Osmo X Marusan Café-Terrasse is an absolute gem in downtown Montreal! From the moment you step inside this stylish, brutalist-inspired space, you know you're in for something special. The vibe is vibrant yet cozy, with plenty of natural light, lush plants, & a welcoming atmosphere perfect for working, hanging out, or enjoying a meal.
But let's talk food-this café truly shines with some of the best sandwiches in town. Whether it's their famous fried egg sandwich or the inventive pork chop sando, each bite bursts with flavor & creativity. The menu also features delicious Japanese-inspired dishes like ebi curry & katsu curry that are perfect for lunch or a casual dinner. Pair your meal with their expertly crafted coffee or a sublime matcha latte, & you're set for a fantastic experience.
The staff are friendly & knowledgeable, always ready to help you pick the perfect drink or sandwich. In the warmer months, their terraces offer a lovely spot to relax with a drink, & the occasional live DJ adds a fun, lively touch to the ambiance.
If you want a unique café experience that combines excellent Japanese flavors, top-notch coffee, & a cool, social atmosphere, Osmo X Marusan Café-Terrasse is a must-visit. Don't miss out on their sandwiches-they're truly some of the best in Montreal!
Highly recommended for locals & visitors alike.View more
Matcha & chicken curry are unreal. Can't wait to try more options on their menuView more
I saw the sandwiches on instagram & I wanted to try them, but they were sold out. I had the fried chicken curry, & actually was amazing. The chairs & the tables are metallic, a bit uncomfortable.View more
The Japanese curry is amazing. Beyond that, it seems more targeted at students otherwise & isn't very comfortable, though prices are a bit high.View more
Absolutely warm & upbeat atmosphere. This basement cafe is not afraid to show what its about in terms of decor & music. If its cold & dreary outside, you will feel rejuvenated from the coffee made specially by a barista who knows what he's doing; & feel at home after getting a nice & hot katsu curry. Compliment the DJ in the back, they're making sure your experience goes above & beyond. Highly recommend.View more
A really pretty cafe tucked away with a super cool vibe inside. Evidently japanese inspired, i loved their hojicha white chocolate latte 🥹 & their food was super tasty! i honestly take curry over the sandwiches but they're both good ! a must visit in montrealView more
Love the flavor of the curry, but the meat is a bit chewy for the katsu curry. Patio at the back is nice & quiet. Service is fast.View more
Came here around 11:30 AM on Friday September 20th. I have tried the Marusan restaurant located inside the Time Out Market at Eaton Centre & really enjoyed the classic Japanese curries. This location offers more variety & doubles a coffee/study shop. The location is easy to access however being downtown there is only paid street parking. The restaurant is sort of underground but has great sky lights, a small terrace & plenty of seating. There are large communal style tables in the middle & smaller tables for 2 on the sides. When we arrived though most spots were taken & filled with students studying or browsing on their laptops. This would not be ideal for families or larger groups. We got the pork katsu curry dish & a chicken sandwicch - both were amazing, very flavorful, decently priced & filling. If you are looking for comfort food, this is the perfect lunch spot. Food is fresh & appears made to order. Service was prompt, overall vibe & ambiance is really cool. This is definitely a unique spot.View more
Will come back again! Ambience 💯 very industrial & edgy, dark & bright at the same time. Dark enough that's laptop friendly 💻 , bright enough that you get sky view from skylights ☀️ Ordered an iced matcha latte 🍵 to start the day fresh, wish it could be bitter but good enough. 4.5/5 I had katsu curry for lunch, the skin is a bit overcooked & feel heavy but the inside meat very juicy & tender. I was hoping more curry in the bowl. & the bowl has a chip at the edge that's actually dangerous for the hands. 4/5 Background music might be a bit loud in the morning, some rock music was playing, I guess they want it to feel more hippy. But it can get even louder when more people come in later in the afternoon. There's outdoor patio to sit but limited seats available. 2hr max wifi connection per user per day. Overall a good place to take a break or having a sprint work/study session. Very friendly staff. Will come back again to try out the sando. Total spending + tip: $27 Overall 5/5View more
The cafe has a nice concept. I tried the famous Tamago Egg Sandwich & chicken sandwich & was quite impressed. The rice curry was not bad. I would probably return when visiting Montreal. Would definitely recommend to my friends to try this place out 🩷👍View more
I was excited to try the food here since I love Japanese curry, & the sandos looked so tasty in the pictures. I went & tried the katsu curry & the karaage sando. To be fair, the sando was alright. Not the most appetizing cut of the meat, but that may not be a problem for everyone. Now, the curry, however...putting the also unappealing cut of pork aside, the real issue was just how bland the curry was. One of the blandest things I've ever tasted. Absolutely not worth the trip or the money I spent. I've made curry with store-bought curry blocks that tasted way better. Seriously: go to any asian grocery store, buy a box of Glico brand curry blocks, & make your own curry rice at home. It's not that hard to make, & it'll be more flavourful by a mile. Service was good: the staff was polite & friendly. Not much else to say there. As for atmosphere, well, it's loud & not that welcoming. There's an outdoor area that's much quieter, but it's very...I don't know...dingy? It's not landscaped, it's kinda gloomy, the tables are just picnic tables. Though actually all the tables were taken so my friend & I sat at what looked like a defunct bar. Not my scene I guess so giving it a neutral 3-star.View more
This place is such a vibe for artistic/creative & hipster people. The decorations, the slight underground/cottage feel tucked away on a somewhat busy street. It's a total vibe. I came on a Thursday afternoon & they had the techno experimental music blasting. I ordered a chai latte with soy & decaf Americano...both were very good. The chai was somewhat local from New York & was well spiced & not so sugary which I like. They have some food options as well like sandwiches & vegan curry. Plenty of seating indoor & outdoor in their terrace & at some picnic tables. 2 hour limit on wifi to keep people from docking. Just such a great, aesthetically pleasing cafe! Only improvement would be for more attentive, patient service.View more
Perfect spot to get some work done / catch up with a friend / stop for a quick bite. Find myself coming back over & over again. Their matcha latte is exactly how I like it, & their katsu curry/sando are super tasty.View more
Got the vegan curry which was fantastic! Ditched my family who were sitting inside because I got drawn in by the atmosphere & DJ. Ended up reading a really good magazine that they had there :)View more
This is a great spot to go eat some Japanese inspired dishes as a snack or a full meal. Such a beautiful place. Tried the curry, the tamago sando, the katsu sando & the karaage. The bread was a little bit too sweet for my taste but was pretty balanced in the sandwiches overall. The katsu sando's piece of work was really though to eat, it did not seem to be tenderized in any way. The karaage was exceptional as was the curry.View more
Such a cool spot somewhat secluded from the hectic city vibes. I also got lunch here which was the vegan curry bowl but was too hungry & didn't take a picture. Was Coffee was so good. Wasn't too impressed with the pastries though. Mostly cause my expectations were really high. But generally I give this place a high rating & would definitely go back!View more
The come brew is fantastic & the sandos & curry are too. The interior is full of vibes & they have a dj playing good music.View more
Hojicha latte was great, flavorful & mildly sweet. The pork katsu curry portion was super generous, the katsu is thick & juicy. The matcha cookie was a perfect blend of green tea & milky flavor.View more
Food is decent & it has a big portion but takes a while to make (it takes about 20min for a sandwich). If you're going to order the egg sando, add salmon & curry since the egg itself is too creamy (unless you like them that way). The atmosphere is nice, but music is loud (idk if that's supposed to be the vibe of the place)View more
Pretty cute cafe with indoor & outdoor seating We tried the curry katsu which was really good. It was crispy on the outside but super juicy on the inside. We also got the iced chai & ice dirty chai. Couldn't taste much of the chai as the espresso was quite overpowering. The regular chai didn't have a strong chai flavor either, tasted more milky. However, the staff was super kind & fast.View more
View more
Unique café/restaurant with very brutalist design. Baristas were friendly. I'd recommend their matcha & katsu curry.View more
Very good sandwiches, the chicken curry is a little bland but still good. The matcha & yuzu lemonades are delicious. Great ambiance & architecture. Nice terrace in the back.View more
get the tamago sandos & curry!! the pickled veggies in the curry are my favorite part, & they really nailed all the components of a good tamago sando 🥚View more
We loved our drinks, both look & taste were great! The food looks awesome but they can definitely work on the taste (the curry sauce was the best part of the food) The atmosphere is great for working for long hoursView more
such a hidden gem! the place is kind of hard to locate if it's your first time since the entrance is not on the main street & some might get confused with where the doors are located. the food is DELICIOUS & comes in arguably big portions. i thought i would be able to finish a strawberry sando & a karaage curry but i was so wrong, it was so filling i felt sick afterwards (in a positive way). i really enjoyed my food but the pork curry had way too much meat & was kind of dry, i personally preferred the chicken. overall, the visit was amazing & unless you're a big eater, i'd recommend only ordering one item. only small complaint is that the dj music was very loud so if you're easily overstimulated, please bring headphones with you to cancel out the noise because when i say it was loud, i am not exaggerating, my ears genuinely hurt.View more
