple incorrect receipts.
After all of this, as we were finally preparing to leave, the manager approached our table & loudly stated that a Gigot d'agneau had not been paid for.
He referenced us having'changed seats,' implying that this caused the billing confusion. As mentioned earlier, the additional table had been added before any orders were taken, & no one moved during service.
At that point, after the cumulative issues of the evening, his accusatory tone was the final straw for me. I reacted strongly & raised my voice. I could have remained calmer, but being spoken to in a way that questioned our honesty after everything that had happened made the situation escalate.
It's important to mention that the manager was also yelling during this exchange.
Following the argument, I offered to pay for the'missing' dish to resolve the situation immediately. The manager declined & said it was not necessary.
Mistakes happen, especially with large groups. We were patient for most of the evening. However, professionalism & communication matter just as much as food quality. The situation could have been handled calmly & discreetly instead of escalating publicly.
If accommodating large groups is difficult, that is understandable, but it may be better not to accept them.
I hope this feedback helps improve future guest experiences.
