Neotokyo NAKAGIN is widely praised as a stylish and immersive destination that transports diners to a futuristic Tokyo through its unique, high-energy atmosphere and thoughtful interior design. Many guests enjoy the creative, izakaya-style sharing plates, with standout items like the smoky yakisoba, fresh sashimi, and the unexpected flavors of the Ringo dish receiving frequent acclaim. While opinions on portion sizes and pricing vary, the majority of visitors highlight the welcoming and knowledgeable service as a key factor in their positive experience. With its vibrant personality and commitment to quality, the establishment has quickly become a notable addition to the local dining scene, leaving many guests eager to return for another taste of its modern Japanese-inspired menu.
Neotokyo NAKAGIN feels less like simply going out for dinner & more like stepping through a portal into a futuristic Japan.
The whole place has this incredible retro-Tokyo energy - stylish, slightly mysterious, energetic, & full of personality. You can tell that the team cared about every detail, from the interior to the way the food is presented. The concept is inspired by'Japan', particularly the izakaya culture of sharing different dishes while enjoying drinks & good conversation, but it has a very modern Montréal twist.
The food was the real surprise for me. Everything felt thoughtful & full of flavour rather than just trying to look fancy. The yakisoba-style noodles were smoky & packed with umami, the gyoza had that perfect crispy-to-juicy balance, & the sashimi was incredibly fresh. The Ringo was also one of those dishes that makes you stop for a second because the combination is so unexpected - sweet, savoury, spicy & refreshing all at once.
What really stood out, though, was the feeling of the place. The service was warm, knowledgeable & genuinely welcoming, & the atmosphere makes you want to stay longer, order another plate, & discover what else is on the menu.
If you enjoy Japanese food, creative flavours, great design & restaurants that give you an experience beyond the plate, this is definitely worth discovering in Montréal 🇯🇵
Neotokyo Nakagin is exactly the kind of place Montreal needs more of: bold, intimate, beautifully executed, & full of personality.
I came during their friends & family night, & honestly, it already feels like a place with a real point of view. The food is comforting but elevated, nostalgic but fresh. The yakisoba-style noodles were rich, smoky, & packed with umami, topped with dancing bonito flakes that made the whole dish feel alive. The gyoza were perfectly pan-seared, crispy where they needed to be & soft, juicy, & generous inside. The pressed sushi bites were another highlight: torched, flavorful, eel & foie gras beautifully balanced, & seriously addictive.
What makes Neotokyo Nakagin special is that it does not feel like a copy-paste Japanese concept. It has soul. It has edge. It has that Tokyo-after-dark energy, but with warmth & attention to detail.
Service was welcoming, the vibe was cool without trying too hard, & the food made me want to order everything twice'we actually did lol'
For a new restaurant, the level is already impressive. Huge potential here & a strong new addition to the city. Go now before everyone finds out.
Not impressed, 13$ Asahi draft is bordeline overpriced, it's tapas style japanese & cold small plate for 15-30$ is exagerated. We basically pay for their new decor. I won't return unfurtanately & prefer the downtown location with ramen.
Nouveau restaurant trop stylé! Excellente nourriture, produits frais, service impeccable. Notre serveuse Fanny était super attentionnée & sa description du menu & des plats était impressionnante pour une ouverture aussi récente.
