Overall we had an okay experience there. The fois gras parfait was good. We didn't feel it was heavy. Bone marrow & Burgundy snails were greasy. The bouillabaisse was tasty. The scallop was quite tender. We asked for a medium cooked beef rib eye steak & expected it to be tender. It turned out to be tougher than we expected. Also, 10.5oz was huge lol
The drinks we ordered were fine. I liked the pistache. My first time having a cocktail 🍸 with pistachio flavor. Quite interesting. Loved the cute butterfly 🦋 on the ice cube 🧊.View more
We had a wonderful lunch at Monarque & were truly impressed by the entire experience. The service was excellent, every staff member was friendly, attentive, & constantly smiling, which made us feel so welcomed.
Both the cocktails & mocktails were well-crafted & reasonably priced, adding a refreshing touch to our meal. The food was absolutely fantastic & surprisingly affordable compared to similar fine dining spots in Toronto. My top favorite was the bone marrow, only $24 for a huge portion & packed with flavour. A must-try!
Highly recommend Monarque for anyone visiting Montreal. We'll definitely be back again in the future!View more
I'd say the ratings for this restaurant are a bit overhyped. While the overall quality is solid, it's not necessarily a must-visit spot.
That said, a few dishes stood out:
• The bone marrow with Burgundy snails was a great fusion - the richness of the marrow paired beautifully with the wine-infused snails.
• The fish & seafood bouillabaisse was surprisingly light & fresh - not salty at all, with a sweet, almost pumpkin-like orange broth. The mix of scallops, shrimp, & fish made it quite hearty & well-balanced.
• The morel mushrooms with asparagus also offered a fresh & flavorful combination.
Good food overall, but not quite as unforgettable as the ratings might suggest.View more
Amazing! Best oysters & lobster of my life! I didn't care for the escargot paired with the bone marrow. I think my personal preference is the more traditional preparation. But this is fantastic restaurant!View more
(Late review, we went in Feb 2025.)
We did not expect to like this restaurant as much as we did! It's our new'coup de coeur'. Booked a table online for the bar section (brasserie), which was surprisingly easy.
Everything was delicious & the service was efficient. The cocktails were great, creative, & perfectly adapted to the dishes. The bone marrow dish is a must, with the richness of the marrow perfectly balanced by the acidity of the red wine jus, & the crunchiness of the toast underneath. I'm still dreaming about that dish! The pepper sauce of the pork chops was fantastic, a nice Asian twist to its classical version. Bouillabaisse was very good, if one likes this type of fish stew. The seafood inside was plentiful. The rouille served on toast was a tasty accompaniment. Highly recommend their tea-flavored crème brûlée. The pistachio cake was good, but not a standout.
Overall, we were very impressed by this restaurant's food pairing. The portions were also generous, & the price fair, for such a restaurant. It's on our favorites list now!View more
This was one of the best restaurants I have ever been to in Montreal. It makes complete sense why it was one of the top restaurants in Canada (#17). Service was top tier & the atmosphere was a vibe. The food was absolutely incredible & I had the best time eating here. I can't say enough good things about all of the dishes. Underrated dish of the night was the morel mushrooms, asparagus & fiddleheads. They were cooked to perfection. The bone marrow & snails were chefs kiss. All of the mains were to die for & you can't go wrong with choosing any of them. The desserts were wonderful. The passion fruit pavlova was the perfect combination of tartness from the passion fruit & the airy sweetness of the meringue. The rice pudding was really sweet but the flavour combo was great. The maple crème brûlée was a standout with the maple flavours. Overall I had an amazing experience with the food, service & atmosphere. Highly highly recommend!View more
We were really looking forward to our dinner at Monarque after glowing recommendations from friends who had lived in Montreal. We booked the Brasserie months in advance during a conference trip-but sadly, the experience didn't live up to expectations.
The Brasserie was only half full, yet service was slow & inattentive. Our server, while polite, barely engaged with us & seemed more focused on older or more formally dressed guests. It took 45 minutes just to place our order, & no one asked if we wanted drinks.
We ordered gougères (delicious), olives, & croquettes to start-followed by excellent appetizers (bone marrow with snails, & octopus). Mains were beautifully plated but uneven: the duck confit was overly salty & unbalanced, though the ribeye & halibut were solid.
The worst part? A fellow diner changed their toddler in plain view of the room-& no staff intervened. It felt like Brasserie guests weren't treated with the same care as those in the Salle à Manger, which seemed much livelier.
We still tipped well, but didn't feel the service earned it. Disappointed overall-we won't be returning.View more
I had a wonderful birthday dinner at Monarque. The steak tartare may be the best I've had, & the bone marrow was very unique & flavorful. The jus for the duck was a bit on the salty side, but pretty much everything was wonderful. The servers also gave me some little desserts & a candle!View more
Had dinner at Monarque while visiting Montreal since it's ranked the #1 restaurant in the city & made Canada's Top 100 list. The vibe was great-elegant but not stuffy-& the service was super attentive. The food is classic French, really well done. Highly recommend the bone marrow escargot & foie gras-both were rich, flavorful, & absolutely delicious. If you're looking for a solid French dining experience, this place is definitely worth checking out!View more
This was our first visit to Monarque, & it certainly won't be my last! From the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional. They even offered to take our coats, which was such a thoughtful touch. For starters, we had the bone marrow with Burgundy snails & the grilled octopus-both were beautifully presented & absolutely delicious. For our mains, we tried the fish & seafood bouillabaisse & the special braised rabbit thigh, which were equally impressive. To pair with the meal, we ordered the Goa & Pomchata mocktails, & they were just as amazing as the food! The staff were incredibly patient & gave us plenty of time to make our choices, creating a relaxed & welcoming atmosphere. This place is perfect for a date night-I would highly recommend it to any couple looking for a memorable dining experience. I'm already looking forward to returning & trying more dishes from their menu!View more
I went on a Friday night, great service & they were accommodating as we were late for our reservation. As for the food, the appetizers were the standouts. The bone marrow dish is a must & was the best dish of the night. We also ordered the octopus which was very tender but a little too smoky. For the mains, the Bouillabaisse was a tad fishy for my taste however the seafood was fresh & perfectly cooked. The rabbit, was not on the regular menu but it was very moist & perfectly seasoned. Great quality-price & portions were very fair. Would definitely go back to try more of their dishes!View more
Wow ! Beautiful place & the food is soooo good !! I definitely recommend you to get the bone marrow & octopus for your entree & for dessert the pavlova was delicious!View more
Food is not too bad. Very busy, beautifully decorated. Duck is quite chewy 😅 Overall experience is good. I would recommend the bone marrow 👍View more
This French restaurant is definitely worth a mention. You may have seen some negative reviews online before you came, but you won't know how good it is until you try it yourself. I would definitely choose to have dinner here again when I visit Montreal next time. The following dishes are worth trying, especially foie gras & duck legs. Bone marrow, Burgundy snails,Foie gras parfait,Duck confit. I'll want to try the lamb shoulder next time I come here.View more
My partner & I drove two hours from Ottawa to Montreal because I wanted him to try Monarque for his birthday. I've been here before, a couple of years ago, & had a wonderful experience so I was excited for him to try it - but unfortunately, our experience tonight was less than satisfactory & left me wondering how such an amazing place went ... sorta downhill.. let me start off my saying the majority of the food was good. We ordered the bone marrow & octopus to start, & the lamb rump & butcher steak for our mains. The bone marrow was melt in your mouth delicious & the octopus was just as great as I remembered. The lamb was also so flavourful & cooked to perfection. However, the steak was tough & not cooked to our order - we asked for medium & it was RARE. Not a big deal to us because my boyfriend still enjoys it rare. Our issues lied mainly with our server. From the moment we sat down & ordered drinks to the moment we received the cheque, he seemed miffed & like he couldn't be bothered to answer our questions or assist us with the menu & gave us attitude the entire time. My partner ordered a Diet Coke which was completely flat & tasted watered down, & we let our server know that we thought the fountain was out of syrup. He argued with us about it right then & there & told told us that it wasn't possible, he then walked away & asked the bartender about it & came back & condescendingly told us that it can't be possible it's flat since it came from a can & proceeded to argue with us back & forth trying to convince us of what WE tasted. We then asked him if he could just please just bring us the can & we can pour it ourselves. He gave us both a look of disgust & said "uh ok" with attitude & walked away - as if we just made a seemingly wild request. We were both so taken aback at that first interaction after only being there for a few minutes that this server was: a) trying to gaslight us into telling us what WE tasted instead of just apologizing & bringing the damn can of Coke - & b) acting as if we were bothering HIM when it's his job! ... the can of Coke was infinitely better than the original glass which makes us believe the "can" he "just opened" was already open & flat from the previous night. Our other issue was when we were trying to ask him questions about the menu, because I was trying to decide between two dishes, he was visibly annoyed & offered no help & just reiterated what I could already see listed on the menu... again, very condescending & what I would expect from a teenager who works at a fast food place NOT a 5 star restaurant. Also, when my boyfriend ordered the steak the server asked "medium-rare?" We asked for medium & he seems visibly bothered again by us saying that then just said "ok" very short & walked away. The fries were also overly salty. My partner & I both have extensive experience in the restaurant industry & fine dining & the lack of manners & quality from our server really put a damper on our whole evening & experience & took away from our overall enjoyment of the meal. It's sad that we got better quality of service from the bus boys & host that paid more attention & interacted with us or acknowledged our "thank yous" AT THE VERY LEAST. So from our experience tonight, 3/4 dishes were great, but our experience with our server left us feeling both so terrible, disrespected & unwelcome we just wanted to finish our meals quickly & skip dessert & leave asap. The server also failed to acknowledge me a few times & only directly asked my boyfriend how his meal was. Do yourself a favour & go somewhere else - for these prices, find a better place with better service where the entire staff works as a team & offers the same level of quality service across the board, who values their patrons. While the busboys & host were very friendly that one server ruined our entire outlook on this restaurant indefinitely.View more
Their appetizers were amazing, innovative, both the bone marrow & octopus were superb .. so good .. their main entrees though were not as good. Lobster was very good but the duck confit & lamb were so so ..View more
Upscale restaurant in the older part of Montreal. The hostess was very welcoming & accommodating we had a reservation for 8pm which we were able to move forward to 7pm. We really appreciated the flexibility after a long day at the Montreal Grand Prix. We had seats at the bar which worked well for us. The bar staff were friendly & it was fun watching them work. The stand out dish for us was the Bone Marrow appetizer. The only improvement would be to add an extra slice of toast because there was too much bone marrow for just one slice. Entrees were solid at a price I'd expect for a higher end restaurant. Highly recommend the passion fruit pavlova for dessert. It was the right balance of sweet & tart in a huge slice.View more
Very nice place, The food is well prepared & cooked especially the bone marrow with snails. The platter is very good indeed as well. Everything is well done except the Halibut I have, which is not as fresh as I imagine. I like seafood & I am quite picky at this price range. Don't get me wrong, the dish was quite nice but simply not up there yet, I am sure you can do better. Otherwise, it was a very nice time dining at Monarque with nice staff.View more
We made reservations here for our anniversary dinner & it did not disappoint! We sat at the bar (highly recommend!) & really enjoyed our dining experience from start to end. Staff were amazing, friendly & was evident they really enjoyed their environment. Service was prompt & attentive. Loved the vibe & atmosphere of the restaurant. Last but not least, the food. Incredible dishes all around. We ordered oysters, bone marrow, pear & prosciutto salad, steak & braised veal cheek. Every single dish blew us out of the water. Finished with their chocolate cake that was also a hit. Highly recommend. Thank you for a lovely evening!View more
This has easily become one of my favourite restaurants in Montreal. They have 2 sections which offer different menus: the brasserie with an ala carte menu & salle a manger that's a table d'hôte. I chose the brasserie as I wanted to try the bone marrow snails. It was a little greasy, which is to be expected, but overall it was delicious! The duck confit was also perfectly crispy & cooked well. Service was a bit slow but attentive otherwise. It gets really loud in the brasserie during peak business hours, so if you want somewhere quieter, consider the salle a manger.View more
Went & had apps & dessert for a date - excellent energy, food, & service Delightful bone marrow with escargo. Delicious squid. Delectable chocolate cake. Excellent service in both french & english.View more
Wow - what a gem. I went here while in Montreal for a conference, together with my wife. I booked a reservation for a Friday evening a few weeks before & was able to get a 630 tim. We ate in the brasserie. I read some other reviews commenting the servers seemed a bit snobby - we did NOT notice this at all. Everyone there was so friendly, with multiple people checking on us throughout the meal to see how they could help or serve us. For reference, we are Anglophone, in our 40-50s, & not cool/chic in anyway but were treated with class & like royalty. All my dishes were memorable - I can still remember the tastes : the bone marrow appetizer, the dry aged rib eye, & the eclair of the day (was maple pecan). My wife ordered the gnocchi appetizer & Duck confit main & loved them both as well. I saw a combination of people dressed more casually (people coming from work) & those more formally (e.g. on dates). I can see this being suitable for both types of outings. For a combination of its vibe, service & quality of food, I can't wait to return. Part of me wishes I lived in Montreal so I could frequent this exquisite restaurant more frequently!View more
Monarque is another Top 100 Canada restaurant in Montreal. After a disappointment in another Top 100 Canada restaurant, I am a bit worry at the beginning. This time I ordered Bone marrow with snails, seafood boulliabassie, & lamb. The bone marrow blows my mind, one of the best I've ever had. The seafood boulloabassie & lamb are very delicious. Price is good, but portion is a bit to the smaller side. The chocolate & coconut layer cake is basically a chocolate cake, nothing too special. Overall I am satisfied with the dinner tonight & will be back for duck confit & ribeye.View more
This was my first time experiencing Monarque & I will certainly be going again.
As soon as you enter the decor & ambiance are fantastic, you can choose to eat at the brasserie or main restaurant & make sure to look up both as the menu varies.
The wait staff is attentive making sure our glasses are promptly filled (water & wine) & the table is tidy.
Our waiter was very helpful in describing the dishes & allowing us to make choices based on in depth descriptions, he was spot on !
We started with two cocktails, the Monarque & pistache. Both were perfectly balanced & although the ingredients might sound strange they were both delicious!
The bone marrow is fantastic served with escargots & a rich & flavorful reduction.
The tartare was perfectly executed with waffle fries & endives.
The bouillabaisse was beautifully filled with various seafood & a fantastic broth.
The veal sirloin was perfectly cooked & seasoned served on top of a ratatouille, one cannot ask for a better dish !
The waiter was also excellent at suggesting excellent wine pairings with each of our courses.
A definite must if you want a great overall dining experience.View more

Stunning interior & great ambience. Spacious. Great food but ok service.
Everything we had was great but definitely on the salty side. Everything was salty but tasty.
Bone marrow & escargots was great & the gnocchi was delicious. Creamy & good mushroom sauce.
Great dry aged steak. Very strong meat flavour. Seafood dish was also good.
The servers kept asking if we were done while we were chatting & clearly eating. That was unpleasant. The rest was great.View more
