Simply in love ❤? The food was amazing & the cocktails were delicious. Huge thank you to Amber, our server, & to Chami (hopefully I got the bartender's name right if not, blame the cocktails 😅) for the wonderful service!
The taste & creativity of the food is rather good. The very overrated & underdelivered tapas format; its small quantities & asymmetrical format tonforce consumers into buying more, makes this experience highly unpleasant. Nikkei has an opportunity to go against that trend with a good product but instead choose to master its negative aspect.
I do not recommend this place.
Service for the visit was abisimal, factoring in the hire of uninterested summer staff but asking for a high rating restaurant experience. Order was slow, food aervice was slow, drink order was slow. A bar that gives itself a ttle of'great cocktail' but doesn't have the products to produce standard drinks is a bit difficult to understand.
Ambiance was mediocre with a generic playlist of'best of the 2000s' playing on loop indoors, not a care in the world.
Totalling 80$ per person for 2 slow drinks & 3 forgettable tapas is frustrating & laughable.
The whole staff were incredible! We had issues picking what to get because everything looked so good & Chani picked some options for us that were just fantastic. 10/10 will be coming back!
Everything about Nikkei was very pleasant - the concept of mixing Peruvian & Japanese cuisine immediately caught my attention. We went for the tasting menu, which includes smaller versions of some of the house specialties. At $63, I think it's a fair price, considering it's more of a special experience than something you'd do every week.
The highlights for me were the filet mignon & eel appetizers - a real explosion of flavors. The ceviche was delicious, although fairly traditional, with a nice little twist from the crunchy corn. The beef sandwiches tasted a bit like a simple burger, nothing too memorable.
The fish was perfectly cooked with an amazing texture & great sides/accompaniments. Same for the meat - super tender, falling apart with the fork.
Dessert was probably the weakest part of the night. The tres leches cake was simple but good. The mousse… honestly, I'm not even sure what flavor it was, but I'd describe it as a bit strange 😅
Overall, I definitely recommend the experience. The atmosphere is dark but cozy, & the service was impeccable, especially from Rebecca.
