Walked in, held up fingers for how many in our party, & we were seated right away. Tables are two-tops pushed together depending on group size-efficient, no-nonsense setup.
The beef in the pho was excellent-tender, well-cooked-but the broth was forgettable. Not bad, just didn't stand out. My son's chicken & rice plate was clean & filling, but so neutral it could've come from half a dozen different places. No standout seasoning, no distinct flavor.
Cash only, but they did take U.S. dollars & even gave a small discount-so that was a pleasant surprise.
Fast service, decent prices, no big complaints-but nothing special either. If you're nearby & hungry, it'll do. But if you're chasing top-tier pho in Montréal, this isn't the destination.View more

Slow service. The special which is suppose to have beef balls is missing. The noodle soup arrived luke warm, not enough to cook the sliced raw beef.View more

It ain't what it used to be… the quality of the grilled porc was extremely disappointing today!! If you decide to eat here, ('cause it's still a Montreal institution) I suggest you go for the soup with the raw beef & the spring rolls.View more

So far, the best Vietnamese food I had in Montreal! Their noodle grilled chicken 🍲 soup is 👌 👍. Their grilled beef + chicken +rice is a MUST try 🤪. Give it a try 👌.
Prices are fairly well.

I've been to Pho Bang NY 5 times in total & I'll say this, their Pho is off the charts. It's amazing when it's fresh. It has all the perfect blends of flavors & you get it right quick, which means it's piping hot, just the way I like it!
Now the last 3 times a went I wanted the spicy noodle soup, Bun Bo Hu, something I've always wanted to try. Every time I went, until yesterday, they ran out because it's a weekly special. So you can imagine how excited I was when he said they still had some.
Well let me tell you it was the exact opposite of what I would normally get.
They essentially gave me a HUGE BOWL OF TEPID BATHWATER. It was the most bland beef broth with oxtail & flank steak. There was barely any seasoning & no coriander. But the worst part is it's suppose to be SPICY NOODLE SOUP. There was no chili in it at all.
It virtually tasted like eating warm canned consume. I just can't see myself going back after getting served that. It was like they decided to serve me anything because they just wanted my business that day. Normally I'd consider it a one off thing & talk to the server about it but he just disappeared after serving us.
It's really sad because it was really a nice thing to look forward to every second week. I love Pho & now I have to find a new spot.View more

Was debating between this spot & a pub nearby. So glad we went with Pho Bang New York. Was super busy when we showed up & knew it was gonna be amazing right away. Got the grilled chicken & beef & it came in less than 15 minutes. Server was friendly & vibes were up. 10/10 recommend & would come back if i'm ever in MTL againView more

It was lunch time on a Sunday & craving for some authentic pho. Most of the nearby restaurants have long lineups & we traded for Pho Bang New York with no line up, & it was getting late. We ordered 2 identical medium Size rare beef Pho, nothing sophisticated & basic in order that we can get our order fast. What is basic for one is not basic for others as it took a long time to get just 2 bowls of Pho. The soup was hot but not boiling hot as I would have expected. Taste was just OK, & the amount of meat was satisfactory. I was sitting at the end table facing the kitchen entrance & I can tell you that the sight was not a good one. I can tell when hygiene is not on the top priority list. I hate to visualize how the interior kitchen would look like. We finished our lunch & went to the cashier to foot the bill & a sign " Cash Only" took me by total surprise. I do not always carry cash on me but luckily I had just enough to settle the bill. I subsequently read the reviews & crystal clear that I am not the only one caught with the Cash Only situation. This teaches me a lesson of not reading the reviews before going in a restaurant or business.View more

Food is always amazing. Tried all the meats (beef, chicken, pork & shrimp) & loved all of them. The noodles are also very good. You don't come here for the atmosphere but for the amazing food. I have to admin that at least, they try to have a good atmosphere but this place is always full. Can't wait to come back!View more

I used to come here often but my recent trip was somewhat disappointing. Food came out super fast which was great. However, I found the pho broth salty & my partner's rice was overcooked (mushy). The flavour of the lemongrass beef was amazing though & the imperial rolls were good too. We had to signal several times for water & cutlery & got a hand dismissing us at one point. If you're in the area & want good Vietnamese I would come here but do not go out of your way when there are so many other places around the city.View more

Came here multiple times to eat! Very great place for phõ, one of the best in the city. I always order the #9, rare beef & tripe. Although the soup is delicious, the service isn't the best. We waited around 20 mins for our water & my friend never got his soda. Overall, it's a great place for delicious phõ!View more

If you are a carnivore you WILL love this, but if you are Bun Bo Hue fans, you won't.... Came here on a Friday where this dish is only on 3 days--Friday, Sat & Sun. The place was hopping busy. The entire time I was there & when I left people kept coming. By comparison the Pho Bac across the street which has slightly higher rating on Google was mostly empty when I passed by. Anyway I've eaten plenty of Bun Bo Hue including some in Hue, Central Vietnam, the version here is absolutely nothing like what I had before. Typically this dish commonly found ingredients are pigs blood & knuckle, tendon sometimes, special spices etc. Here's it's just sliced beef brisket, oxtails & beef shanks (& lots & lots of it). Don't get me wrong the aroma, flavor & taste were excellent but it more resembles like a spicier pho dac biet than BBH. Though I initially really enjoyed my dish which at 17+CAD was very good value but towards the end I felt like the guy from BeardMeats Food trying to finish an enormous dish. This is the only time I didn't finish the meat in ANY Vietnamese restaurants. As tender as the shanks were, it's just too much. See photo.View more

Many people told me that good pho can be found here & I do like it. For a small sized woman small is good but not super filling, beef came with generous amount. The salt lemonade is pretty refreshing but for personal taste I wished it come with more lemon. One thing to notice is it's a cash money restaurant, if you are a person like me who only bring a 5 dollar cash in wallet, there is a atm inside the restaurant but with extra transaction fee.View more

Good Vietnamese restaurant located in chinatown. Food tastes amazing! We tried few dishes & really love it. The grilled beef on vermicelli & the spring rolls are really good. Besides the inconvenience of accepting only cash, this is one of the best pho. Out of all the pho restaurants, I came back to this place the most. The the broth & the beef are simply amazing. A hot bowl of delicious soup during winter is the best remedy against the Montreal cold. Recently I realised that no.33 vermicelle with grilled beef is exactly what I was looking for when its not cold enough for pho. The beef is deliciously grilled, you can taste the marinate running deep into the beef. Perfect for summer.View more

Has the #50 spicy beef weekend special. Was not spicy, & in fact kinda tasteless. I've had plain pho at other places which had more seasoning. The bone meat was tasty though. The minced pork spring rolls had a grainy texture to them & were kinda flavorless, but okay when drenched in the sauce. Service was friendly, though being forced to use cash exclusively is always inconvenient. Simple decor.View more
