This is the most amazing food market in Montreal

Boulangerie Première Moisson at Marché Atwater is a gourmet stop that blends artisanal craftsmanship with the vibrant atmosphere of one of Montreal's most beloved markets. From the moment you approach the counter, the sight & aroma of fresh-baked breads, buttery pastries, & decadent desserts is irresistible. The display itself is a visual treat - golden baguettes stacked neatly, rustic loaves dusted with flour, delicate croissants with perfectly flaky layers, & colorful tarts & cakes that look as good as they taste.

The quality here is consistently outstanding. Breads have a beautiful crust & tender crumb, pastries are rich & flavorful without being overly sweet, & savory options - from sandwiches to quiches - are prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. Whether you're grabbing a quick snack or assembling a picnic with market finds, it's easy to put together something memorable.

Service is friendly & efficient, even during busy hours, & the staff knows the products well, often offering thoughtful suggestions. While prices reflect the artisanal quality, the freshness & flavor make it well worth it.

Première Moisson at Marché Atwater isn't just a bakery - it's an essential stop for anyone who appreciates fine baked goods. For photographers, the colors, textures, & natural light of the market create the perfect backdrop to capture the artistry in every loaf & pastry.

I thought I was having a bad day today. I had been to two highly rated places for breakfast & lunch & was let down in both. Finally, we came to Atwater Market & saw the pastries in here. We ordered eclairs & coffee. Finally, the server was so polite & caring. The quality of food was good & service was excellent. My day is finally back on track.

Cooked food, meats, salads in window, they warm up for you. For quick meal, good deal. In farmers market Atwater Marche (inside, at the west end, near WCs). Very nice ambience, local produce for sale, homemade things. (Not cheap, & some vegetables, not good...beware, be patient & look before buy). Service ok but a bit brusque. Serving size a bit small (for price). Seating outside is basic (not much seating inside). So, lower expectations, decent place for lunch.

Pros: The desserts are delicious & fresh. Croissants were alright, but could be better. I couldn't feel any cheese in the cheese croissant. The environment is cozy & large. Cons: dessert prices are expensive & above market. Important note: You need to press a button & get a piece of paper from the machine before ordering anything.

I love this place. I've been coming to the market for 30 years. You can't go wrong except for getting takeout coffee in a Styrofoam cup!

Good for a 1-time visit when going to the market, not good if you try to be a regular customer. Today, as usual, staff were disorganized & not paying attention to the line. Two women butted in front of me. I thought they were just looking closely at the breads & would move aside when the employee came. No, they started placing their order. I said I was next. They looked shocked that I would dare. The employee stared at me & didn't move, he didn't know who to serve, like it was some kind of moral dilemma. Meanwhile, a second employee at the bread counter was in a drawn-out chat with someone who already paid. She could have come & both orders would have been taken, but ignored it. This kind of situation has happened many, many times at the bread counter, & at the counter for lunch on the other side. It's the first time I speak up. It looks like employees don't know what they're supposed to be doing & some customers take advantage. It's routine that people will butt in line whether the place is full or empty, & staff don't notice or do anything. It's not worth the hassle.

I live close to Atwater market & I visit this branch of Premier Moisson at least 3 times a week. While I love their pastries, bread, Quiche, you name it, I was very disappointed in the fact that one of their staff members didn't understand the concept of hygiene or why she wore gloves for that matter. I happened to witness her go through an entire jar of coins (tips) to give the customer ahead of me, his exact change. She literally touched at least 15-20 coins, having flipped over the entire jar & then put all the coins back in. Naively, I assumed she would change her gloves after having touched that many coins, or have their courtesy to use tongs while touching the croissant I ordered. When she brought me the croissant, I had to say something, to which she responded if I had to do that every time, I would go through 100 pairs of gloves a day. I'm quite shocked honestly, that someone in the food industry doesn't understand basic hygiene. Don't see myself going back there, unless I'm buying something packaged & sealed.
