Reviews describe Punjab Canteen as delivering authentic Punjabi flavors with home-style dishes that evoke comfort and nostalgia, from Amritsari kulcha and dal makhani to chole bhature and kulfi, with fresh, flavorful accompaniments like parathas and chaat; the food is frequently praised for being tasty, well prepared, and reasonably priced, and many visits note generous portions and a satisfying, family-friendly dining experience. The service is widely celebrated for friendliness, attentiveness, and quick, smooth handling of orders, creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere, though a few reviews mention slower service during busy times or concerns about cleanliness and setup at some locations. Overall Punjab Canteen is seen as a reliable go-to for comforting, authentic Punjabi cuisine with strong recommendations to return.
This is by far my favourite Indian food in the city. I've tried many restaurants downtown, in the West Island, ParkEx. They have great options on the menu & the quality is a notch above all others. The meat is well cleaned, the sauces rich but not oily, the vegetables are fresh.
