Everything about Nikkei was very pleasant - the concept of mixing Peruvian & Japanese cuisine immediately caught my attention. We went for the tasting menu, which includes smaller versions of some of the house specialties. At $63, I think it's a fair price, considering it's more of a special experience than something you'd do every week.
The highlights for me were the filet mignon & eel appetizers - a real explosion of flavors. The ceviche was delicious, although fairly traditional, with a nice little twist from the crunchy corn. The beef sandwiches tasted a bit like a simple burger, nothing too memorable.
The fish was perfectly cooked with an amazing texture & great sides/accompaniments. Same for the meat - super tender, falling apart with the fork.
Dessert was probably the weakest part of the night. The tres leches cake was simple but good. The mousse… honestly, I'm not even sure what flavor it was, but I'd describe it as a bit strange 😅
Overall, I definitely recommend the experience. The atmosphere is dark but cozy, & the service was impeccable, especially from Rebecca.
Visited for the 2nd time last weekend, definitely didn't disappoint. Sat at the bar with Chami, he was very friendly & made tasty cocktails. Got to try one his experimental drinks & it was a hit. The food was incredible, Peruvian & Japanese fusion. The Porchetta stuffed with mushroom was unreal, great portion size, shoutout to Chef Mikey. Won't be my last visit.

Great gem of restaurant in the Plateau. Cozy & very chill atmosphere. Great cocktails, & while the menu is not huge, they obviously know how to create Nikkei (Japanese / Peruvian fusion) dishes full of flavour, freshness & colour. Our host, Facundo, & his crew made some wonderful meal suggestions, & the service was friendly & great. Looking forward to my next visit!
Absolutely loved Nikkei! The Peruvian & Japanese fusion is done so well, everything tasted incredibly fresh & full of flavor. You can really tell the ingredients are high quality.
The cocktail menu is fantastic, with creative & perfectly balanced drinks. Service was amazing, attentive, friendly, & made the whole experience even better.
The intimate vibes, beautiful decor, & open kitchen really elevate the atmosphere. Definitely a spot I'll be coming back to!
What an experience. Sitting down at Nikkei Montréal & letting Chef Daniel take the lead is truly a journey. Each bite somehow tops the previous one-layered, unexpected, & full of bold yet balanced flavors. The Peruvian-Japanese fusion is executed with so much intention & creativity that you can feel the story behind every dish. This isn't just a meal, it's a culinary trip you'll be thinking about long after the last bite. Absolutely worth the experience.
Great service, but the food was underwhelming. In Chirashi, sushi rice had an overly strong sour & ginger flavor, which overpowered the taste of the fish. Also, the sushi rice did not pair well with Lomito. It may be better to serve with jasmine rice or Peruvian rice instead.
