We were warmly welcomed by Gérard, Om's owner for the last 22 years. Although he was born in Montreal, the restaurant is a tribute to his parents' Tibetan culture.
The atmosphere is lovely: it's decorated with some Tibetan art, candles were lit & smooth jazz was playing in the background.
Since we just wanted a light bite, we had the mulligatawny soup & shared some Momos. Wiith a little salt, the soup was very good. The Momo's were tough to cut but good. We preferred the mint sauce to the tamarind sauce.
It was really interesting to speak to Gérard, who said that he's been there so many years that he has seen children grow up & become adults who come to the restaurant on their own! He was very friendly & open.
We were there close to closing time on a Sunday evening so it was quiet. I'm guessing it gets busy at other moments!
I ordered all the veg options on skip the dishes. The food was ready quickly even though I placed such a big order. It all came hot & fresh, packaged so well (no spills & they used mostly tin & paper containers so there was minimal plastic waste & no worries of excess micro-plastics leaching into the food. They gave me rice with the dishes which was a nice surprise. The value is really worth it. Even though the recipes weren't the best in the city, they were still good & had a homemade touch. The daal soup was the highlight
They offer various vegetarian food options. We ordered the MoMos végétarien (it serves with the soup daal/lentilles) Soup Then Thuk with homemade noodles, Timo (Tibetan bread which they don't use chemical yeast), Naan, & Lassi a la mangue. I highly recommend Soup Then Thuk (it's a big bowl for 2 people) & ⭐⭐⭐Lassi Mangue⭐⭐⭐ is the best ever! I like the fact it's all only tge natural sweet from the mango, they made it freshly & tasty! The price is reasonable also. Definitely will come back to try another dishes! Also thanks to the waitress, she is lovely & friendly! ♥️♥️♥️
Wow wow 🤩 what an amazing restaurant, can’t have enough of the delicious, authentic food slurp slurp. Butter chicken, lentil soup & chaw mein noodles are must must must try.
Warning : do not come here for a birthday , especially for a double birthday., this will be a long candid review
We went to this restaurant since my mom ( one of the birthdays) was recommended this restaurant & we love trying food so we figured why not.
The staff consisted of a really nice older gentleman, a brunette & blonde waitress.
The first issue : We first dropped off my mother & grandmother ( who had a clear tag of low visibility/blindness on her) had an issue with the seating. They had wanted to place us ( made a reservation for 5) on a 4 seater table with a chair on the edge glued to the wall. It was explained to them that we would need extra space as we are 5 & with someone with low visibility, therefore requiring extra space. The blonde waitress , said that they had a reservation for a big party coming in after us & couldn't give us the bigger table ( which would have fit 5 people comfortably, not glued to the wall); however the brunette waitress checked & said there were no other reservations so we were able to get the big table; great.
Once we were seated, the elder gentleman came over to explain to us briefly the menu & asked what we'd want for appetizers ( we ordered each momo except the shrimp ) to try & then he said he would go prepare them.
Waited another 20 mins since it seemed that our waitress ( blonde) didn't want to help us but came & took our order. I want to make note that she did not check on us once during the whole service to ask if the food was good or if we needed anything else; instead her amazing colleagues did.
Food :
Momos: were all very good, personally I wasn't a fan of the cheese one since it was sweet but still very good
Churu Soup- probably the most underwhelming experience, the blue cheese was there & lamb but it was completely unseasoned no matter how much I mixed it. I then decided to drink from the bowl directly to notice towards the end that all the spices were at the bottom but not mixed into the soup
Sha-Kat-Sta- the best & most flavourful dish out of the whole evening, would recommend
Vegetarian Curry- flavour was very bland & we asked for spicy but was given mild, the brunette waitress was kind enough to get us extra hot chili to mix into it .
Timo- very interesting texture & flavour , tastes really good when you dip into the curries , would recommend
Naan- so a lot of reviews on Google & yelp said that it was Costco brand naan, however we checked it & can tell that it was home made, a bit too charred but good
Steamed rice - opt out if you can, very inconsistent with the two bowls that we've received
Chow mein: the birthday girl was really disappointed. My dad made sure to ask for extra crispy noodles, however as you can see in the pictures , not a single crispy noodle in sight. We told my mom we can ask to send back to the kitchen to have it fixed , however it was nearly impossible to even get our waitress attention ( the blonde one) to do that so we just ate it.
There are a few event dishes to try, but the service is not worth it as a sit down experience, which is disappointing considering you have the Spanish Club, Sabor Latino & Darlings surrounding that area.
To the waitress, I've done food service before as mentioned in a few of my other reviews, but you definitely need to smile more & put more effort , we all are going through it but please don't let it reflect in your job to future clients .
